Supergirl has found its Man of Steel!

Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin has been tapped to play the iconic role of Superman on The CW series, EW has learned.

Hoechlin will appear as Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman, in the first two episodes of the new season, visiting his cousin Kara (Melissa Benoist) in National City.

“Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says. “We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

Though this will be the first time that viewers will truly see Superman, his presence has been felt on the show. The Man of Steel has kept up a relationship with his cousin via online correspondence, and even appeared as a child when Kara suffered from the Black Mercy. He also appeared in the final episodes of the season when Non set off the doomsday device Myriad – or at least his boots did.

In addition to his role on Teen Wolf, Hoechlin’s credits include Road To Perdition, Hall Pass, Solstice, and Everybody Wants Some.

Hoechlin joins a long list of actors who have suited up as Superman, including George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill, among others.

The news comes as Supergirl is moving from CBS to The CW, where it will live alongside other Berlanti series Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – all of which will crossover for an epic event slated for December.

Supergirl will return Mondays this fall at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

I haven't watched any of the superhero CW shows despite being a huge comic book fan. Just hard to find the time. I did watch the first few episodes of Supergirl though, and I do think it was probably a smart decision to move it to CW where it has the existing fanbase.

I just saw Tyler Hoechlin in a live script reading for The Blacklist Live, but that's all I've ever seen him in. He seemed like a pretty good actor, and definitely looks like a solid Superman.

I think it'll kind of depend on how he is utilized within the show. Or do you think any appearance of Superman will undermine her agency? I will be sorely disappointed if he only appears to save the day when Kara gets into a tough spot.

Guess it could work as long as his role is very much a supporting part. I just hate the idea that the character cannot exist without the male verison coming along to influence her

I think it would have to be. It's her name above the door, so to speak. But yeah, I do agree, there's little point introducing his character if the only reason he's there is to save her or undermine her in some way.

I think when you have a character as all-powerful as Superman, it's difficult to make him appear 'lesser'.

Have you taken a look at him recently Batman used to wear his Y-fronts on the outside but he doesn't lately. Who else wears their Y-fronts on the outside?
So what is Superman's relationship to Supergirl, as I've said I have no interest in watching that stuff. Personally that Supergirl always appears as a cutie with a good head on her shoulders which makes Superman appear as that creepy old uncle that won't go away.
Keep that dorky Superman out of the Supergirl film, I'd suggest getting better scriptwriters.
