Hello everybody... not sure this is the right place to post a new thread, but this seems to be where all the potential spin-off talk is going on!

My question is simple - why does there have to be a spin-off?

Is it not possible to go into a new season without a Slayer? After all, Buffy is only part of a bigger picture which involves Sunnydale, the Hellmouth and alot of established characters and themes. Granted, Buffy is the central character to all this, but surely a shift in dynamics to expand and centralise on a larger cast of main characters - established or new - would keep the whole mythos and history of Buffy continuing on. I believe it possible for a show to continue and thrive with the loss of a central character.

Of course, the show's title might have to change (although UK members will be aware of a show called 'Taggart' where the title character died some years back, but the show still goes on in his name). Maybe simply calling it "Sunnydale" would suffice, so it wouldn't technically be a spin-off.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what people have to say on the matter!
(This is my first posting, so be gentle with me!!!)

I personally wouldnt want to see this, Buffy is at a high point at the moment, it would be sad if the show carried on without SMG and went downhill.

Buffy is always obviously not the most powerful thing in Buffyverse...but it's still call BTVS.
y not call Willow the Wicca?

My though exactly, but Joss said that he wants do do something new, not something alike!

Maybe it's just time to let Buffy and all the characters in the buffyverse and all the settings and plots in the bufferverse just die.

They deserve it. Seven great years of excellence... they should all just quit while everything is so great!
