I was on one forum where one guy from Australia was such a huge fan of the band Evanescence that he got their logo tattooed on one ankle, three weeks before the band broke up. The band got back together again but it serves as a warning to anyone wanting a permanent bodily marking - make sure you get something you won't regret later. BTW I have no tattoos and no piercings. I wonder how many people got disco tattoos back in 1980?

I have my ears pierced and I chose that, but I rarely wear earrings now, so usually have to almost redo them whenever I do. I went with my mother to get my nose done, and we both got that done together, but within a few months neither of us actually wore anything in our noses and they've closed up now.

I had considered getting a tattoo when I was younger, but a fear of pain and needles, plus the worry of not liking it meant I never had one done, I doubt I would get one either.

See as someone that loves tats, this is not something I would mind. I have thought of getting a band tattoo for a while now, my favourite band being Nightwish. Now that band has changed lead singers 3x now. They might not even be together in 5 years. I myself might not even like the band in 5 years. But most of my tattoos not only represent something that I love, but they are also to remind me of certain periods of my life. Some of my tats will be timeless, I have a name tattooed on me and I know that name will always mean the world to me. I also have a friendship tattoo with someone that I might not even talk to in a few years, but at some point in my life she meant a lot to me and that won't change. Just like a band made a big difference in my life at some point. A tattoo is permanent, but not every symbol that I put on my body has to be permanent in the "real world".

(mind you if I get a band tattoo it will be symbolic, like a drawing of something that reminds me of the band, so it will be artistically pleasing and not just a logo, but that's personal choice really).

Tattoos can look nice, but they can also look trashy. It depends. And as with most things in life, most people overdo it and/or get them for the wrong reasons, or because they are the popular thing, or for no reasons at all.

I don't have tattoos. I won't lie, I toyed with the idea of sleeves for awhile, but after not being able to come up with something that really meant enough to me to put on my arms, It took too long and I decided eventually that too many people had tattoos and it was too trendy and so I decided no tattoos were better at that point. Literally all of my friends and everyone at the clubs I go to have them now. And I can't stand the idea of following along with the mainstream opinion (everyone has them for a reason) and trends, so that's that.

I find that a scary thought. I only wear makeup if I'm dressing up fancy. I'd hate to not have the ability to see my usual gormless face.

It's cosmetic tattooing. They tattoo the make up onto your skin, it's also called micro-pigmentation.

And it's not only used for make-up, but for example people with birth mark, or burn victims, can get their skin pigmented so that it matched the rest of the skin. Some tattooist specialize in this form of tats.

There are also alot of horror stories for people doing it as well. The lips, eyeshadow and eyeliner gets a lot of complaints.

Live and let live. I have pierced ears. I got them done when I was 16 and paid for it with money from my first job. I don't mind babies with earings, I realize it can be a cultural thing. I wouldn't do it myself because its not part of my culture and so it looks odd to me and mainly because I would want my kid to have that same right of passage to make the choice and go do it themselves. I felt great and have wonderful memories of heading to the mall with my besties to get pierced. Tats don't bother me but I wouldn't get them myself. I just don't feel there is something that I am so sure I'd love forever that I'd love it on me. Can't help but think what I like and consider great to wear permanently etched on my body will change over the years. I don't think employers should discriminate but people make judgement calls every day. I'd recommend tats to be covered by workplace attire if you want to be a lawyer. If you walk in for a job interview in a professional office and have "666" tatooed on your forehead I think you can be pretty sure it'll have a negative impact on your chances to be hired. However if your applying to be a bouncer it might be an advantage.

I can understand it, to a degree, but I'd never get it myself. Make-up, and the putting on of it, is an art and an expression of yourself (I'm really into make-up), so to not be able to wipe the canvas clean, so to speak, is my idea of hell.

I can't even use "lip plumping" beeswax lip gloss because it irritated my lips and they swelled up massively, which isn't actually the desired effect! So naturally I'd worry about cosmetic tattoos.

That's kinda how I thought.. I mean, at the risk of sounding extremely sexist!, but that is one of 'your' benefits in my eyes. Just the ability to really reinvent yourself with different makeup. Facial hair is about the closest thing men have to do that, and it takes too long to grow out or in to really have the same impact. Being able to almost completely change your appearance simply by changing your makeup, I think at least, would be a really cool thing.

The idea of cosmetic tattoos gives me the wiggins! I'm not a massive make-up wearer, I only really wear it when I go out or on special occasions and I like to wear whatever. I don't profess to be any good with putting on make-up, but I like the option to try different things.

I recently discovered shocking red lipstick and found out that even with my colouring, it really suits me! I rock at life.

I've had a few piercings. I had my ears pierced twice but removed one pair and I had the top of my ear done as well but removed that also because I couldn't sleep on it. I also had my belly button pierced but had to remove it when I was pregnant and I haven't bothered putting it back.

I've got 3 tattoos and while I don't regret any of them I do have barbed wire around my ankle and I appreciate it's not appropriate in some circumstances, like when I was a bridesmaid (the bride chose long dresses to hide my tattoo).

My husband has one massive tattoo on his left arm and he has a full sleeve on his right arm. I'm not a fan of his sleeve but only because I don't like the artwork. The tattoo on his left arm is a cover up of his ex girlfriends name 🙂

My situation was loving and wanting tattoos my whole life but it being taboo until I got to be around 40. So, I didn't just get them because everyone was...but until they became acceptable for people my age I held off.

Most of mine are words. I designed all of them myself.

What's your take body art? Do you have any tattoos? Any piercings?

I love body art, I find it such a beautiful way of expressing yourself. I have many plans for the future, but right now I have one tat (my middle name on my lower, inner left arm) and a nose ring and pierced ears, though I very rarely wear earrings. I used to have two lip rings, but took them out years ago for a job and now the holes are closed 🙁

Do you find them offensive? Do you think it's right for employers to discriminate against those who have (visible) tattoos or piercings, be it by lack of promotion and treated differently in the workplace or not being offered a job in the first place?

I definitely don't think it's right when it comes to tattoos, though again it depends on the placement of the tattoos. Thankfully it's not something to worry too much about here in Denmark; my sister is a nurse at a large hospital and she has five tattoos, my brother-in-law, also a nurse, has a full sleeve on one arm, the ink peeking out no matter what shirt he wears. And yet they had no problem getting jobs in the medical industry.

Another question: what's your thoughts on parents getting their baby's ears pierced?

In Denmark it's very common, too. I was actually the odd one out, I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 12. I didn't even ask for permission from my parents, I was just hanging out at the mall with friends and we walked into a jewelry shop. I do regret not getting them pierced, though, I wish I hadn't gotten them done with that disgusting gun they use. I don't wear earrings anymore because it hurts, due to the scar tissue that's built up in my lobes.

I'm very against tattoos. The way I see it is paying someone to scar you for life with a needle. Some of them have legit meanings, and I understand that to a degree, but I would never do it myself. I also just don't find them attractive at all.
Piercings are slightly different. I have no problem with earrings, but I'm not going to get any, and that would be the only piercing a guy could have that isn't ridiculous. On girls, belly button rings or tongue rings can actually be cute, but I'm usually not a fan of nose rings.

I think a small tattoo is nice as long as it has meaning.

Long tattoos down the arms or on the face don't appeal to me.
