I'm a slayer mythology junkie so I love these books, my favorite being Volume 1. I liked Volume 3 the least, I didn't really feel anything for any of the slayers or their watchers and didn't like the way the authors told their stories.

I went through a lot of the book threads and didn't see them mentioned anywhere. How does anyone else feel about them?

I also am obsessed with the Slayer mythology! I've read the first and am working my way through the second.

So far I'd have to agree that I liked the first the best.

I've read all of them and love them 😀 Actually these books are the whole reason I discovered Buffy. I noticed one in the library, found the name familliar, took it out and read it, and the rest is history 😀 Now I feel like reading them again. Yes, I'd have to say volume 1 is my favorite too.

I only have volume 4 and I'm reading it right now.

I love it!

I'm gonna have to start looking for the others. They all seem really really good.

I really want the graphic novel version, has anyone got that?

I have it and I love it! Definitely pick it up if you get the chance.

I always hear such good things on the books, but never really read them. They sound a very interesting read though, so might read them someday. I just prefer reading books that actually have Buffy in them, Buffy the series, what's on the show, not the things around it.

I read some of this when I picked up Darkhorse's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer:Tales" hardcover. I enjoyed it, seeing the past slayers and Giles grandmother was a nice fact

Yeah that graphic novel is great! It's the first Buffy comic that I read. And I loved all the exploration of previous slayers.

That's what led me to buy the fourth volume book. I finished it the other day by the way and I enjoyed every story in it.

I've not read the comics or Vol III so I can't comment on them but, although Vol I has the best collection of stories overall, I think Vol IV had some of the best stories of the whole series.

I think my favourite comes from Vol II; The War Between the States. NYC, flappers and a love triangle = awesome. Loved that it wasn't written from a slayer/watcher's/demons perspective too. Great insight and really sad.

I also really enjoyed Alone (Vol IV - Catherine, an Irish Slayer), Mornglom Dreaming (Vol I - Mollie, a Kentucky Slayer) and It's All About The Mission (Vol IV -Nikki, a NYC Slayer).

The only thing I find a little annoying is that the majority of slayers all tend to be from America or Western Europe and existed in the last few centuries. I'd love to read about a Slayer from India, Russia or South America who existed in the dark ages or something. I suppose it must be hard to do justice to a story when the culture and times are relatively unknown - and the more distant and exotic, the tougher the research - but it would be fascinating.

I'd love to know about the rise of the Council too; how did it develop from the original three magic men to the patriarchal English institution (I bet the Empire had something to do with it.....)?

Some of the Slayers must have resisted the Council's control too (for patriotic reasons apart from anything else), or fought their calling, or got a bit drunk on the power (perhaps not as madly as Faith), or went mad with the pressure, or the Council thought a Slayer so unsuitable they 'eliminated' her (eeeek) etc.....I'm desperate for that sort of stuff to be explored! 🙂

I bought them just a day back. They haven't arrived yet. I heard they were interesting so I decided to buy them. If I start reading them I will keep you guys updated!

I've read all three of the Watchers Guides! They were really interesting. They had a lot of facts and I enjoyed reading them very much! 🙂

I definitely think they're worth the buy 🙂 I don't think you'll regret it. Granted it was years ago I read I got them (and read them last) and recently I sold my own but the stories are well-written and thrilling, especially if you like Slayer mythology (a few of them I suppose are kind of weak but it doesn't matter much since there are so many short stories to chose from) 🙂

I love Tales of the Slayer - was re-reading some of the stories again last night and a few of them were genuinely excellent. When Buffy was still airing I used to dream that Joss would do a series on past Slayers, a one per ep scenario. He still could.....

The only downside is that there's only so much an author can give in 40 pages. I always find myself wanting more, the full history; were they potentials, how they were called, how they died, did they have family, what were their hobbies, interests, fave colours (lol)? etc

A 'Watcher's Journal' book series would be equally awesome, esp around the Cruciamentum time. How could they do that? I wonder if they found ways to duck the test (like telling the Slayers and asking them to play along without being drugged?)

Buffy and Faith both had superiority and inferiority complexes and season 7 was all about the power and isolation of the Slayer. I'd so interested in seeing to what extend this plagued past Chosen Ones.

I would really love to start reading these but something has me confused again 🙄 lol What's the difference between these? Are they the same thing or something completley different 😕 ??

The first pic there is a graphic novel that Joss and writers of the show wrote.

The second one is a series of actual books that are full of short stories about Slayers. And sometimes writers of the show write some of them. I'm not sure how involved Joss was with them though.

I enjoy reading all of them. 🙂
