We just got back from vacation in Norfolk, Virginia (a working vacation, helping family get ready to move back to Georgia), and I was just wondering what everyone else either has done or will do this summer to escape the routine of everday life.

Honestly because we'll be having the baby in the next like 10 days... we sadly wont get to do much vacationing. I think the best we'll be able to do is go to Ocean City MD for an afternoon when my boyfriends mom goes there for her vacation, me and my boyfriend went there last summer for both of our birthdays and had a blast so hopefully we'll be able to go for at least just alittle while.

Well for the time being I have a little job working in a small clothes store, but in July I'll be going to Egypt with my friend and her family for two weeks. I can't wait, we've just left school so it's a nice end of school thing, we have nothing to worry about so we can just relax and enjoy our holiday 😀

Well, since I already moved to Belgium this year I don't really feel the need to go on vacation. Plus, things are a little tight, money-wise, around here anyway. So no vacation for little Kristine.

I'm going to Australia in two weeks with a group of friends. I'll be there about 3 weeks I think. It's the first holiday I will have had in 5 years! I can't wait! Then in September I'll be moving to Massachusetts for a semester, also cannot wait for that! Yeah but they're my summer plans🙂

Well jealous...I'd love to visit the Antipodes :)

I've always dreamed about visiting Australia too:)
Even though I'm at the age where I dread the inevitable family vacation, we're either going to Seattle or Boston. Thankfully, we're not going outside of the country (our exotic vacations are usually really long, and after about a week, I feel like jumping off of the roof of the hotel.)

You still go on vaccation with your parents? Wow thats... impressive or something. A week? You must go along with your parents way better than I did at that age. And lets not forget the "no escape from lil sis"-situation.

I never got that dread due to the fact I never had a 'family vacation'. I feel jipped! Haha

I know how you feel! Except for me, it's the exact same horror fest each year. But this year they've told me I don't have to go, yay!
We just got back from a long weekend in Yosemite. It was great! We hiked a trail in which we got to see a bunch of giant sequoia trees, hiked a couple of trails in which we got to see a couple of waterfalls, and took some great scenery pictures that we are considering blowing up and using as artwork for our barren walls. The pictures of us didn't turn out so well. My hubby showed me what he claimed was the best picture of us. We were largely obscured by shadows. This was, apparently, the least shadowy of the bunch. My hubby and our friend Juan hiked half-dome while Elena and I toured the gallery, museum, visitor center, Indian village, etc. like un-feminist, unfit wife types. lol. All in all, much fun was had. Also on the plus side: we all remembered to abide by the rules and keep food and food-like substances secure at all times, so there were no run-ins with hungry bears.

As far as future plans go, my parents are talking about possibly coming out for a week or so this summer, but those plans are not firm or fixed. They depend largely upon plane or train fares as well as the ability of everyone to match up our vacation days (which I won't have if I get the job for which I recently applied, since there's a 90 day probationary period).

The hubby and I might also take a couple of day or weekend trips (possibly with the aforementioned Yosemite buddies) in order to go hiking, climbing, camping, caving, rafting, or whatever. Your Palabravampiress used to be quite the adventurer. I've climbed mountains, rappelled off gorges, gone spelunking, climbed rock walls, rafted rivers at flood stage, and brought up the rear on many a hike. Now, the hubby has taken an interest in it, so I'm dusting off my hiking shoes and painfully reintroducing neglected muscles to their former duties. I'm still trying to convince him to let me pull out the old Girl Scout recipe book, though, and make some delish campfire dishes.

Yosemite is pretty stunning...though these days camping is not an option I'd choose ;)

I'm so jealous. The only natural wonders I've seen are Natural Bridge and Natural Tunnel.

Ugh, tell me about it! I tried to convince them to let me stay home, and they sent me on the whole "but you're moving out in a year" guilt trip. At my parents have the decency to get separate rooms for themselves and me and my sister, and I get along with my sister surprisingly well (although sharing a room with her is definite overkill.)

Anyway, now that my rant's over, wow, everyone's going to such cool places!

I´m pretty broke so I don´t have any big plans. A short trip to Gothenburg has already been made and in a couple of weeks I´ll go home. Go back to where it all began that is. All 3 siblings will gather at the old folks house for a couple of nights and then the big one will come back here to visit along with her daughter. But she´s also pretty broke so we´ll most hang out relaxing and not travel all over the place looking for activities. But that´s fine by me. We don´t see each other nearly as much as we should, and usually she just stresses around so this will hopefully be a good change.

Well, what with the newbie in the family, I totally don't see any big Summer vacations on the cards. It's just gonna be a 'Hanging in the Garden' kinda deal. Which is okay- I mean we have a nice garden, nice weather most of the time so I forebear. Haha. We've been looking at a lot of Summer events and places though so we'll be planning one or two day trips, but beyond that we're Vacation-Adjacent this year.

Some of you seem to be going to some really cool places though. I am so jealous of you Hell Mouth- I've always wanted to go to Egypt and I've just never had the opportunity, but that's always been one of my dream destinations. And Kean- all the way to Australia? Lucky you!

Well I'm off to The Wickerman Festival at the end of July, I'll be camping there from Thursday to Sunday. I've never been to this festival before so hopefully it'll be a good laugh having some old-fashioned festival fun haha. It's quite cheap, £75 for the weekend ticket, so that's a plus.

The only holiday that I'm going on this year is to Spain, just to get away somewhere for a week, have some fun. Although that's in October cos I can't handle going to Spain in the middle of summer. Well too hot for me!

The Wickerman Festival? Be careful they don't burn you- I saw that movie!
Since I waited too long to ask for vacation time, I won't be able to take one now till September. By then, the kiddies will be back in school, tho, so I won't actually get to go anywhere. It's cool, tho, I really didn't want to, anyway. I'll just stay home and sleep late all week, that's plenty of vacation for me!

Sleeping late and chilling out...sounds pretty good to me :)

Great idea! Sleeping late is good for the soul
We've already had our main holiday this year...Texas, New Mexico and Arizona in the spring (featuring BBTX08 🙂)...but I hope to get down home to Warwickshire for at least a long weekend in July or August and we have a holiday booked for early October in Crete...the reason I work is to pay for my holidays 🙂

my husband says that too, he works to pay for holidays lol
Every year for my entire life, my family has gone on the same vacation. To the same place, with the same stuff, during the same week. You have no idea how old that gets. We mixed it up a couple times though... the one year we didn't go was because we went to California for my cousin's wedding. Last year, we also went to Ireland, which was another hellish nightmare (because of my parents--the country was wonderful!).

This year, though, since I'll have a lot of packing to do for moving to the dorms, they've told me I can stay home! Yippeeeeeeee! And the vacation is usually a family affair, but one sister will be very pregnant by then and the other will be too busy with her plants. So it'll just be my parents. I'm wondering if they'll both make it back alive...

So the only thing that can qualify as a vacation for me this year is my orientation, which is later this week. I'm just going to stay here and work a lot. Maybe I'll go into Boston with a few friends for a day or something.

In roughly two months I'll be in South Africa.

I have some "family" there. More precisely I have family that has family there. My two cousins, haven't seen their kids for several years...

I'm sure there will be tears, hugs, and lots of introductions.

well as soon as American Idol posts there audition cities and dates my sister and I will be gearing up to take my best friend Mike to audition. We are actually in the process of trying to raise some money to send him from local supporters....

I havent registered his website yet out of a sub-domain...but I created one for those of you that want to learn about the guy I would drop everything for to help him achieve his dream of being a preformer. I REALLY believe in him...anyhow the website is Mikes Our Idol! |

other than that we dont have much plans...we will probally take the kids to DC to visit the animals at the National Zoo...we might go to the beach for a day...but nothing that would really take us a significant time to travel too...

we also have Busch Gardens season passes so we will make good use of those I am sure....

other than that no travel for me.

Good luck to Mike. I had a cousin who made it to L.A. last year. She was cut almost as soon as she got here, but whatever. :-) I hope Mike will do better!
