Teen Pregnancy and Abortion

It depends on the person and the situation, i mean accidents happen, things fail...health complications, there's been cases where one or the other won't live...it should always be a tough choice, and it will either way be something that that person and those around them have to deal with.
i don't anyone should force anyone else to have an abortion, but i don't think it should be forbidden.
hey WW, how old was your mom when you were born? not to be rude, but think of how many great people would not be because of that, we might be little more than cave people if no one under 30 was allowed to have kids. wait scratch that, if that was around back then, with an average age of 20-30, we wouldn't be.
can you explain your reasoning for this to me? maybe i'll be able to understand it a little more. and you do know that it is healthier to have the first kid in 20's than later in life right? not that its deadly or anything but...
population control....trying to weed something out? or just worried that the world can't support us all like this? yea the world hasn't been able to support us since the cave people. we're a very demanding race. its never gonna be quite enough till its all gone. overall, not per person or for everyone but the world as a whole
If its really wanted or needed, and the person knows what they are doing, they're nto being forced then, let them make the decision. there's always adoption as well...
having kids young doesn't always ruin a life, it does take away a lot of oppurtunities, but it also gives other ones, there's pros and cons to everything. i can't nor do i try to speak for everyone, but it is a decision that should be made for each individual case, and they should at least try to reach a consensus, not directing this at anyone, but say the dad wants the mom doesnt, or vice versa, try to work something out or something...

I actually think that my mandatory abortion age should be raised to 30. We have enough problems with population control, and this would help with that.

But dont people have a right to choose if they want kids or not...What if they're like 18 and in stable finance and have a husband already? Dont they have the right to have a baby? If the baby had could be supported dont you think it should have a chance at a happy life? Yes Teenage pregnancy is wrong but it happens and it is our mistake... but saying that it should be mandatory to have an abortion before 30... Well thats not gonna stop teens from having sex... Thats just gonna refuse one more life... what if that child will grow up and find a cure for cancer... and if that child isn't born jsut cause its mandatory that the mother had to have an abortion that a cure isn't found for another 50 years...Every time a woman gets an abortion could be the difference between us one day finding cures for diseases in the future...

Maybe 30 is a bit high. I'll go back to 22. Yes, while you could have as many kids as you want later, it's more likely that you'll be smart enough by then to realize that you shouldn't just procreate like mad. The world is crowded enough as it is. I don't like sharing my resources with a bunch of useless infants.

they might be useless now but just think when ur on your death bed one of those useless infants might be saving your life and letting you live for a couple years longer

I get your logic, but when you're preganant not all girls think how special and talented these babies can be,rather in how deep trouble they are now and what to do next.....I really don't think that even an 18-year old girl is ready t have a child..There might be some exceptions, but still...But I don't WatcherWes's idea is a good one either...

My take on the whole teenage pregnancy issue, is that it's a shame, I strongly believe teenagers shouldn't have sex to begin with. Only for the simple fact that there are SO many emotions, feelings, that are going through you ALL at once. Also, your body is still growing, there are parts that are not fully developed. When you're a teenager, that should be the last thing to think about doing, you're just not mature enough....Abortion, hmm....well, I myself am against it, except for instances like rape, incest, or if it's going to kill both the mother & child in the process of labor. But it makes me sick that there are actually women out there who just use abortion as birth control. I think we should gather each & every one those women, tie them to a chair with barbed wire, get lots & lots of gasoline, light some matches, & dance around the fire, holding hands, while singing kumbaya!!!<<<<sorry if that was too gruesome, I couldn't help myself, got a little carried away!!

First of all I have to say that it is rather disappointing that there even are such things as teenage pregnancies. There are so many means available to avoid unwanted pregnancy at all!

Sexual activity should come with responsibility and maturity. If a girl decides to become sexually active she should discuss this with someone she can trust first and talk about prevention methods. Don't tell me about counting days or measuring temperature, because it is nonsense. Talk to a friend, your GP or if you are lucky enough to be able to, to your mother. Particularly as today pregnancy is not the only danger that comes with unprotected sex!

Abortion is a choice and in certain circumstances the only one. Nobody should judge a woman who made the decision! However, having unprotected sex just because there is always the option of abortion is not the right approach.

In general, speaking as a mother who talks about these things with her daughter, an open minded discussion with a family member is still the way to go. My daughter has been sexually active since she was 16 and it was me who took her to the GP to get the pill prescribed. I don't want her to ruin her adult life before she had a good chance to enjoy it.

Yup, useless. But they'll be deciding on how you'll be taken care of in you old age at some point, either directly as a doctor (or your kid), or indirectly by supporting (or not) health care reforms. They grow up to pay the taxes you'll get back in services as a senior...or maybe they'll cut you off and let you eat out of a dumpster...careful what you wish for, my friend, you might just get it. And who said 22 yr olds would be smarter in that respect? I know some 13 yr olds who are more mature than many 22 yr olds I've met. Are you prepared to let "the government" make that type of decision? Have you seen some of the defective idiots we've elected to office in some of the countries represented here on the boards? You want them to make these decisions? How 'bout NO!

Very much in agreement with KillerD at this point. Not telling the 13 yr olds to go out and get pregnant obviously but there are some who are more mature than some of the MPs we have running for election and stuff! I certainly don't want Tony Blair making these decisions for me!

watcher Wes I find your comment rather ironic when you look at the current population crisis in the UK; the number of OAP's has risen to the point where there aren't enough working people to continue to support the current public pension scheme, a situation that could lead to a primary infrastructure failure less than 20 years down the line.

Perhaps we should allow all teenage pregnancies, and instead have a rule for culling anyone, oh say, over 35, that way we would constantly have a steady stream of employment and workers, without having to worry about those pesky old people who just want to scrounge off the state (message tone: irony. OAp culling rule:simply as arbitrary as mandatory abortion in the under 22s. result: brave New World-esque stupidity 😀 )

I've never thought about abortion to save the mother and the baby whou would die anyway. Hm. Yeah, that's what the girl in my grade is doing. She's using at a birth control. Everytime she gets pregnant, her brother pays for the abortion. In her case, I'd say that it's a good thing she gets the baby aborted because there's a good chance the baby would die or come out handicapped with her. She does drugs, smokes and drinks, and doing that while your pregnant messes up the growing fetus.

I think there's a law that says you can only get an abortion up to a certain time. I think it's like after 4 months you can't get an abortion. Does anyone know if that's true?

i just wanna clear out that i'm not pro abortion, but i'm not in favor of letting some irresponsible girl who clearly doesen't want to have or ven love the baby to have him..the same goes to people who doesen't have the means to provide to him.. i just don't see the point of having another child dying of hungry or living a missrable and unhappy life..we already have too many like that already..
i agree, teen sex has to came w/ responsibily.. i'm 18, and i know i'm nowere ready for that.. and i thinkl most of the girls who do it, are not because they are mature enough for, but because of the boyfriend, the pression of friends..etc..but then again there are 18 very responsible girls..i just don't think it's the bigger part..
and i am a huge feminist (have to in a place where men still boss aroud) but i have to say that girls have to be double responsible than the boys..they are the ones who would carry the "blame" to the society, they are the ones who would carry the baby..so i say yes to a voting poll (referend) only for women in the abortion thing..

I just have to comment on something I have noticed, and that's how people seem to think that you only get pregnant with unsafe sex. Most birth control isn't 100% safe. But not all teenagers know that. Meaning that they think it's safe, but it isn't, cos they don't have enough information. Does that make them irresponsible? I just wanted to comment on it. Many teenagers will get pregnant even if they take precautions.

I'm not sure of the exact month count, but I'm sure there is a law that says that you can only abort a fetus before a certain time in the pregnancy.

Just a note, because this can be a touchy subject. Please, try to be respectful with your opinions and do not make comments that are pruposely hurtful (watcherwes!!! Oops...did I name names?). Have respect for your fellow posters or I'll happily shut what could be a very thoughtful discussion down in a heartbeat. Just to let you know...

or maybe rather than increasing the population further, we allow higher immigration rates from places like India and China. Adds to the workforce without increasing the overall population.

I really believe it should be the mother's decision. No offense to any of you guys out there, but it's alot easier for you to be against abortion because, in reality you CAN walk away. It may not be the right thing to do, but you can, women can't... and even safe sex isn't always 100% safe, so pregnancy is still a problem....I think it really should be the mother's choice...those of you women against it, never have to get an abortion if you don't want, but I think others should have the right....

Just to make my opinion clearer, in case I didn't say it before, my beliefs about abortion are what I would do-which doesn't mean squat to other people. I DEFINITELY think that people should be allowed to make that choice, and I am strongly pro-choice, because you never know the situation surrounding the pregnancy.

My view isn't clear at all because I really don't know how I'd feel about the subject. I mean, I believe people should have the choice on whether they wanna have the baby or not, but I don't wanna see innocent babies get killed. It's like...blah! I'm gunna get a head ache. I'm pro-choice...I'll just stick with that.

People have talked about the mother's making the choice. Let's say that I get someone pregnant in the next three years and she wants to get an abortion but I wanna keep the baby. Would you automatically say the choice is up to the girl or would you think both of us would have to deside?

I think if your truely going to stick around and help out that the guy has a choice in it aswell but some guys also chicken out in the end and she is alone with the baby and no guy to help her out... But if the guy is truely gonna stay around no matter what then ya he has a say in the matter..
