The show which first made Laura Linney a name is being revived by Netflix this week. Linney returns and is joined by Ellen Page.

As someone whose never seen the original show I'm asking people who have is it any good?

What do you think of the prospect of this revival?

@Mr Trick : She was pretty good once upon a time, although I'm not really a fan of her in Hard Candy. Her part in 'Super!' was way more twisted and interesting.

Yeah not getting this Page hate 😛 First saw her in Hard Candy and was really impressed. Since then she's picked some really interesting roles and even if the films not been great she is normally great in it. Linney's fantastic too.

I'm lukewarm on this revival because it does look like another kind of liberal baiting revival coming out to reflect the changing of times. But there's enough good talent involved to make it worth a look.

I've never heard of it either but who cares, certainly not Netflix. They will put anything on screen even if the show ignores all the big no-no's of scriptwriting.

The first episode was very watchable and had better pacing and direction than the original series. The problem is that outside of the Laura Linney, Ellen Page and Dukakis characters the supporting parts don't grab my attention. Again it feels very box ticking and heavy handed. It still has that soapy/sit come feel. Fans of the original series will probably like it. There was enough in the first episode for me to watch more.

Did you keep watching? I'm on episode 5 and the show pleasantly surprised me. Maybe it's because I'm part of the community but it actually doesn't feel heavy handed to me. It feels like it was written (or at least with the input) by queer people for queer people.

Still only seen 2 episodes. The first one was pretty strong, the second not so much. I think the soapy elements are getting in the way a little. The other problem is that so far the supporting characters are quite dull compared with Linney's character and the other leads. But I will give it a bit of more of watch.

Maybe that's why I like it, it's nice to have a LGBT soap! Some of the supporting characters remain dull (the twins) but others are developped further.
