So, I'm in the market for a new tv. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Does anyone connect their computer to their tv? Anything special I should know about how to do that?

Depends entirely on how big you want your TV.

In fact, everything relies on this subject. Massive=Projection, huge=Plasma, big= LCD. Computers give you ultimate freedom which is why I went that route, but it relies on you knowing what your doing.

For most, i recommend a 42-50 odd inch SONY Bravia, of which there are many models. Colour wise I think sony are amazing. Plasma definately gives you deeper blacks while LCD gives you better motion control (less blurring or ghosting). On my own experience I have a sony KDL series and a ACER LCD computer monitor...each with little between them. At this stage though, run down to Best Buy and you'll notice there is very little between the top models.. all it comes down to is price...just know there are so many awesome displays at great prices that price isn't everything. Newegg.com is a great place for honest reviews while your shopping too.

We did a lot of research when we were looking for a tv. It seemed that a lot of the flat panels had crappy crappy pictures. We found a plasma tv from Panasonic the has a thx picture or something that is really good. It's a good one, I really like it.

I'm probably looking at more of a 32" for price reasons.

If you want specifics, then KDL-32V4000 imo. Of course there are both cheaper and more expensive options worth considering.
We bought a 32" Sony Bravia and found it a little bit too big for our living room (so I suggest you think about how it would fit in the room where you watch it) but it is a real step up from our old CRT set. I absolutely love watching stuff in HD, even though ours is 720 rather than 1080 full HD. BBC nature progs are especially awesome...gorgeous visuals and a David Attenborough commentary...what's not to love?

When we were looking to change Samsung and LG were the makes that were recommended to me as the best...with the likes of Sony and Panasonic close behind. We went for the Sony 'cos we got a real good deal on the price in the January sales.

Connecting the 'puter up was a piece of cake. The PC laptop needed very little tweaking in XP and the Mac just did it. If I had the inclination I could probably get HD running from the Mac fairly easily but I'm happy to settle for ordinary telly 🙂 It's mainly a matter of getting the right cables between the 'puter and TV for the set-up you want. I use an S-video output from the Mac into a SCART socket adapter on the TV for video and a separate sound cable from the headphone socket which plugs into the SCART adapter as well...it was a Belkin cable set and they seem to have other sets for different connections.

We've recently just bought a 32" Panasonic wide screen TV and its just perfect for our living room. When we were looking we had to consider size more than anything to start off with as you don't want anything that will be too big or too small for the room you want to place it in. Then of course next is to consider the make and the price it depends how much your willing to spend on a new TV but I'd say most of the top brands going like Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and LG are really well made it just depends which retail outlet you want to buy from. Even Argos (if your English) has some really good prices going.
 
i have a 26" plasma in my bedroom and i just connect my comp and my laptop to it,
you need a certain cable thing to connect it,
 
Actually, cables have been duly mentioned in this thread but they're no small issue, I did work for a little while as a tv service salesman (lol moment!) and I often found people had no clue about the level of picture quality that was available to them. If your using scart (uk) or RGB 3-way connections then you are most certainly missing out if you have a 720p or 1080 monitor. Simply because... both those connections do not support that resolution. If you are going as far as upgrading your TV, at least upgrade your connections so you are utilising the best available source.

Sorry, if this if fairly obvious to some, but simply getting a HD TV is not enjoying HD entertainment

haha, I know all about how important cables and your connections are - my dad was a sound man, he's always going on about cables. :P
Silum is correct about the cables...HDMI cables or similar are needed for HD viewing.
