Music Piracy leads to industry profit.

for those of you scared of big pages of large words here the short version
the UK music idustry (better known as a force of darkness.) has released its made a rise on profits in 2003. because shops on and off line have started lowering their prices from around £15 to under £10 hence more CDs sold 🙂

£15 is about $28 (US)
£10 is about $18 (US)

so yes hurrah!

The same happened in the states, 2003 performed better than 2002, they are just scared because they know that music piracy is leading more buyers to independent music, since it's almost by rule better.

I really hope mainstream labels run out of business soon, untalented artists would disappear and those who actually know what they are doing would recieve what they deserve.
 
Finally, prices are getting reasonable, the whole reason for piracy, are the too high prices. It's ridiculous!
 
meh. I wish they'd lower more, now I hear cd-wow.com are being taken to court for selling there cds at 8.99 and dvds cheaper because they buy them in from asia somehwere and get them cheaper so can sell them off cheaper but there is some breach of some law. yea I know a lot about what I'm talking about, can you tell 😛
 
I still can't believe how a cd can have a crappy booklet, 12 tracks with a total running time of 40 minutes and cost 15-17 bucks, even more when you realize the artists, those who actually write the music may get 50 cents or 1 buck from it. And yet, no one seems to mind.

Lorne The Host consider yourself lucky, we get charged what would be $27 (US) for CDs we have to hunt high and low for the $9 CDs here in Britain 🙁
 
I would never buy a single cd for 27$! That's ridiculous. In Russia the cds are about 50 cents, plus they have some really cool music, I want to go there and go crazy. 🙂
 
Just goes to show you. Filesharing is a good thing. Stops Price Gouging.

Speaking of Indie music. Does anyone else use the "fill your shared folder with Indie music, and move your RIAA crap to a separate folder" trick? You can't be sued that way, and no-one will call you a leech.
 
Recording Industry Association of America. They're the guys that sue you.

More than that though RIAA has become a kind of shortcut when you're talking Music related issues to mean "mainstream music Industry-backed".

When I say move your RIAA files from your shared folder. I mean the shared folder you use to store the files you share on a filesharer such as kazaa. That way they can't sue you.

I got into Buffy originally because of my interest in Hong Kong action films. At their best, they could make the unforced swing from funny to serious and back again that you get from Buffy.

That led me to collect Hong Kong soundtrack albums and compilations of movie related songs at about $16-17 a CD. And no temptation to pirate them. Why? Because the packaging is so elaborate. These come with entire sets of souvenir postcards, mini-photo albums, beautiful gift boxes, elaborate fanfold custom cases. Et cetera. All this for audio CDs.

Point is, when you're getting your money's worth you don't mind spending it. Any other reaction to getting ripped off is only natural IMO.

RIAA is not your friend.

Being somone who dosent want to be sued i should point out i dont download illigle things 😉

however should i do i would use the "move to a CD or minidisc" trick which dosent take up your computer 🙂
 
Oh, I see. Well, the only things I download are what I can't get from a store easily.

Wanna download music, legal and cheap?

Try a Russian download service.

5 cents a song. Under a buck for an album. Compare that to a buck a song from Itunes.

They're legal because they comply with Russian law.

The RIAA is scared senseless of them. They can't do anything about them. All they can do is hope not too many people hear about them.

The downside... They're Russian. I'd be thinking Russian mob. Would I sign up then discover a whole bunch of phony credit cards are being made with my name on them.

Another warning. A lot of bogus sites are popping up, claiming to be Russian music sites that aren't.
