Survival Horror Video Games

Roll up, video game fans!

Some of the best video games I've seen are that of the survival horror genre. Great games like Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Clock Tower have been spawned from the great minds of game creators. Some of the plots (especially Silent Hill) have even hit home for me, and I've never seen such fantastic characters come out of video games until I played survival horror; that's just naming a few. The survival horror genre has kept up with next-gen, producing games like Dead Space and Bio-Shock.

They're just my opinions, let me know your favourites!

I play both Left 4 Deads. I've never played Silent Hill or Resident Evil, though I'd kind of like to.

Oh, Jesus, don't remind me. I think everyone died a little when Pyramid Head was "interacting" with the Mannequin monster. Let's not go back there, damn you!

I'm guessing no one heard of Fatal Frame? I've never been able to finish any fatal fram game because I would always get too scared. Resident Evil isn't that bad, but I love the gameplay. Dead space is only scary because it's like "Where the frick did you come from?!?!" Bioshock isn't scary. Just really ugly lol. Although in Bioshock 2, i'd always crap myself when the big sister came along. L4D 1 and 2 are just fun. Not scary at all. Well, except for the witch!

Although in Bioshock 2, i'd always crap myself when the big sister came along. L4D 1 and 2 are just fun. Not scary at all. Well, except for the witch!

Fatal Frame is the scariest game I've ever played. I can barely look at a camera now 🙁

I've like literally just gotten into the Survival Horror genre, but I'm loving it! I'm currently playing Resident Evil 4 on the wii. I've also just played Amnesia on the PC and holy crap, that scared the bejeesus outta me. I'm playing Penumbra:Overture right now too and supposedly it's scarier than Amnesia. Gulp.

When I eventually get a PS3 I'm planning on playing some Dead Space also!

Yay for Fatal Frame!! You're definitely not the only fan here 😛 I'm exactly the same with not being able to finish it, it's sissy girl behaviour, I'm telling you.

I'm not a huuuuge fan of next-gen games like Bioshock, they seem to be over-publicized. I'm sticking with the old survival horrors! The monster things are pretty out there though.

I'm with you, I don't think Resident Evil is that scary. It's enjoyable, but the only time I've ever gotten scared by it was when I could hear freakin' chainsaws and couldn't work out where they were coming from, so I panicked and then got sawed to death :/

Things like Amnesia scare me much more because I think it's more like...psychological or something? I swear I spent most of that game freaking out and running just for it to turn out there was nothing there :|

Terrifying. Brilliant, but genuinely scary.

I agree with what was said above about newer S/H games losing their scariness. I think the increased budgets and power have made things too 'clean'. It's the same as the film/TV industry, compare The Exorcist to Human Centipede or Twin Peaks to the Ghost Whisperer and you have no contest when it comes to fear.

What's Fatal Frame like?

I agree with the fact that Res. Evil isn't particularly scary, it's a physical strength thing. Zombie. Bam. Done. With games like Fatal Frame and Amnesia, it's all about the psychological side, to practically scare the player into thinking the game is almost real. That's the beauty of it!

Fatal Frame is one of the wierdest games I've played, personally. The idea is brilliant though. If you like odd games like Amnesia, you'll definitely want to play Fatal Frame, purely because of the psychological side. It leaves a mark, for sure.

You won't regret playing it! Well.. maybe a little, but only because you'll be scared out of your skin.

I've not played fatal frame, but back when I used to play alot of video games one I remember was doom that I found to be quite scary.

I never got to play Dead Space, Left 4 Dead, etc. yet since I'm not a big gamer these days....but I'll always remember and love Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Doom....those games were epic and i remember my brothers being scared of them lmao...I would love for them to make remakes of the original ones on next gen systems cause I would buy it quick...maybe let you create your own character this time...it be cool 😀

Same here man. I haven't played a game properly for years either, just lost all enthusiasm for the medium. I was the Store Manager of a games store for 6 years so maybe that's why 😛

I love playing Dead Space and Dead Space 2!. Having no Medikits and low health I start running away from Necromorphs yelling "FU*K.FU*K.FU*K.FU*K.FU*K.FU*K.FU*K." and when I down one out comes the smack talk like "yeah mother trucker!, who's your daddy now bitch!" while curb stompin' their asses, then I turn around and there's a Hunter behind me🙁.
