[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFTxXamV53g"]joss explains how he planned to bring back Tara.wmv - YouTube[/ame]

Watching this tore my heart out, just picturing it. I'm actually really upset right now. And the fact that he created Kennedy instead, disturbs me!!

Thoughts?

Id heard about this interview before, but had never seen it so first things first, thank you. It makes me so sad that this never happened,it would've been my favorite moment in season 7 and one of my top moments for the entire series if it had happened. Tara was my favorite Buffy character and one of my favorite characters in the entire verse. so sad 🙁

Tara was one of my favorites too
Killing off Tara is still the one thing I will never forgive Joss for. The only thing. I so wish that he had been able to bring her back, but alas, it was not to be. Thankfully I still have fanfics to satisfy me 🙂

Ah! I've not seen nor heard of this before - and 10x better it's Joss clarifying. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it. During the season, I'm sure I would've cried my heart out and been the happiest girl ever, but looking back now I'm happy with the way things went. It was a stronger lesson... But.. could we bring her back the comics now? (Er, I've been waiting for S9 to end to read the whole thing and offshots this year so please excuse any ignorance if there is some)

Cannot you not forgive him now that you know he planned to bring her back?

Given the fact that Alyson Hannigan was responsible for nearly all the emotionally powerful scenes in the show, to some extent, then I can't even imagine how heart wrenching this scene would have been.

Also, it would have completely redeemed most of buffy's bad judgements in the season overall.

This would have been an amazing episode. So unfortunate that it never happened.

And who is the character he thought everyone was saying? I can't understand it.

No. This helps somewhat, but I will not forgive him. He said in one or two interviews prior to the airing of "Seeing Red" that he wasn't going to kill her off. Pretty damn sure that anyone watching that episode would consider it a kill off.

I appreciate the fact that he planned to bring her back, but the hurt is still there and it will not go away that easily. The fact is, he didn't bring her back, and she remains dead in the canon. Even in the comics, he could have brought her back by now more than likely.

He thought, as did I, they were yelling Oz.

I've only ever seen/read the interview where Amber explained this, I thought it sounded stupid to be honest, but hearing him explain it makes it more believable.

Wonder why he hasn't bought her back in the comics then?

I think they were saying "Walsh" from Firefly/Serenity
There's only one thing that gets me madder than Tara not coming back, and that is knowing that she was suppose to come back and it not happening. I was totally fine with her not being there in s7, but knowing that she was suppose to come back just breaks my heart a bit, because I do believe it would have made the whole ending of Buffy that much better for me.

If this would have happened, I guaranty that scene would probably have been my favorite of the series. Both Aly and Amber have amazing on screen chemistry, and I'm sure they would have pulled off the scene very well.

I completely agree, it would have been the defining point of the season for me also.

According to an interview I saw with Amber Benson it was more her fault that Tara couldn't come back as she was too busy, also I'd say it might be due to Amber's wishes that Tara hasn't returned in the comics either, as she does seem to be more of the opinion that Tara should stay dead, or that might just be my interpretation. Personally, I'd agree, bringing Tara back in the comics would seem to fanfictiony to me.

But compared to a lot of other things that have occured in the comics, I don't think bringing Tara back would be that much of a stretch compared to Angel and Buffy making a new reality out of a space sex session.

I'll have to check and see if there's an interview where Amber mentions her opinion on the idea of bringing Tara back.

I agree with you Xin Rong, bringing Tara back now I feel would just not be a good idea. It's been years since she died and I think it made most sense to bring her back for the s7 finale since it would have tied the storyline with Willow and magick well. I feel like the Willow we have in the comic is just too different, bringing Tara back would mean all sort of readjustment that I don't think should be made. Just like I don't want them to bring back Anya. Tara was my favorite, and although I would want to see her in the comics, I 1. Don't want them to mess up her character and 2. I don't think she'll fit in anymore, I mean the Scoobies don't really fit in together in the comics (haven't read s9, but from what I've heard it was a mess).

I think (if Amber is the one not wanting Tara to come back) that she's perfectly justified to think so, I'd be a bit scared of what they might do to my character too. And yes, I also heard that for s7, it was scheduling that was an issue.

Just because it wouldn't be a stretch doesn't mean it would be good, at this point, it wouldn't be a stretch to have a post-op transgendered charmed one come flying into Buffy on the back of the pink-dragon-type-thing from Never ending story whilst wearing a Mike Wasowski costume, particularly given your example of Angel and Buffy making a new reality out of a space sex session

You know what, just forget I said anything. Nevermind. I'll keep my opinions and thoughts to myself.

I didn't mean to offend, I just meant that just because something can happen doesn't mean it should. Genuinely sorry, I think my humour sometimes doesn't translate to the keyboard :/

I must say you did give me a very nice mental image :p that dragon gives me the creep though
I wish it would've happened, and i agree if you could not do it on the show that's one thing, but why cant you do it in the comic books.

It's fine. To be honest, I'm just very defensive on the Internet, especially when it comes to matters about Willow and Tara. My bad, I apologize for my rude behavior.

I've said it before in another thread, but I'm actually glad it worked out so that Tara didn't come back. Not because I have anything against the character, but Buffy's storyline in S6 was all about her chronic depression in coping with being dragged back to life against her will by people she trusted. Since there is no indication that Tara would go anywhere other than a heavenly dimension (she died a natural death, she was, let's face it, one of the nicest people on either series). The idea of Buffy herself doing the same thing back to one of her friends a year or so down the line just doesn't sit right with me. I mean, I know the writing in S7 was pretty inconsistent, so maybe it would have fitted in anyway in that sense 😛 But given that Joss and the writers went with that story for Buffy in S6, they should have at least kept consistency with it.

Tara's death was horrible for Willow, and heartbreaking. But Tara (if we go by what happened to Buffy) was at rest now, and by the last half of series 7, whilst Willow misses Tara, and loved Tara, she is learning how to live without her and moving on with her life.

Saying that, whilst I liked Tara well enough, she was never one of my favourite characters, I would likely feel different if it were one of my favourite characters and there was a chance that they could have returned.
