Supernatural Season 6 Finale (Spoilers!!!!)

Anyway, what do you guys think will happen next season? Apparently it's going to have a Butch and Sundance sort of theme, whatever that means.

The cast weren't giving much away a few weeks ago, but then that's nothing new. Mark Sheppard earns his paycheck teasing fans with what shows he's going to appear in next season. (He confirmed that he'll be in Leverage S4, but that's it as far as I can remember.) The Butch and Sundance thing reminded me of something Jensen said when he was asked how Supernatural should end. He said the only ending he can think of that he'd be happy with would be the boys going Butch and Sundance or Thelma and Louise style. Which I can understand. I said during S4 that the only ending I can see for these characters is for them to die, go out in a blaze of glory. But, then again, I said that for Buffy and Angel, so what do I know, lol.

I think next season will be about trying to rid Cas of the souls he swallowed. It's all that power that's giving him his God-complex. I honestly don't think he is God. I think he THINKS he's God. But, as far as we know, God is alive and well, just off enjoying a ski vacation somewhere. Ooh, 'Dogma' flashbacks, lol. I love that movie.

Until someone tells me otherwise, I will continue to believe that Chuck is God. Whether he's just a vessel like Jimmy, Dean and Sam, and God just pops in and out, well, that's yet to be decided, but I'll continue with that belief going into S7.

And that is the lovely thing about interpretation: you are free to believe whatever you want until something solid comes out and says otherwise. 😀 (And some people refuse to change their interpretation even then. 😉)

Although, now that you mention it, I can see that happening, and Jared was asked that question too last weekend. He said it was a possibility, lol.

Jared also said he'd be interested in a S8 if it was offered, but he's concentrating on S7 for now.

The idea of Misha Collins not being a regular next season intrigues me. Does that mean he's gonna be taken down early in the season and either killed or sent to some sort of heavenly prison? Or will does it mean that the boys are going to be spending the majority of the season hunting for him?

There's a lot of ways it could play out, and the fact that they've decided to pull Misha back is a move I didn't think they'd make. Personally, I can sort of take or leave Cas. I'm not a huge fan, but I have friends who are and they're devastated that Misha won't be a regular next season.

Yes, the spoiler tags thing. Jared said that that theory could be possible in that verse. Like Dean and the Djinn in S3, or Buffy in 'Normal Again'. One of them could be dreaming it in some psych ward somewhere.

Not saying it'll ever happen, 'cause if it does, I will be PISSED. I'm just saying Jared said it was possible.

I think Chuck is God. Maybe. Still a bit shaky, but I think he might be God for two reasons.

1. Is God trying to keep himself hidden? Because if he is then Chuck is a good hiding spot. Obviously Chuck is not...godly or that great of a guy. He acts quite cowardly, drinks a lot, and when the world was going to end, instead of helping out (he couldn't do much but still) he calls some hookers. Dean and Sam would never suspect for a minute that Chuck was God and therefore he would never be discovered. I don't really know if this is what God wanted, to stay hidden, but I just heard it from a source.

2. I don't know how much symbolism is involved in SPN because I have never really cared to look. I don't know if Kripke and Co. use any metaphors or anything, but I noticed something that may be of relevance. In Swan Song before Chuck teleported or whatever he was wearing a white shirt. He was clean. He smiles, he's happy and seems confident. Mostly though, he was wearing white. White having a strong connotation of purity, light, and goodness. I say "goodness" because the good guys always seem to wear white and the bad black (e.g. Buffy-white dress with black leather jacket,good with darkness in her v. The Master- all black suit with long fingernails and a distorted face, classic archetype of a villain) Idk if Eric meant anything by this, but it seems pretty convincing for me.

Chuck narrating 'Swan Song' really confused me at the time, but looking back, it sort of made sense.

He was a tiny bit-character, not huge on the grand scheme of things, nowhere near the level of Bobby, or even Ellen and Jo, so the fact that he was brought in just to do some voice over crap, I was like 'WHAT?!'

But now, thinking about that ep, his narration gives Sam the tools he needs to fight off Lucifer and jump into the cage. Whether it's supposed to play out that way or not, watching it from a detached perspective, Chuck spells out everything Sam needs to take control of himself.

So, does this mean that God's plan all along was for Sam and Dean to beat Lucifer and put him back in the cage? It was Dean who started the whole thing by breaking the first seal, albeit inadvertently, and it was Sam who broke the final seal, was this God's way of them finding redemption for what they did?

The ending of the ep, when we see Chuck all clean and dressed in white, to me says that Chuck is done with the Winchesters and he's moving on to something else. Whatever it was that he thought he had to make the boys do, even if it was for Dean to make up for what he did in hell, he's done with it and the end of S5 was him letting them get on with their lives without him controlling or guiding them.

Whether S7 brings Chuck, or God, back to deal with the mess he left behind, we'll have to wait and see.

Also, I think I need to point out that while Cas and Lucifer seem to have 'specific' vessels they need to possess, Michael and Raphael don't. Whenever Lucifer is possessing that guy, his power starts to break the body down and he says that's because Sam is his true vessel. I'm fairly sure Cas said the same thing about Jimmy, once. Michael was able to possess both John and Adam when Dean turned him down, and Raphael has turned up in at least four different vessels that I can remember.

If Chuck really is/was just a vessel for God, like Raphael, he might have more than one vessel.

ITA with your first paragraph. I don't think I'll change my opinion that Chuck was a prophet and/or a vessel for God in the season finale, even if every person involved with the show confirms otherwise. It's just like the whole "Did Buffy really love Spike?" or "What happened between Buffy and Spike that last night?" debacle. It's open to interpretation. But let's not start a Spuffy argument here. 😀

So I take it you don't believe that's what happened in Lost? I've never watched it, but if that's how it ends, I don't think there's a point. 😀

Yup. That is why I am unsure about it. But Lucifer is still an angel and his name literally translates to, "light-bearer." I think it is a good theory, but we really have no way of knowing if Kripke meant anything by it. So I guess we will just have to wait :/

I was like the biggest Supernatural fan before season 6. This season made me lose interest completely. I didn't even watch the finale. I'll get to it eventually.

I was quite disappointed in this season, too. The arc seemed all over the place--it's Crowley! No, it's the mother thing! No, it's Crowley again!--and the stand-alone episodes were REALLY gimmicky. But the last few episodes felt much more classic Supernatural.

That's part of the reason why I didn't like this season. Too much going on at once. I could barely keep up. A lot of the stand-alone episodes were so Unsupernatural if you get what I mean. I mean freaking fairies? And then the alternate dimension where they play the actors who portray them on the show... I did love that episode though. But you get my point.

I think that episode was only funny/interesting if you knew anything about the behind-the-scenes stuff on the show. Otherwise it was a bunch of inside jokes that would go right over your head.

I dunno, at the time I didn't know they weren't speaking, but I gathered from the episode they were not. I don't think you had to know what was going on behind-the-scenes to find it funny. I still don't know if Padalecki married the Ruby chick "IRL" or not. Don't really care though, didn't stop it from being funny. Don't know if Collins is a buddhist IRL or not, didnt stop me from laughing at his shirt either.

On this whole Cas thing, if he isn't really God and Actual!God (whether it is Chuck or not) comes back, has Cas basically become the new Lucifer? Overthrowing Heaven and all that? If Actual!God comes back, I can't imagine Cas just stepping aside. He's too hopped up on the power now to do that.

They were DEFINITELY talking by the time of the con I went to. Don't know if anything happened that you're referring to, but Jensen and Jared have mentioned many times that they are best friends.

Jared married Genevieve Cortese (Ruby) on February 27th 2010. She was billed in 'The French Mistake' as Genevieve Padalecki.

The whole "they didn't talk" wasn't at all a reflection on Jensen and Jared in real life. I'm pretty sure they just threw it in as a reason why the characters should try as hard as possible to return to the real world where Sam and Dean's relationship was much better.
