I'm not current on comic book superheroes and their powers, and I saw this discussion on another forum, and I was just wondering if someone here could help me.

Is Thor supposed to be as strong as Superman now? Back in the 70's, which is the last time that I seriously read any comics, Superman was the strongest being in the DC Universe, capable of actually move planets out of their regular orbit. Thor was one of the strongest characters in the Marvel universe (he and the Hulk were at the top of the list then, with neither one being the unquestionable superior) but was nowhere near that strong. I know that Superman has been weakened over time, but has Thor been made so that much stronger that they are now about on an equal ground?

Ain't Jean Grey the strongest (main) character in the Marvel universe?

I was referring to actual physical strength, not telekinetic energy. Is Jean is now also super strong, or can she just move objects with the power of her mind?

(As I said, I've been completely out of the comics community for over 40 years)

I vote for Jean Grey, but that's only cause she's currently being played by Sophie Turner. 😳

I've always been more into the norse mythology Thor than the comic one. So the comparision has never interested me but based on the height of his powers Superman wins. As for current status I have no idea. Last I heard Thor was female (true?) and what happened to the powers when or after I'm 100% clueless about.

When empowered by the Phoenix Force probably but that isn't a a normal part of her powers.

Yes, the new Thor is a woman (Jane Foster I think). Seems to have pretty much the same powers.

If we're talking just in terms of physical strength I'd probably still give the edge to Superman. Both characters can be wildly inconsistent in terms of feats though.

Jean Grey is one of, if not the most powerful character in the Marvel Universe. I personally don't think Thor is as strong as Superman, I'd probably say Hulk was stronger? Doesn't Hulk beat Thor in terms of strength?

My Thor knowledge is somewhat limited to the MCU though, and it's mainly because he's really really ridiculously good looking. 😎

What were we talking about again? 😀

Back all those decades ago, when I was still reading the Marvel comics, Thor and the Hulk were the two strongest characters in the Marvel universe, but there was never any clear answer as to which was actually the strongest. It should be noted, however, that that was before the Hulk's strength seemed to increase as his rage grew. Since that development, I suppose that the Hulk would be the stronger of the two if given sufficient time and anger to build up to it.
