Why exactly did Dawn attend Sunnydale High? Was this ever addressed? In Lessons, Buffy says:
My sister's about to go to the same high school that tried to kill me for three years. I can't change districts, I can't afford private school, and I can't begin to prepare for what could possibly come out of there.
Where did she (and everyone else) go for a full year before this? : pconfuse
Someone please help with all the confusion.

Maybe there was some re-zoning when the school was rebuilt. And wasnt Dawn in middle school before that? Im not exactly sure how the schools work in America but I thought middle school was seperate to high school.

Yeah I wasn't really sure either. I assumed she was in middle school or something. But I just rewatched season 6 and she tells her vampire crush-guy in All The Way that she's a freshman. Hence my confusion.

Re-zoning sounds logical though!

Of course rezoning sounds logical.

In the real world when a school is closed for a long time for whatever reason the students are moved to the next closest school to recieve the required education.

Sometimes it amazes me what questions are actually asked on Buffy Boards.

I assumed she was lying then so the guy wouldnt nick off if he found out her real age. But I duno what ages go into what grades in America, she was 15 in season 6 which would make her in year 10 or 11 here.

Actually kiddies when she went out with the vamp dude she was a freshman and then they moved her back to sunnydale high once it was built....

Dawn could have been in a private school until Season 7 (Hank might have paid for it) but more likely she had always attended Sunnydale High School, which had relocated temporarily while funds were being raised and the new campus was being prepared. With Mayor Wilkins gone it would have probably taken at least two years just to have the new administration settled in, insurance claims settled, funds raised, the old buildings cleared away, and the new ones built. Buffy's reference to the "same high school" that had tried to kill her probably only meant the actual location, directly over the hellmouth.

Huh, good question. She was defiantly in High school in season 6, because in All The Way she says that she's a freshman (You know, the weird little conversation about rungs of a ladder and stuff? 😉), but I don't think where she went for the first year was ever something that was discussed. Maybe some school outside of Sunnydale? Or an extra few grades added on to the middle school for the high school students? We'll never know.

Because it's something that's never come up before. And, that's all for my reasons. 😉

Its not come up because its pointless.

We know she went to school, thats the end of the conversation.

Next we'll be discussing how on earth Willows hair changed shape between certain episodes/seasons.

Some people really do need to be spoon fed absolutely everything.

I guess you're right. It's just one of those things that you read and then you keep coming up with weird explanations. I didn't say it was important, I just said good question...'Cause it's something to think about. Okay, something to think about if like me you have no life.

I don't get 'weird' explanations, just common sense explanations.

I don't even see how its something to think about.

I just have too many thoughts and too much free time. ;)
Willow used to enjoy teaching without getting paid, and since she lived with them without paying rent for so long, Buffy should have just forced Willow to teach Dawn. I guess at the time Sunnydale High was getting rebuilt though, Willow was recovering from going insane in England with Giles.
