Teaser Trailer for HBO's Westworld

HBO's new show is based on the film of the same name by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park) and is being produced by JJ Abrams and Jonathan Nolan among others.

I'm a massive fan of Crichton's books and the Westworld film and I think the trailer looks great.

I didnt bother watching it as they said it was a teaser... holy cow. Maybe it was worth the wait. It was supposed to have been done a year ago, and then with the people let go at HBO they had tabled it, then they brought it back again and now that. That looks amazing.

I think Nolan is quite underrated, probably because he's kind of in the shadow of his older brother, but he has written some really excellent stuff. I haven't watched Person of Interest, though. I should probably check it out. Also because of Amy Acker 🙂

Am half way through season 3 now and am hooked. Its fantastic and as a Acker fan you would not be disserpointed🙂

I agree on Nolan too, because I suspect that he's better at script writing than his older brother.

I think that comparison is pretty good. The film from '73 focuses on the two human characters that are on vacation in Westworld when, suddenly, the robots begin to behave differently. It's kind of like Jurassic Park but with robots and was probably Crichton's inspiration for making his dinosaur project about a theme park.
The TV show, however, seems to focus less on the humans (at least from what we can see in the trailer) and more on the artificial intelligence and some of the robotic characters that are slowly beginning to realize that they're not human and that they're living in an artificial environment, which is a lot like Echo in Dollhouse. I think that's a pretty cool twist and I'm very excited.

I never realized how apropos it was to Europes' trying to get workers rights for robots. It's a reality crossover!

Sounds pretty good to me. And with it being serelised for television I think they can really build on that premise.

I just hope they learned something after Game of Thrones. Deadwood, Carnivale, John from Cincinnati and now Vinyl all still leave a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to HBO and their bailing out on projects early. Their agreeing to 5 seasons means nothing when they just cancel after 3, 2 or 1.

Not just canceling it but denying Knauf to finish the story out as a comic. They had no intention of ever doing anything else with the show but could not stand to see anyone else make money on it or the fans get a satisfying ending. I think it pissed me off more than just cancelling it. They had everything geared up for a comic run and at the last minute HBO said no. Grr.

Why did you include GOT? I thought that was on its fifth season?

Because they allowed Game of Thrones to continue despite low ratings in season one and an expensive cost to produce it. There were whispers it might be canceled.

Yeah, I read about that. Didn't he release some details of his plans for what would have been in the upcoming seasons, quite recently (a few years ago)? I'm sure he said he had to cut out a lot of story and characters at HBO's request after low ratings. He had some amazing ideas. Eff. You. HBO.

Yeah, he did. Everyone went their separate ways but then after a few years Hawkins called them back and they went around collecting everyone. Jonesy lived by the way. Hawkins was to turn into the big bad the way it was going.

So shouldn't be giving HBO credit for that then? A lot of networks would have pulled the plug. Besides we're always prising the HBO model, but the moment they make one screw up or cancel a show you like, their like the worse thing ever. That sounds a bit fickle to me.

Well I know that Six Feet Under and Wire are two of your favourite shows and without HBO they wouldn't exist. And besides its all about opinions. For some those shows you listed might be rubbish or even if they are good maybe they didn't have long self-lives beyond one or two seasons.

Fair, enough, but I just find yours and Pole's reactions a bit over the top. And the thing is ratings are a factor for any network. Its a sad fact but no one can be immure. Whether they they should be is another matter.
