I always thought Buffy lost it when she went to the Master 'cause when Xander revived her she didn't pick it up or something but in When She Was Bad she has it on again towards the end......so I don't know..maybe she went to pick it up later. LOL

This episode is good, but it is never followed up. Buffy learns the importance of "doing her homework" .... but in later episodes, she always wines about academics and uses Willow as a crutch.

I have a few issues with this episode...
#1. A preying mantis that is HUGE as hell and can shapeshift into a woman? Really?
#2. What good is human sperm to a Preying Mantis?
This episode is one of the worst of the whole series if you ask me.

I really can't stand this episode. This and the hyena episode are too... stupid for me. I can't stand the concepts when there are worse demons than a giant preying mantis...
Though I love when Willow references the hyena thing in a later episode with Tara. The one where Faith switches their bodies in s4.

I watched this episode just a few minutes ago. Really cool! :thumbsup:
I'd give 7.5/10 i think.... maybe 8...
Oh, and the BC Rich Warlock guitar. It's pretty cool. I play the guitar and played that model a few times. Pretty good, but I prefer the "standard" shapes😀

Wow. I remember watching this episode. No idea why but it always made me cringe a bit. But it was about Xander so...;P. Besides, I always loved the begining with Dr. Gregory and Buffy. How happy she seemed to be that a teacher was being nice to her and taking an interest, I love it.

To me, Teacher's Pet, The Pack and I Robot are some of the worst episodes in season one. They just do nothing for the show really.

One thing I noticed whilst watching this episode again during a recent run through of the show was, and not that this is necessarily a bad thing but certainly a curiosity, was that Dr. Gregory must've been a virgin, otherwise Miss French wouldn't have mated with him.
Me and my best friend were discussing this, and he said that maybe she didn't mate with him, and just killed him to take his place in the class, but personally there would be too many loose ends if that were the case. For one, his head was bitten off, which was explicitly stated that the mantis does during mating, and the infamous "hatching eggs" at the end of the episode were in Dr. Gregory's classroom, just yards away from where he was presumeably killed (Buffy found his glasses on the floor right by the cupboard containing the eggs).
Long-winded, I know, but still, something I had never noticed before until now!

Eh, Teacher's Pet was pretty ridiculous. I mean, the whole plot was pretty contrived and really, a preying mantis? Although, the whole thing with the bat sonar tape and on one side it was Giles reading a book or something - classic joke!
I Robot You Jane - I like this episode! I'm a big G/J shipper and it introduces Jenny Calendar so I'm a little biased. But besides the awesome dialog and on-screen chemistry between Giles and Jenny, I thought it wasn't so bad keeping in mind it was 1997. I mean, not everyone even know what exactly the internet really was so to have this over-the-top trope of "internet boyfriend isn't who he says he is" was pretty appropriate. Not to mention the whole old demon folklore meets the new generation of technology idea was pretty cool. I mean, is it cheesy? Yes, but I think anything from the late 1990's is allowed to be.

I don't think Buffy relied on Willow all the time for her homework. I remember she did enough good in school and Joyce even thought about college, you know..She certainly wasn't always getting high grades but we have to consider she had other, more important things in mind. If Buffy wasn't the Slayer, she would've been an excellent, her SATs. results were awesome..she could've reached a higher academic level. Of course Willow helped her sometimes and they studied together but that's only normal between friends and maybe Buffy tried to imitate Willow in her study system.
