Have you all seen this? It's pretty cool. It claims that our Buffyverse vampires are:

"Typically alluring, Ordinary/Pale, Ordinary but often above average, but hideous when in their natural "vampire form". Older vampires often get more and more deformed, for example, grow hoofs."

According to this, wouldn't Angel be getting deformed by now? He's pretty old.

I don't think he's old enough to start getting 'deformed'. I mean, how much older was The Master than Angel? He was so old he'd got stuck with his vamp face but that was about it. And I guess Kakistos was way older as he was all hoofy.

On a side note, Kakistos, hooves or no, does not ever make me think he's older than the Master. I guess it was because the lair underground gave The Master some really old feel about him but I think Kakistos was a fraud! 😛

Angel's 357-ish, right (as-of After the Fall, and counting his 100 years in Acathala's dimension)?

I don't know, I never really bought into that theory of age making vampires more demonic. I know Darla & the Watcher's Diaries said that, but no one in the Buffyverse ever saw this take place.

Personally, especially in lieu of the Turok Han, I think it's more about bloodline than years being undead. My wild theory is that the Master, Kokistos, and Prince of Lies are sort of the missing link, bridging Contemporary Vamps with Uber-Vamps.

I think those three were sired by Uber-Vamps, which caused them to eventually become super-demonic. Therefore Darla, as a third-Gen, was far enough away not to be infected as badly as the Master, not to mention all of the other vamps who are very far from Turok-Hans.

Would the turok an even be capable of sireing? I thought they'd be to single minded to be capable. But i put Master and Kakistos appearance totally down to age.

Darla was only 400. Giles called the Master 'one of the oldest on record' and Kakistos 'ancient'. I imagine them to be well over 1000, or possibly even twice that age. Remember Spike said 'please, if every vampire that said he was at the crucifiction was actually there...' so i assume there has to be at least a few thousand year old vamps out there, and they'd be Old bat faces like the Master.

I'm not so sure about the above average attractiveness thing. For the Buffyverse, where everyone's pretty hot, I wouldn't say that the vampires were noticeably better looking.

Good question. I think that all of the vampires are capable of siring. It's probably an instinctual thing. After all, they need to keep their species from dying out. There's no rule that says that only the smart vamps have the ability to sire. 😉

Oooh, that's cool. Good read. 😀 I always thought that maybe the reason The Master always had his vampire face was not only because he was so old, but that he used his demonic face so much more that it just sorta stuck. 😛
