Sunnydale CA's exact location

I'm just wondering, did anybody on these boards know that there is an actual town in California called Sunnyvale?

Like Lilah says when referring to Sunnydale in AtS S4E22 - "Home", it's just "up the coast" from Los Angeles. Sunnyvale is located about 5 hours north of Los Angeles.

I'm curious, did Joss actually base Sunnydale on Sunnyvale, and if so, does Sunnydale's location correspond to that of Sunnyvale?
Or am I just reading into this far too much? Lol

The desert plays a bigger part in later season suggesting a little further north towards pismo.

As for references to real locations, Sunnydale is entire fictional.

Actually, I always assumed Sunnydale was south of LA. I guess I was pretty wrong, huh?

I always had the same assumption. Maybe references of driving "up" to L.A. were made? Anyway, I know for a fact that they've said often they live in "Southern California" and therefore couldn't live anywhere near the actual location of Sunnyvale.

Well where they filmed parts of it is in Torrance, which is South, so that might be why you thought of it as South of LA. 🙂
