Ten Years of Fandom

Ten years ago, my friends were watching Buffy but I refused because I was under the ridiculous assumption that I wouldn't like it.

I only discovered Buffy 5-6 years ago, in 2005, and the fandom only about 4 years ago. The fandom has given me so much, and helped increase my love for this show tenfold. I am so grateful to have discovered you all! In ten years, I'm sure I'll still read on fic here and there, and probobly log onto the boards everyone once in a while to keep up with the latest news, but I doubt I'll be as active as I am now.

Some day I'd like to write a book on televison, and you can bet I'll be including Buffy in that 🙂

Ten years ago, I remember being in 8th grade and seeing Tara get shot. I cried. I always watched Buffy while on the phone with my friend Chelsea. We rooted when Willow killed Warren, and cried over Tara.

In ten years, I know I'll still love Buffy. But who know if I'll be as active in the fandom as I am now. But I know, when I look back on it, I'll have a lot of great memories of this place, the fandom itself, and all the people with which I've connected because of this fandom. Buffy's done more than give me entertainment and life lessons. I've met some of my best friends purely because of Buffy.

Wow, 10 years ago I suppose I was 6 years old. I had a rather large love for a little mermaid named Ariel and had already been to three schools even though I hadn't been in school for very long. I was in no way ready to jump into the Buffy universe and my mother would have never let me near it. I spent many hours missing my best friend that I had moved away from and being almost too shy to make new friends. Anecdote--at my first school (I was only there about ten weeks) it was a small class of about seven students and we had these mail boxes that we made out of paper. We were supposed to send letters to each other. Everybody else got letters all the time...I never even got one. I was such an outcast, man.

In ten years I will be twenty-six or so. I hope to not be quite such an outcast as I was. I hope to be in a serious relationship, or a relationship of some kind. Perhaps have a kid already, I don't know. However, I hope to be an avid member of the Buffy fandom still. I don't like to think that it could be just a phase. I truly hope not. I also hope to be introducing my husband/boyfriend etc and kids (when they're old enough) to the show. Yep.

10 years ago I was watching Buffy and Angel and buying the magazine every month. I loved reading the magazine and finding out what was happening in the show and with the cast.

10 years from now, I hope to have moved and gone to more conventions, hopefully met more BB members, as you're all so great to meet.

Ten years ago... I was watching BtVS and Angel religiously every Thursday night. I had a freak out around this time because our cable got cut and I missed a large chunk of season 6. Although I used the Internet a lot of the time it was for Star Wars fandom or blend challenges. I had about 3 MSN groups that I ran (don't know if anyone can remember them) and I was really into web design and music too. I find it strange that in the peak of my Buffy obsession I never though to find any fellow Buffy fans on the net :/

In ten years time... I'll be 34. Hoping to be married with my own house and kids. Settled in my career. I'm hoping this board will still be here do I can come back to it occasionally and relive my youth. I think I'll still be watching Buffy and have an interest in it still, although I'm sure it'll look pretty dated by then.

10 years ago, I was 17. Still watching Buffy. I hadn't watched Angel at the time. I didn't have anyone to really talk to about the show. When I started talking about a character to my mother and she realized it was just a character on the show, she wanted me to talk about REAL people and real things...

But for me, the characters are very real!

10 years from now, I'll be 37. I'll still be a Buffy/Angel fan. May still have my job at the library.haha. I'm not sure what else.
