Supernatural (TV Show)

I tried a few seasons of Supernatural . There is merit in there, some great episodes , interesting lore etc ..but there was something I really didn't like about the show , some sort of underlying machismo or misogyny or whatever that made it feel imbalanced to me .Maybe it needed more enduring women characters that stayed alive in the same body , for more than a few episodes ?Or something like that anyway . I wasn't going to hatewatch the whole thing just to find out .

I will have to have another go at it one day . It's totes in my wheelhouse and a 15 season epic sounds appealing to me .

I have such mixed feelings of the show. Seasons 1-3 I absolutely love, seasons 4-5 are also pretty good, then it slowly goes downhill from there. It does just depend what you like though. I preferred the horror element which is much more prevalent in the earlier seasons but there is more christian theology stuff as the seasons go on (which I wasn't a big fan of). That doesn't mean there aren't good episodes from the later seasons though, a prime example of one is Scoobynatural episode from season 12.
After season 7 I just wanted someone to kill Sam and Dean for good so they can finally rest, to be honest. Also, they really like to bring characters back from the dead - which is fine, but there is a point where it becomes predictable and boring. Many of the characters are well written as well as the dialogue, and the story itself (to a point) is entertaining. The more creative episodes of the show are also rather good - like the one filmed only from the car.
My advice is: stop watching it when you get bored, it doesn't get better.

Don't listen to ABS, the issues with S6 and S7 are not the fault of Sera Gamble. If anything, her stepping down as writer was a mistake, as she was one of the best writers in the previous 5 seasons.

😛

Whose fault was it, then? The senior citizens actors who portray Sam and Dean? 😈

Rewatching season 4 now and they look so young! I usually start a rewatch at season 1, but I skipped it this time and hope to get 4 and 5 watched before season 15 starts. Once it finishes next year I'll do a full rewatch.
I wanna go to the Crossroads con!

Some s12 ep I was watching had a ”then” from season 2-4 ish and Jensen looked like such a baby! Comparatively, of course. So crazy to think about how long they’ve been doing this (and maybe what a baby I looked like when I started watching ... I’d rather not dwell on that part 😛)

And on that note, to update my previous post in this thread, I’m enjoying the heck out of s11-12 (and hopefully 13 soon).

Thanks for that @Taake I now realise that I was a teenager still when this show started and now I'm in my 30s!

Yeah, I'm glad I don't do selfies. If I cant see the ageing its not there 😛 Shame about the feeling it 😉 .

Its cool they have been let to age though, they are HUMAN characters after all. They both got more handsome I rekon, aged well.

It is said that some folk look at others and think they still look good, the old ones that is.
What about Misha, should Cas always look the same? I prefer him later on, in the season 4 episodes I'm watching his hair looks too dark!

I only started to watch Supernatural recently (currently near the end of season 1 so), but I’d say it’s worth watching but in small doses (2-3 episodes at a time). 14 seasons was daunting for me as well until I realized you can watch one season at a time at your own pace. There’s no reason to rush through it imo so I’ll probably just watch S1 this year and wait until next year to watch S2.

The show has a Fugitive/Buffyverse vibe with a bit of Only Fools and Horses thrown in, though it’s still its own thing. It’s a bit formulaic by today’s standards, but to be fair, most shows were like that until the last decade or so. It’s refreshing to be able to watch a fantasy show with main characters who aren’t supernatural beings.

Finished watching S1. Enjoyable season and had a very good season finale, though for some reason I didn’t care enough about the characters to want to keep watching the series. Maybe I’ll go back to the show someday.

Never watched Supernatural because I'm afraid when I know that there's more than 10 seasons, I don't think that there's TV shows that can maintain great/good quality in more than 8 seasons (even less). Shows that lasts more than 10 seasons seems to just pandering instead of just end it even if most fans can feel that it jumped the shark a LONG time ago and become a shadow of itself like Grey's Anatomy, Er.....

And I hate to stop in the middle of a TV show, I usually watch all episodes. TVD was good to watch but became a pain for me to continue to watch past season 4. I just stopped watching Er at the end of S8 even if I hate to not watch all episodes of TV show that I'm now a fan because the show has 15 seasons and I heard that it will jump the shark badly (if it's not already done!).

So when I think about trying to watch Supernatural which has more than 10 seasons in it. I'm afraid !! Lol. But as people say that 5 seasons are a must watch, I will maybe give the 5 first seasons of SPN a try, later....

I'm up to s11, personally I love it. When it gets too serious there is always a fun episode thrown into the mix to lighten the mood. I'm getting nervous because I'm getting closer to the end now! lol

Just remember if you only watch one episode a day it'll still take nearly a year! Once season 15 ends it'll be 327 episodes, plus gag reels, and hillywood parodies!

But anyways at least I love the SPN conventions on YouTube😂😂😂

I'm a big fan of Supernatural! Dean and Sam have incredible chemistry, and have a fascinating dynamic. I own the DVDs up to season 10 and re-watch my favorite episodes often.

Personally, I recommend watching through Season 5 in order. There is continuity. Those are the best seasons in my opinion.

As for 'ships in the series, I love Dean/Jo and Sam/Ruby. 😉 (later are married in real life!)

Dean and Buffy are very similar characters too, and have experienced similar things. you'll see!

Be careful watching fan made videos though before you've watched it! You'll get spoilers.
