So here's the idea, Take our regular cast of characters and actors but switch them out with each other.

So, do you think it works if we have Allyson play Buffy and Sarah have a go at Willow?

I actually think that could fly pretty well.

Also, and I can't believe I'm saying this but I think Nick and James could have switched places. Granted, we'd have a rather different Xander and Spike, but not so out of the ballpark that they wouldn't be in the game.

Nick played a darned scary hyena boy and vamp, and James can do the good hearted guy who falls over his own feet at times but comes through in the end because hey, that's Spike in a nutshell (except he's evil)

IF I can convince them to do the SNL style reunion idea I have, I totally want to see Nick and James switch characters. I think that could be all sorts of awesome.

Oh god noooo! I could never see NB playing Spike. As much as I love NB I just don't think he'd be a good fit as Spike in any shape or form.

I can see Nick as Angel, as weird as that is. More so I could see him as Angelus, he played a really great vamp. Same for Aly, she could be a really convincing Dru, in fact her Dark Willow gets close to that.

Agree with @Monkey Pants Amber could play a bitchy character, or a villain. I could see her play maybe Darla.

Sarah would make a good Cordy.

Amy would make a good Willow.

Snyder as Giles LOL. (okay not really, but it'd be funny).

Anthony as Spike, that'd be something I'd want to see, I think he could pull it off, aside from maybe his older age.

I agree with @Blaze, the actress who plays Amy would have been a pretty good Buffy or Willow. I like her and wish she'd somehow had more screentime. As for Amber playing a bitch, I really like her more laid back, sarcastic real life personality compared to Tara's character, and I like other roles she's done where she was kinda edgy and mean, and it would have been nice to see her play something along those lines, like possibly The First in season 7, or a vampire version of Tara, or Tara being possessed or something, something to break up her sweet, but monotonous character. I liked her better when she was crazy😱😉

I know right? I ADORE James as Spike, and no one else could ever be THAT Spike. But...I do think that had they been given those roles at the start and made them their own, they actually could have rocked it. The end product would surely be different, but I think it would have been a good one.

Meanwhile...don't tell either of them I said that.

The actress that plays Amy could have done a great Prof Walsh, less stiff but very powerful and menacing.

I like the guy who played Ethan, I'm wondering who we could switch him up with.

Amber Benson would have made a great Angel, we'd get to see both sides of her. And she would have been so less creepy that broody old guy. That would have been awesome!

I think Tony would have made an incredible Angel as well.

I fully support that! That would have been great.

I'd liked to see AH as Dru - she did a spectacular job playing vamp Will and I'm so curious what would be her take on Dru's character.

SMB could play a wonderful Darla
NB or AH as Angel - that'd be a treat, both are very expressive. Which would make btvs Angel sooo good.

There is the actress that played Katrina - I'd like to see her take on a vegenance demon role.

JM as Willow or Xander - would've loved that.

And i wonder what'd happened if they'd switched Giles and Ethan.

(And in another note what if Buffy had Hank instead of Joyce to live with and given a female watcher.)

Yes the actress who played Katrina was really good, she would have been a great vengeance demon. I think I would have preferred her as Amy than the one we got.

I've considered switching Ethan and Giles too, but I'm not sure if Ethan has the right vibe. I find Giles role one of the hardest to cast.

What about switching Jonathan (Danny Strong) with Dawn (MT)?

"Amber Benson would have made a great Angel,"

Seriously?

Imo gender swopping in this instance wouldn't work for me personally as imo it would mean a major re-write of both the characters and the show really.

lol Allison could never play Buffy. And having Sarah play Willow would be doing the "giving a pretty girl glasses and calling her ugly" thing to an even more ridiculous degree.

I can see Nick playing Spike - he did pretty well as Vamp!Xander. James I think would be too old to play Xander but as far as the role itself goes I could see it working.

Just in our heads. It's all the fun 😀

But even if you don't do gender swap switching NB with (younger) JM or AH with (younger) JL it would been a completely different show...

Looks like Joss was more or less flexible and took into account the actors abilities, their strengths and weaknesses when writing the characters. .. and i am really curious about AH's Drusilla, because AH hasshe has range.
Dru, like Spike, loved her family, Angel describes her as 'She was pure, and sweet and chaste.' and she seemed really angry at Angel in that scene when she remembers how he eliminated her family. AH could play well Dru's mood swings between bloodlust and innocence...

lol Allison could never play Buffy.

i dunno...
Willow was pretty convincing in The Weight of the World when she said:

WILLOW: (glaring at them) Buffy's out. Glory has Dawn. Sometime real soon, she's gonna use Dawn to tear down the barrier between every dimension there is. So if you two wanna fight, do it after the world ends, okay?

She was also great as vamp Willow and Dark Willow. She could play the hero with the weight of the world in her shoulders.

That is already ridiculous with AH, who is very pretty. But despite SMG being very talented, i agree, i don't really see her as Willow.

I don't think AH could have carried the show BUT to your point that's why I said "even more ridiculous degree".

i see your point. SMG did a great job building the Buffy character.
Swapping out actors will always end up changing lots of things. It's inevitable. And ultimately in a TV show the writers always play off the actors, there is no other way, so we have to bend our imaginations with this one.

The age factor of course pops up, so sometimes I'm squinting when I make my suggestions and am going more for the actors abilities and personalities than the actual feasibility of it. Nick was quite a bit older than the character he played, but he didn't much look it . I think Emma looked too old for the part she played.

OK, where can we put David B? Which other role would he work in? I like him evil!

I definitely think that AH could carry this show, or any show on her own. I also think she has enough range to play nearly every role convincingly. Would it work quite as well? No, because everyone cast was perfect in there own roles, and the characters were partly built around them. But AH is the only one I can see being able to morph in to several different characters well, personally. 🙂
