Supernatural

Dean and Spike are tied for my favorite characters of all time. Dean is my baby and I love him and I will hug him and never let him go. Supernatural is currently my main fandom... so I just have a lot of feelings.

It gets SO much better from the beginning. The first five seasons are told in this really interesting way... the story zooms out kinda... it's just really great. Enjoy Kripke's tenure.

Season 8 was a great story, horrible execution in my opinion. Did the end feel wrong pacing wise to anyone else?

And can we talk about the cast? Like I just need to Misha for a second. kaljslk;fjsklfkldsaf

zobothehobo I totally agree about the pacing of season 8. I am really intrigued to see how season 9 will play out, though.

Seasons 2, 4 and 5 will always be my favourite.

Those are my favourite seasons aswell :)
Just a random thing I wanted to add to the thread. I've been watching Justified lately, and Jim Beaver has played a recurring character for a few seasons. I was watching it last night and his character said "Balls!" just like Bobby. That's gotta be a shout out to Supernatural fans, don't you think? Either way, it made me smile 🙂

That's awesome! He does this on Supernatural as well. He was on the show Deadwood and on the episode where they go back in time to a western town.. Bobby says something about being "stuck in Deadwood." My wife and I just looked at each other and laughed.

Another odd Jim Beaver mention. When I was in Afghanistan, my whole room watched Deadwood all the way through and for some reason we switched to Supernatural afterwards. Well, I guess being cabin-fever-crazy over there, we related everything to Jim Beaver.. like the lord of our room, or something, hard to explain, lmao. We practically gratified "Jim Beaver We Trust" or "Jim Beaver Will Get Us Home" everywhere

Jim landed an Emmy nomination for his role in Justified... just btw. apparently this latest season had him as a really big player in the story and he did an incredible job with it.

(also his daughter and I share a birthday. Yay Maddie!)

Really? Cool! Yeah, he was very good :)
I bought season 1-8 on dvdv recently, had seen parts of it before now doing a proper watch, currently up to season 5, been watching some eps with OccaQuokka think she's enjoying me finally watching them!

Yes definitely nightshade! Haha. It is fun to watch with friends and be able to chat about. Its hard not to chat about spoilers at times though.

Loved season 9 too, found the last ep a little bit predictable but loving what they are setting up for season 10 🙂

Im re-watching it on chat with nightshade, its good to see crowly and cas from their first appearances again.

I just recently got into the show & started buying the seasons back in March. So far I've watched seasons 1-6. I can't wait to see the rest. So far I've enjoyed every single season. There are some great episodes & I love the episodes with Amber Benson. There are too many great episodes to name in a short post lol but I'd have to say my favorite seasons were probably 2-4. I'm sure that might change after I re-watch again. I love the plotlines & storylines but I was surprised that I actually enjoy the standalone eps quite a bit as well. Great cast & soundtrack. A couple of my favorite characters aren't on the show anymore at this point but I'm still anxious to see what happens.

I've now finished season 7 on my watch, and am really enjoying it, wasn't too fond of season 6 but think season 7 got better as it went on, and brought some of the fun back that was in the first couple of seasons.

Looking forward to watching seasons 8 and 9.

the dynamic between the brothers was back to the old days, where it had been lost for a while in season 6 I think
I'm not sure if I like what they have done with Dean's character towards the end of season 9. But it will be interesting in season 10 to see how Sam deals with this and how their relationship develops and is effected by it all.

I can hardly bring to mind some of the previous seasons at the minute, though I have all the DVD's tucked away 😀

I did like how it built up from season 4, through season 5. For me season 6 I liked not so much as it disturbed the dynamic between the brothers for much of this series. But this then comes back stronger in seasons 7, 8 and 9.

As for the early series, season 1 is very monster of the week style, but it soon develops in season 2 to something much more than this. Season 2 was what got my initial interest. I think the episode where they end up in that bank hostage situation is one of the first times I really got gripped by it all. Season 3 I skipped originally, going back to it later on, but it is a great series the only flaws being that it was cut short not allowing as steady development towards the conclusion as would have been more ideal.

I enjoyed the early seasons but they kept getting more and more involved with the occult, it seemed as though the show needed to provide greater special effects. Then they went back to more tales of supernatural happening. Now they are getting deeper and deeper into the occult again.
Personally I wish they'd stick to supernatural happenings. But the ratings must be good so there's gonna be more of Angels behaving badly.

Has anyone got a theory on how the show might end?

By Occult do you mean the religious background to a lot of it? I have my reservations with some of that emphasis, and was initially a bit taken aback by how blatantly they moved further in this direction through season 4 and 5, and then again through season 8 and 9, but I find it does help to give more of a unity to the whole series when it is guided by some of those ancient religious mythologies.

As for an ending to the show it seems for now they are going to reverse the dynamic and do with Dean for a while what they did in the past with Sam. I wouldn't like to think how it could end, but maybe after some tough times with Dean struggling with his "demons", some sort of final reconciliation and peace for them would be good.

My use of the term occult refers to the type of supernatural that deals specifically it demons, demonology, and the extremes of black magic.
I am interested to know how the dealings with Angels will end.

I am reminded of the old concept of a non believer being in the middle of a field wondering which of two sides to go to for help.
On the first side are dead devout religious types who would take out their wrath on the non believer. While.
On the second side are successful devil worshippers.

I love the direction its taking. Much more epic than run of the mill demon stories. I am about to start season 9 again with @nightshade (I hope!) if any one is ever up for a sync chat it could be arranged.

This is one of my go-to shows. When nothing is on tv or boredom hits, its supernatural or buffy on.

net is sorted so will be starting it soon!
I've now finished supernatural and wow!! I finished it too quickly, now I have to wait for months for season 10!

Loved the ending though, that speech was amazing, but such a sad ep!

I love love love Crowlys howl at the moon speech, oh man I could listen to that voice all day!

So excited for next season, the adventures of demon Dean! Will he be a bit like Cain? Or out of his mind crazy evil? I really liked Cain so I hope we do see more of him. I'd love for there to be a bit of a split - Dean with Crowly and Cas with Sam. For one, it would make the Destial shippers wild, but also I think it would help Sam grow as a character.

I like the first blade but I wonder if they will keep it around. It'd get to be a boring show if all you had to do was stab 'em with the first blade. I guess it will be part of Deans power though too.

I thought about that with the angel blades, especially after Crowley turned his into bullets, figured that would have caught on and made it like the Colt's bullets able to kill pretty much anything, but maybe like the Colt it with fade into nothingness.
