You are incorrect. When each subscriber pays $20 a month just to access HBO and there are no advertisers looking at ratings then ratings, in themselves should not matter. Pay channels are premium channels because they offer premium content which you cannot find on commercial television, thus ratings should not apply, only the number of subscriptions.And the thing is ratings are a factor for any network.
Not really. It was only after word of mouth of the ending of the first season that people really started to pay attention. The first season was in the low 2's. That's a prime cancellation number for HBO.I'm pretty sure that GoT has always had good ratings.
