So yeah.. they are doing a Supergirl TV show. Whatever. But they did show the costume and it looks pretty alright.

It could be interesting, from what I have read it's not too much of an origin show, like smallville was, but one where she already know how to control her powers.
 
Isn't this meant to be set in the same universe as 'Arrow' and 'The Flash'?

I'm not entirely certain how you can introduce Spuergirl without touching on her much more famous cousin. Even so I might give this a look, 'The Flash' is sort of a guilty pleasure that I watch sometimes.
 
It seems they wont be in the same verse, this isn't airing on CW like they are either. Yeah I'm uncertain how they will get around not having superman on the show, they would have to reference him at least.

I prefer Arrow over The Flash personally

Didn't they reboot Supergirl in DC Comics at one time so that she was no longer Superman's cousin, or even from Krypton, but instead an android or something? It's in this rather long article

"Supergirl/Matrix." had an entirely different origin that "Supergirl/Kara.' They could do something like that, leaving Lex Luthor out of the story and substituting any scientist or organization as her creator. Or, they could go the "Six Million Dollar Man," route. making her human, but enhanced somehow with super powers. No Superman, Krypton, Kryptonite, Smallville, or any reference to them, making her the only super human in the world.

From what I've read about it she's still going to be Kara, who's hidden her powers from people, but now wants to use them
 
I just realised that in my last post I misspelled Supergirl as 'Spuergirl' , which sounds like a really gross name for a superheroine. Too close to 'Spewer-girl' or something.

I watched Arrow and quickly realised that the writers actually wanted the rights to 'Batman' but couldn't get it, so they made do with Green Arrow instead. They brought in Huntress, the bane ripoffs, Count Vertigo as Scarecrow, and now Rhas al Ghul.
Basically I find that the show takes itself way too seriously and the main guy doesn't bear any real resembelance to the comic book Oliver Queen.

I thought she was an angel or something? First they killed off 'Superwoman' in the Infinite Crisis thing, and then they brought in Supergirl but she wasnt related to Superman...then they rebooted her again as his cousin, and then AGAIN in this new '52' nonsense. Quite frankly I gave up on the whole thing some time ago. 😕
 
In my opinion, they jumped the shark on this when they cast Dean Cain. No one's getting around or past that. I'm not really enthused about this whole idea. I was never a DC girl, at least not when it came to the movies or the characters they decided needed time spent on them. There's no lightheartedness, everything is dark and melodramatic as far as the movies are concerned. The shows - most of them - take a different approach and that's what I'm basing my hopes on when it comes to this, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The costume is designed by the same person who designed the Arrow and The Flash's costumes, but I think they dropped the ball on this. I think they should have turned it a little more practical, which the skirt is just not. There are ways to be feminine in pants.

I like both Arrow and The Flash, but I prefer Arrow. I understand that people could see too much Batman in it, but I think they're trying to change that. They're shifted Oliver from someone who killed indiscriminately and went after the people who pissed him off, uncaring about the people in his life, into a real hero with a real enemy with people he cares about and people he doesn't want to lose.

I was not aware of that (of course I haven't been paying attention) but I see they cast Helen Slater as well.

EIT: Why is the skirt not practical? The CAPE is not practical. I mean really.
 
Cape, skirt, the whole outfit. You ever tried running in over-the-knee boots? They are gonna pinch the backs of her knees something awful. Even walking in them is uncomfortable if they aren't worn over jeans or something.
 
Supergirl dont need to run.. a brisk walk is the equivalent to supersonic speeds. She can briskly walk in those things!
 
Like I said, even walking can cause issues. I certainly wouldn't do it.
 
To me the suit looks kind of dated. Maybe they're were going for classic but I wouldn't want to see a super hero running around in that. It's like they're trying to keep her in the 70's, looks-wise. I agree with Lyri - she should be in pants. I would also lose the boots and the cape. But mostly the skirt.

I'd like to think that this show could be good but... I have no such hopes.
 
I think the outfit is more of a cross between the superman one in man of steel and the classic supergirl outfit
 
I just remember how bad everyone reacted when they tried to put Wonder Woman in pants for her TV show.. it didnt even make a pilot. So, its not surprising she still has the skirt.
 
She can still resemble Supergirl without a skirt - if the skirt is needed SO badly, then ADD pants. Skorts are perfectly on trend right now - hell, the damn Power Rangers did TWENTY YEARS AGO. 
A skort is shorts with a skirt-like front. I have no issue with the length, that isn't where my problem lies. To me, from the picture we've been provided with, this is a skirt. A short skirt, yes, good for movement - but also good for flashing her underwear at any possible moment. She's a superhero, she isn't going to just be innocently walking down the street like the rest of us. There are going to be times when she needs to take care of some bad guy - which then puts more pressure on the editors because no one is going to let Supergirl flash her underwear on TV, especially not if they're planning for this to go out in the same time slot as The Flash and Arrow. There'll be complaints out the wazoo.

Like I said, The Power Rangers managed to add some femininity to their superhero costumes twenty years ago - the Pink Ranger had a short skirt over her Lycra pants. It wouldn't have been difficult to do something similar here.

but it looks like a skort to me. To me it looks long..ish. It doesnt look short.

I don't remember the power ranger outfits being different for the girls to the guys, apart from the colours. The girls in regular clothes often wore shorts under their skirts, but I figured that was as they were doing gymnastics and it was a kids show

I was obsessed with Kimberly when I was a child - spent my a Halloween trying to be her. I don't know if the costume design was kept for the other versions, but I know they had it for as long as Kimberly was the Pink Ranger.
