(No, I didn't invent the name, somebody else did, but I like it)

Northwest Georgia is at the moment in the middle of what passes for a blizzard (5 to 8 inches of snow, severe cold, and badly iced over roads) so I've been pretty much holed up here for the last couple of days, which just got me to wondering...

What do you do when you're stuck at home for extended reasons, for whatever the reason? I've got tons of movies and TV shows on disc and VHS tape and plenty of books, and I've even tried my hand at writing again. That, and plenty of coffee, and I can survive for days.
 
Well I rarely leave the house anyway... so if I was stuck at home for an extended period of time (which I normally am), I'd enjoy spending my day on BB and watching whatever TV show I can find on the internet. I'm good at watching things on the internet. I'm currently trying to get caught up on No Ordinary Family. Good show BTW.

And 5 to 8 inches is what passes for a blizzard in Georgia? We got 5 inches on Dec 26 and it was just fun. Well fun for those who weren't sick like me. The only time we've had a blizzard was 4 feet in January 2000.

Remember, this is the SOUTHEAST. We close the schools for just a couple of inches of snow or ice. Yes, a little snow shuts everything down here.
It's supposed to snow up to 18 inches where I am tomorrow...ugh. I hate being stuck in the house all day. I wanted to go fill my face at Taco Bell but nooooooooo.
 
I was in downtown Atlanta at the end of last month and it while I missed the snowfall, there was still snow on the ground when I got there! ATL did't seem set up for snow (which is fair since it is in GA) so it must be crazy there now!
 
The kind of snow they are getting in Georgia is the kind of snow that maybe gets us at most a 2 hour delay for elementary students, but have fun guys! Enjoy it. Build a snow man! Its rare you get this kind of opportunity! 🙂

It has to be crazy getting that kind of snow and ice when people don't know how to drive in it. Its bad enough when people do know how to drive in it. Ice on the roads gets scary.

It snowed about four inches or so today, but it was spread out throughout the entire day so it wasn't bad at all. You just get out and shovel a time or two and you are good to go. Didn't slow anything down. I'm hoping we miss out on all the blizzard fun. This was fun fluffy snow. 🙂
 
I'm in Middle Tennessee. We have about 4 inches on the ground and the governor has declared a state of emergency and shut down all the public schools. A friend of mine in the PhD program who's from Alaska is all like, "Whaaaaaaaaaat?"

I've spent the last two days lesson planning and watching Dcotor Who and playing Fable III, but now I have to go up to campus for school-preppy stuff. Shudder.
 
I'm in NC and so far there has been 3 days of school cancelled. We got 5-6" on Monday and it's really sunny today so it'll probably all melt, but I won't be surprised if they call off tomorrow as well.

People here seem to be terrified of snow. Case in point- a little story for you. I went to stay with my brother on Xmas night. The next day, there was like 8" of snow on the ground and we both LOVE snow so we freaked out and decided to build a snowman. Since he lives in an apartment complex with nowhere to build one, we decided to build it in the back of his pickup truck and drive it over to our parents house. Basically I stood in the back of the truck, knee deep in snow and made the snowman as he went around scooping snow up with a freakin cookie sheet and dumping it in the truck.

Ok, now. One of his neighbors comes outside and is talking on her cell phone. She, very loudly, says 'I don't know what to do! This stuff is everywhere and what if it falls on my car or breaks a tree branch and hits my car! Oh god, this is so horrible and there are idiots out here playing in it like it's nothing!'

I mean come on. Look lady, it's snow. If anyone is dying for the ending, my brother called her a b***h, then she went inside and we continued making the snowman that we named Lumpy. People who weren't toal bitcas who were walking around stopped to take pictures of it. 😀

Anywho, this might be off topic for this thread, but oh well. Maybe this could be my answer to what I do when I'm stuck in the house by snow? I go out and play in it! 😀 😀 😀

Last night, pretty much all the schools in my state got cancelled and the weather men are saying it's going to snow alot tonight too.
 
You guys seem to get it much worse than we do over here. We have a tiny bit of snow and then everything just shuts down, silly really when you look at just how much snow America gets in comparison.

When I was 'snowed in' last year I just spent most of the day in front of the fire with the dog and some tea, listening to Sigur Ros. Quite a lovely time actually. Either that or just go on The Sims and lose a large chunk of my time that way.
 
The snow isn't that bad here, it doesn't keep me from being outside or anything, the worst though is when the snow is melting and it becomes ice and it's difficult to walk. That's how it's been for few days here now so I've just stayed in, and watched some favorite movies from when I was a child, like Death becomes her, Who framed roger rabbit, Jumanji and lots more, and I've been watching a lot of Modern Family lately 😀
 
Oh man. I WISH we only ever had 5 - 8 inches here. If we did, people would think it was spring all the time. Heck, I'd take zobo's 4ft blizzard. I think we average 50 - 100 inches a winter, with the upper penninsula getting more like 150 inches.

I was in Missouri, visiting my cousin, a couple years ago. They had "snowfall" and everyone FREAKED OUT. It wasn't even enough to cover all the grass. Their stores were giving away shovels and salt.

My best friend went to college in Kentucky for a year and they had "snowfall". They shut down the highway and people were having to sleep in some arena because they couldn't go home.

Next week I will be turning 22 and I only ever remember having two days off of school in a row when we got 6 ft of snow overnight. They didn't shut down the highway though...
 
I kicked a small bit of snow away from my porch a few weeks ago and that is how I survived Snowpocalypse 2010.
