I borrowed season 1 and 2 from a friend, looking forward in watching them....I have yet to see an episode.
Supernatural; I'm in LOVE. (Spoilers In This Thread!)

I have two episodes left of season one. I honestly didn't like it until the last few episodes, but now I can't stop watching! I'm straight, so no actual preferences based on the looks, lol, but Sam is my favorite! (Okay, I admit, if I were to go gay...)
Aw, man, "Jus in Bello" is probably my favourite Supernatural episode ever. It was just all kinds of epic. Though the only episode I absolutely hate was "Ghostfacers". That was just... ugh. The others range from "okay-ish" to "mindblowingly awesome".
I think S3 has some of the most outstanding episodes of the whole show and could've been my favourite season (well, it was, and then S4 came along) if it wasn't cut short because of the writers' strike. The end was just too rushed but you can't really blame anyone for that. They wrapped it up as good as they could.
I don't want to give out spoilers so I'm marking this as a spoiler just in case but I'm not really giving out anything and only people who've seen "Abandon All Hope" will be able to make sense of it -

The thing I truly find fascinating is how divided the fanbase is on seasons 1 and 2 vs. seasons 4 and 5. S3 is kind of floating in the middle.
I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here but pretty much all the people I've seen who prefer seasons 1 and 2 and think everything went downhill from S4 are those rabid fangirls (you know the kind I'm talking of, amirite?) while the. erm. not crazy kind, I guess, seem to prefer the myth arc of S4 to the standalones of S1 and 2 which were pretty much interchangeable.
I wonder if that is because you actually have to pay attention and follow a plot that's longer than one episode and not just drool over how pwetty Sam and Dean are. I've actually seen girls (it's always girls, sorry to say) who said they watch Supernatural on mute because they can't follow the plot and are just in for the pretty boys. Y'know it's not that complicated 🙄 , especially the earlier seasons.

I agree with what you said about S1/2 vrs the later seasons. I do admit that the boys went through a hell of a time during S3 and 4, and I've loved it every step of the way, but as an Atheist, I can't help but think I'm missing something, or just not getting it, because I just don't care one way or the other. I know there are people out there who have stopped watching because of the theme of S4 and 5, and I just wonder...why? This is a TV show, with fantastic writing, and the best group of actors I've seen since BtVS, it's not supposed to be taken literally. It's entertainment.
And yes, I think the boys are incredibly pretty, but I'd never watch on mute, 'cause then you miss those gorgeous Texan drawls that slip out now and again, lol. 😀

Abandon All Hope is probably the only Supernatural episode that made me actually cry 🙁. But I loved it.
Hmmm the only episodes I didn't like were Hookman, Bugs and Route 666. I think those episodes were truely awful haha.

I don't get the outraged outcries of "How dare they bring religion into my " when religion has been there for, oh, just the entire show. (I assume they were distracted by the pretty.) Okay, it's more omnipresent than before but it's still just a story line. A good one. I follow the show but I'm not a huge fan or anything. I wonder if I'd felt any different if it was about two hot girls instead of two hot guys. 😉 It's interesting to see people loving the first season. The people I've seen talk about the show just like me doesn't really get into it until somewhere in season 2. More than once people say they are gonna give up and can't understand why people love the show so much. But if they continue to watch they very often get hooked. Personally I like the episodes with a bit of humour in them. And it's nice to see some familiar faces showing up.

Wow, guys, this is so awesome! It's great that everyone on here is so into the show.
I was thinking about posting my comments on each episode as we go along? Like, an ep by ep kind of a thing? That will help me collect my thoughts on the show, attempt to find patterns, collect favorite quotations, etc as I continue. (I'm HUGE nerd, I know, I know...)
It's interesting to me that some people aren't fond of Season 1 - I'm loving it so far. The story is excellent. I love all of the different types of monsters they come across; ghost, loch ness monster thing, demons, etc...it's very entertaining. And most importantly, this season is setting up the relationship dynamic between the two.
And Lyri, as you mentioned, yes it is very "Monster of the Week" but I like that. Lots of other classic horror shows have followed that construction, and it works well. The Twilight Zone, The X-Files and others, at least. It's a good idea to not get too into a complicated arc when a show is still developing a fan base. (This is why, IMO, Dollhouse failed. The show's mythology/backstory is just too complicated!). You skip an ep, you're screwed.
I'm only like 6 episodes into Season 1 but I'm seriously obsessed. Hopefully I won't turn into one of those "rabid" fan girls you speak of (we all know those types) but I must admit, I'm really excited that I've found a show that I'm honestly fully engaged in. I think it might become one of my all-time favorite shows. Nothing will ever transend Buffy for me, but this show is pretty great, I'll admit that. 🙂
Who do I prefer? Well, at this point, I love both the guys. Looks-wise, it's a hard choice, but Jensen is just absolutely gorgeous. Dean is so rugged and brave. I love that. He has a cute subtle sense of humor. It should be illegal to be that attractive!
Sam is really cute too. He's the "smart" one, introspective, quietly brave. I love the two's dynamic. It has a real Angel/Spike-esque quality to it IMO, sans the sexual tension of course! Dean and Sam own the screen when they're together.
I am so glad I discovered this show, you don't even know.

You know, I said this to Kean when we were watching S1 together, but it's so funny for me to go back and see the early eps, and see just how YOUNG Sam looked! Dean hasn't really changed at all throughout the five seasons, but Sam? OH MY! He's so young and skinny in the first season...let me tell you right now, he does NOT stay that way! LMAO, just wait for 'Heart' and 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and 'Sex and Violence'!
I will admit that the only reason I started watching the show was because I was pretty much in love with Alec from Dark Angel, and I was excited to see Jensen Ackles on TV again, as I missed his Smallville stint, but I am now pretty much a complete covert to Team Jared Padalecki, lol. I won't deny the prettiness of Jensen, but he's just not Jared, lol.
And I would be more than happy to discuss the eps with you as you watch, I love going back through all the old eps, and there are some really good ones in the early seasons, before they got really arc heavy.

Yeah, there are only a few eps of SPN (get used to that abbriviation, lol, I use it alot) that really freak me out, 'Bloody Mary' and 'The Benders' being two of them, both of which were in the first season. Lilith scares the pants offa me though, which I find interesting, lol.

Haha I love watching the early episodes again, Sammy looked so much cuter with the bangs, Jared should really have his hair like that again.
And their voices are so high, it makes me laugh to watch one of the season 4 episodes where Jensen's got his batman voice and then go back to the pilot where his voice was just so high ha.

Dean and Sam's dynamic is so interesting! I'm fascinated every time they're on screen together. They're both soooo gorgeous! Dean especially. It should be illegal to be that attractive, seriously. Yet, personality-wise, Sam as my vote as Top Supernatural Boy. The reason I picked up this show in the first place was to see more of Jensen, but Jared sparkles in this way I can't really describe. I have a feeling he'll grow even more on me.
Interesting that both boys are driven to fight evil due to wanting revenge - Sam to find who killed his girlfriend Jessica, and Dean for his missing father and arguably, for his dead mother.
I'm struck by how genuinely scary this show actually is. It's been a while since a good classically horrific genre show has come along. I love the way it's filmed as well - lots of muted earth tones, and dark colors. The dark tone of the show is perfectly balanced with the sparsely added yet effective subtle humor.
So, Dean's good with kids? Didn't see what one coming. For some reason, I have a feeling he'll continue to surprise me. I love Dean and his ridiculous, overstated bravado. He's the "muscle"; overtly confident, blunt almost to a fault, and driven to his mission. While Sam is quietly smart, introspective, with a calm presence that keeps Dean in check. Yet, Sam's more then willing to lay his life on the line without a moment's notice to save anyone. Both have a weakness for women, yet Dean is far more obvious about his admiration of the prettier ones 🙂
Best scene: Sam saving a naked Andrea from the killer bathtub - intense! Runner up - Andrea/Dean KISS! Cute stuff.

Plot Summary: A mysterious plane crash leaves Dean and Sam wondering what might have caused the disturbance. When it is revealed that the source was a possessed man, the two boys perform an exorcism and save everyone from an untimely death.
Best line: Dean: "Middle class dentist with an ulcer isn't exactly evil personified."
Comments/Questions:
Boy do these boys clean up nicely! The suit look works for them. Watching these two interact together is a real treat. They have a sort of Angel/Spike-esque dynamic - sans the sexual tension, course!
Dean gets the funniest looks on his face!
How do the boys fund their escapades in fighting evil? How do they afford gas for Dean's gas-guzzling car? I know it was mentioned earlier that Dean often signs up for fake credit cards, but he got busted for that so....and I know he plays poker as well, but come on! Where are they getting all this cash to bribe random people with!?...You think Dean is pimping himself out? 😉
Quirks: Dean has a fear of flying! Cute. And he loves metal! Even cuter.
Best scene: Dean: "Cristo." Enough said. 😉
Sam's "We got work to do" reminds me so much of Angel's "Let's go to work."

Runner-up: Dean [To Sam]: Smash anything that moves!"
Comments/Questions:
Firstly, AWESOME episode. 10/10. Very scary and well-executed. Great special effects. In this story, one only need chant "Bloody Mary" three times in order to summon her. When I was a kid, we always thought we had to say it five times. Huh.

I can't help but think that they should start charging for fighting evil and saving people's lives. Where's a Cordelia when you need one? 🙂

Dean resents Sam for going off to college?
How will Dean deal with the psychological repercussions of killing himself? That's got to mess with your head. He acts like it's not a big deal, but I wonder if it might pop up later.
Best scene: The shape-shifting scene with Dean. WOW! AWESOME!

As much as I love Dean with his rugged God-given good looks and cute boyish charm, he kind of comes off as a womanizing sexist a lot of the time. Anyone else think this? He's always making sexual comments about girls. It irritates me.

Sam's secret: Wow, Sam had dreams about Jessica BEFORE she died? Wow. Didn't see that coming.
I can't help but think that they should start charging for fighting evil and saving people's lives. Where's a Cordelia when you need one? 🙂

Dean resents Sam for going off to college?
How will Dean deal with the psychological repercussions of killing himself? That's got to mess with your head. He acts like it's not a big deal, but I wonder if it might pop up later.
Best scene: The shape-shifting scene with Dean. WOW! AWESOME!

Plot Summary: Dean and Sam learn that the legend of Hookman is alive and kicking when a murder in small town Iowa town proves the truth. The boys must race to kill the murderer, and save the daughter of a minister, before anyone else dies.
Comments/Questions:
As much as I love Dean with his rugged God-given good looks and cute boyish charm, he kind of comes off as a womanizing sexist a lot of the time. Anyone else think this? He's always making sexual comments about girls. It irritates me.
