Summoning the Irish!

Honestly I'm Half Irish and Half Polish lol and PROUD OF IT! lol though sadly this St Patty's day i'll be the sober pregnant one lol which is unusual but hey what the hell i like to try new things lol

well, i did get off for st patty's in high school because we were a catholic school. Most catholic school around here either choose to get off st pattys or st josephs.

But now, nope, public college, no getting off. which sucks. id like to have tuesday off so i can go drinking! but apparently everyone celebrated last night since its unfortunately on a monday.
 
hmmm, i wonder have all the irish vanished and if im the only one left, il see anyhow by posting, for the record im a dublin gal born and rest in ireland, semi fluent gaelic but im a traitor as ive been living in argentina the last yr hehe, im going home shortly though, i consider myself partly latin american now cause my missus is an argentinian :love14:

Don't worry we Paddys are still here in force. I'm a Limerick lady myself but I'm spending a semester in the States. Great to see more Irish on BB! Fà¡ilte🙂

what part of the states u in currently? im learning spanish nowdays so while i do that my gaelic seems to have been pushed from my brain, im sure it will hit me again once i travel air lingus home lol

LOL...I'm in a little town 20 miles outside of Boston. It's part of my study abroad for U.L. Are you in college yourself? What brought you to Argentina?

oooh Irish over here, well 2nd generation, so i've never actually been to the emerald isle, but I want to, there's a town named after my family apparently, which is kinda fun 😀

Truly, I was supposed to go there in early 08, but... didnt work out. I´m thinking about some vacation now, but here everything is so expensive... need real money to travel from here to there >.<

Please, teach me gaelic! SO chic!
 
hehe, the irish have a fanclub lol, ::you know the trick to been irish is a strong sense of humour and a touch of charm, u have that and we will adopt all you as one of our own, were gonna have to teach u a lil bit of gaelic though, i may leave the lessons to Keanoite as shes a limerick lass and down there they speak gaelic better than a dub like me :graduate:

Do you really learn it there? Or is something just for "fun" and culture?
I know there are some cities and stuff that speak the language but... I don´t get the signs on both languages >.< What are they for?

Totally missed this question...sorry hun.

We learn Irish from the age of 4 or 5 until 17 or 18 depending when you start and finish school. Considering we study it for so long we really should be fluent, sadly that is rarely the case.

Ireland is technically a dual language country, that's why all our signs-traffic, street signs, government buildings, schools etc-are in both Irish and English.

There are sections of the country where Irish is the only language spoken, they are called Gealtechts, the signs in these areas are only in Irish. Very confusing for tourists.lol
