Tattoo - and not the horrible Russian version

So I think I'm going crazy, but I've finally found something that I wanna tattoo.

Think we've had this discussion before, but need people's opinion's again.

Should I or shouldn't I?

Would you or wouldn't you?
 
Well...I already have! And my advice to anyone who wants a tattoo is this: make sure that it's something you are absolutely in love with, and that you want on your body for the rest of your life. And then-Do it! It hurts like a beast but it is worth it 110%. My tattoo is the best 60 bucks I ever spent. And I'm getting another for my 21st birthday.
 
If you don't mind me asking, what you've got and where?

Oh and I'm thinking about tattooin some text, good bad idea?
 
I have a celtic cross on the right side in the middle of my back: Tattoo and here's a close up.

And a friend of mine has part of a Dylan Thomas poem tattooed on her upper arm, and it works great for her, it looks great and she loves it, so I guess it depends on the text.
 
Yeah. Nice tattoo btw.

A friend and I am thinkin of gettin the same tattooes something that defines our friendship sorta thing. Like a belonging thing.
 
You know I think you're crazy Ape but I also think that if you really feel like you want to do it - Do It. I would have if I wasn't so scared of needles. Think about it for a while, and dont get it somewhere where you'll see it every day. Other than that, it's not a crazy idea in my opinion...
 
The needles thing I'm not looking forward to. I'll probably cry like a baby, I'll get my friend to hold my hand while I sob away.
 
Go for it, but be warned they are addictive. I know, I have 14 of them. Check out whatever tattoo artist and shop that you choose before you do it. Ask lots of questions and ask to see some of their work, and if they dont take sterilized needles out, with fresh gloves... walk out!! When you do get it, post a pic, I would love to see it!!! BTW Anchovy, who did yours? P.S. My sister in law and I got matching tattoos, tribal with the yin and yang colored opposite of one another.

I haven't even gotten one yet, but I already have an idea for two tattooes I wanna do. But then again I'm gonna become an archaeologist so I can be off and have lots and lots of tattooes without anyone finding me more odd than I already am.

Also, Ape, Sd is EXACTLY right. If you don't SEE them take the needle out of a sterilized package and put NEW gloves on, get out right then. Cause, bad.
 
I don't have any tatoos. I'm kinda a wimp with pain.

I say that if it something that you absolutely love, then go ahead and do it. Remeber that you will have it when you are seventy years old, so make sure it's something good.

Yes, they are VERY addictive, I have 5 and I want at least 3 more!

I third SD's comment, most shops have a couple autoclaves where you can see them, and if they're legit, they don't mind if you sit there and watch them work, making sure they are using fresh gloves and clean needles every time. They have a rep to maintain, too. They do hurt, but it's almost like when you have a kid, if it's something you really want, the pain kinda takes on an air of nostalgia afterwards, LOL! You forget about it in a couple months and you're down at the tattoo shop looking for another one! I can't walk by one without stopping in, my hubby knows to make me cross the street when we're going to walk by a tat place, cuz I'm all, "ooooo, tattoo place!" and I'm plunking down money for another one!
 
The pain really isnt that bad, the outline of the tattoo normally stings the most. After that your endorphins kick in and it mainly goes numb. I think that its a "rush or high" that you get because your body is trying to block the pain. Just make sure that what you get is what you want, dont settle because of finances (you will regret it). Get something special that represents you. Also, if you get it on a bony part of the body it does tend to sting a little more. If you have any questions or concerns about it, let me know. Like I said, I have quite a few (all are tasteful and covered by my regular clothes for work purposes) and I dont regret any of them. I do have one in mind to go with my back piece and it will represent Angel, I will get it when I have the time to make sure it heals properly. Best of luck!!!
 
I'm working on an Angel one, too. Just can't get it right, it's frustrating!

I agree tho, JollyApe. Get something that's near and dear to YOU, not something that happens to be the latest fashion, or that looks good hanging on the wall of the tattoo studio.....altho, I do have some like that, I got them because they are things that have always been indicative of MY personality. I don't regret any of them either, and wouldn't change the experience for anything.
 
I think most people regret their tattoos at some point, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have got it. I have a friend who got four tattoos in a year though, and she regrets all but one, and has done so almost since she got them. I really want tattoos (at least one), but it's got to be something that means/represents something to me, but no one else would undstand what it means if I didn't explain it to them. A small word that would mean something to me but not to anyone else. Ape you really should get that tattoo of yours, I've totally changed my mind about you being crazy, just do it, heh.. (Sorry, I'm sick, I rant.)
 
Personally, I would never get a tattoo under any circumstances but it's your skin JA, so take the sound advice given by the other guys and enjoy. The one thing I would add is make sure that you can live with it for the rest of your life...Johnny Depp apparently had a tattoo done reading "Winona" which he had to get changed to "Wino forever" when he split with Ms Ryder 🙂
 
I've got 2 tattoos. One on each ankle. I've a butterfly on one and a fairy sat on a crescent moon on the other one.

I took a long time debating whether to have them, and I don't regret either of them. I first thought about getting a tattoo when I was 16, but didn't get it till I was 21. Then I thought about the fairy one for another 2 years but I got it on New Years Eve in the end.

I think the pain depends on the person, they didn't really hurt me, but I know my friend cried with pain.

I'm trying to decide what to have as my third tattoo.
 
i would absolutly LOVE a tattoo...but i'm terrified of needles, so that's putting me off.
i want 2...an aquarius symbol on my upper arm, and a japanese character on my shoulder blade...saying either 'Faith' or 'Serenity' i can't decide which!
but it might just be a dream, because i don't know if it'd be able to go though with the pain!
 
If I could think of something that would feel personal and really mean something to me I would get one I think, but I wouldn't wanna get one just to have a tattoo. And I think it's a good idea to put it somewhere you could hide it if you want to, at least that's what I would do, so I could kinda choose my moments when to show it..
 
Yeah that's what I'm thinking as well, even though I don't ever plan to end up in a sitauation where I can't show it off.

The more time I give the tattoo idea the more it grows on me and I think I finally after two years of should I shouldn't I, found something that means so much to me that I'll feel comfortable having it for the rest of my life.
