Amber Benson did a movie and James Marsters starred in it. They had really good chemistry together. If tara had been straight do you think she And spike would have made an interesting couple? Tara has such a good heart That she might have helped to reform him as well. You can see their chemistry in season 6 In older and far away When she's talking to him about his cramp. Sorry for the craptastic post I'm waiting on a new computer. Voice typing we never knew ye. And for the record I love willow and Tara But it's interesting to imagine other possibilities. I also wonder what it would have been like if Xander and Buffy had ever been together But apparently the show didn't want that for some reason. Personally I couldn't see it.

I've read a little Tara and Spike fic, it could work. I mean, Spike had chemistry with everyone - on both shows. You could pair him with anyone and people would ship it. 😉

As a devoted Spillow shipper myself, I understand the writers toyed with the idea but nothing came of it.

As for Xander and Buffy - SMG I believe suggested it for s7. I think they're better as friends/family, but could understand why they might turn romantic.

Xander is buffys best friend. Making it romantic would have been forced.
The trope of the good girl who reforms the bad boy is one of the oldest in literature and cinema. In reality, Spike is a depraved demon who gets a thrill out of homicide and brags about killing two slayers. Unless Tara developed some mad skills at sorcery and turned Spike into a frog, she would get run over by the same juggernaut of viciousness as slayers did. They may have had chemistry but the eventual chemistry would be ptomaine from Tara's dead body.

nope. Spike isn't just the 'cute bad boy' he's actually ****ed up in the head. He needs someone with darkness in them.

Tara is more 'golden retriever' and would be better in a sunshine x sunshine type dynamic.

Tara with Willow, Tara with Buffy, Tara with Dru (because she's needy in s2), are way better ships.

I can't see her with men, sorry. It would just end up being boring and corny if she was with a man.

But the actual actors would be cute together.

Name someone that James doesn't have chemistry with...

Sure, they would have chemistry, but I can't see it happening. Tara simply isn't damaged, hurting or nuts enough to be into Spike without a total rewrite of her personality.

It wouldn't be Tara; it would be Amber Benson playing a different character.

no the question was about the ship Spike x Tara

^ Absolutely. And @silvermoon said NOTHING about a rewrite.
@SavvyScoobie Rereading what I posted, to clarify, if you had Tara with Spike, it wouldn't be Tara, but someone else. Still called Tara, but not the same person, because you would need to rewrite the character to such an extent that it wasn't her any longer.

I agree that Spike isn't a bad boy, he just uses that (tired) persona as a crutch for his effed up views. He really needs to find out who he really is and change but too many fans adore his persona for that to ever happen.

I don't really see him and Tara from either side really. I don't think she's the type to take his...declarations seriously. She might let him down easy and besides, Spike being 'coded female' doesn't actually translate to 'lesbian dating material'.

From Spike's side he would mistake her near bottomless compassion for weakness I feel. He'd need to see if she had any edge or darkness. And she'd need to kick his ass, obviously. That's also part of the appeal. Love hurts.

A coded female Spike would stand a good chance of being the most hated character on the show.
James has chemistry with everyone. Personally, since I am such a ride or die on my hill Spuffy shipper, it's against my religion to ship him with anyone else, so I will say no comment.
Lol I like that

I find it interesting that most of the couples on Buffy seem to have a light dark dynamic. Anya is kind of the light to xander's darkness for example. You can argue it both ways of course everybody on Buffy has been morally compromised at some point or has morally compromised themselves. That's why the show is so fascinating to me... Tara Was definitely a sunny soul. I think spike started out that way but changed a great deal over time.

Do you consider spike as having any sort of redemption In season 7? Getting his soul back in six And then dying to save the world pretty much counted to me as redemption.

Part of the problem with this paring is Tara's background. She comes from a severely abusive family background where she was certainly emotionally and almost certainly physically abused by every male member of her family. And season 4/early 5 Spike is basically a neutered version of them. Even assuming she meets the gang (you'd have to find another way to bring her in since she isn't with Willow), Spike's personality would almost certainly keep her in her shell.

Not sure i agree. Spike cared for Dru for decades. He is good with broken birds. My bigger problem is seeing them as a couple. We know Tara has steel to stand up to Spike if he misbehaves. We know Spike can be gentle. What i can't see is "lover" chemistry.

EDIT: i also have trouble seeing Tara as straight. Amber sure, but Tara for me is a lesbian.

Yes, but you'd have to get him to care in the first place, and Season 4/early 5 Spike wouldn't. And I don't think Tara has that steel when we first meet her. There's a LOT of difference between Tara when we first meet her and the Tara of later seasons.

If she saw he was hungry and got him blood he might have developed loyalty to her. He is fundamentally a victorian gentleman. The brash dangerous demon is at least partly a face he wears. No he is NOT good but not all loud and hard. A friendship could develop IF the right conditions occurred. But this is the way of a lot of interactions between hurting people

I think Tara had great strength. She left her abusive famiy. That takes a lot when you leave everyone you know and dont end up on the street. She was scared but she was not a pushover

i'm not talking about removing something that's already there, I'm envisioning how it could have been had Tara been written as a straight character from the outset
