"Ten Grossest" Award

zapping the brain with those hospital paddle things until the eyes sizzle and go popft in 'diary of the dead' grossed me out

In a couple of film classes, they showed us an old silent film in which an eye was sliced open with a scalpel -- in extreme close-up. I don't remember the movie, but BOY, do I remember the image. It was without a doubt the grossest filmed eye injury I have ever seen. I know they showed it in film and censorship (for obvious reasons). I think they also showed it in another class during a lecture on special effects. Xander doesn't even compare.

I believe the film you're talking about is Un Chien Andalou. We got shown the same silent-movie-shocker in my film class! Haha.
I remember seeing a performance of King Lear on stage. I'm not sure what they used but the first few rows of the audience were treated to the gauged remants of Gloucester's eye....it was disgusting.

Some friends of mine did something like that with peeled grapes in honey to get the shape and sticky fluid effect.
I can't stand any kind of eye carnage. It gives me the wiggins.
Same from me. Just reading this thread grosses me out. From the first time I've read about the scene palabra mentioned, I swore to myself never to watch Chien Andalou. *goosebump shivers*

Ditto. And stay well away from that movie. Trust me. It scarred me for life.
Un Chien Andalou is a classic. It pushed boundaries that were completely unheard of in the 1920's movie making industry. But still, it's not one of those things you can easily un-see after you've seen it, especially if you don't have the stomach for horror flicks. I have the stomach, and the eye-cutting scene is just too much for me. Even though it was the eye from a cow, and the cow was dead, it's still too much. I think it's something to do with the mutilation of such a vital, frail organ. In anatomy class, I have no problem discovering the different layers of tissue, but it's a bit grotesque for shock effect on film. Which I guess was the thing Dali was going for - reality was a perceptive event, and surreality is always lurking just under the surface.

Btw - that videotape in "The Ring" gives me the uber wiggins every time. I cannot watch it.

And yeah, I totally have issues with watching Xander get his eye jabbed out. Makes me just hurt for the guy. Makes me need a hug.

The 28 Weeks later one is the grossest one ive seen. it was sick, to his own wife..
