Terrorist Attacks on London

I went through a few emotions over the last couple of days - disbelief, shock, outrage, rage, relief that my friends' son was OK, pride, disgust, total lack of understanding as to why people could do this to innocent civilians. I was very pleased to see the British Muslim leaders condemn this terrible act. It seems that if Muslims died as well it doesn't matter to these barbarians, as they were obviously not good Muslims or they were the wrong kind of Muslim...and there was me thinking Christians were pretty screwed up...If this is what faith and belief results in I'm glad to be agnostic...my thoughts go out to the families of the victims and the members of the emergency services who dealt so well with it all.

There IS a difference between faith and fanaticism.

You are, of course, quite right and I would never dream of dissing anybody's faith (I definitely wouldn't dis our Faith - she's far too scary :))
It was a sad day, but then again somehow it filled me with a lot of hope. We all knew that something like this was gonna happen, just like they said it wasn't a question about if, but when. And the way the authorities have handled this is good. Unlike 9/11 (which on the other hand was bigger and more of an surprise, but still) there is no chaos, it feels as if they actually know what and how to do things. There's no blind panic well there probably were some blind panic for the ones involved, but not on a large scale.

So even though it might sound strange this attack filled me with a sort of hope and optimism, that even though they might fight our way of living they're not gonna kill it. You can't turn back time 1500 years, that's just an impossibility and there are way to many of us lovin this way of life.

I know exactly what you mean. My friend from Kent wrote this.

So how many of them caused this thing? Four, one for each bomb? Maybe fewer if the bombs were planted in advance? A few more, to help out but not be anywhere near the explosions? At any rate, a handful. A mere handful of damaged, deluded creatures.

And how many hundreds or thousands of people were at their best today? The emergency services dealing with a series of terrible events with no notice. Hundreds of men and women trying to help and save others. Doctors and nurses in the hospitals. Random strangers, helping people out of tube stations, reassuring each other, passing round bottled water.

Everything from trying to save a life by the side of the road to lending a stranger a mobile phone. A sudden reflex tightening of the bonds of humanity.

And that's what you're up against, you ****ers. You're up against humanity. And there are billions of us.

I agree, it was a horrible thing to happen, but I'm really happy to hear of the voulenteers and positive response. It's amazing what people do when something like this happens, it kind of gives hope in our messed up world.

I was SO shocked to hear what happened, I've never been to London (or Europe at all) but still, when I saw the pictures on the news I was horrifyed and wished that I could be there helping out in some way or another. My heart goes out to all of you in London, my prayers are with you, and I hope that you are all alright!!! :girl_hug: :love0:

Well, I was actually on the district line when it happened. At about 08:50 our train came to a sudden stop and the driver, a very nice Australian, told us we would be delayed because of a "power explosion" further ahead. We inched foward for about 15 mins before getting off at Embankment station. It was only later that I started to realise how lucky I was that I wasn't on my usual line, the Picadilly line.

Myself and a friend left work at 5pm to try to find a way to Wembley, where we both live. As the tube was down, we walked for 30 minutes to Euston station, which was a surreal experience. There were thousands walking to the station, and at every bus stop there were hundreds more waiting for buses that simply didnt arrive. Every two minute or so a convoy of police cars and vans would screeh by at full speed with all sirens going. The tension you felt when they went by was palpable, and people were worried they were going to stop and tell you to evacuate. When we got to Euston station, five fully loaded police vans suddenly rushed up to the station, and we thought, "thats it" they are going to bomb Euston.

It was a false alarm, and we managed to squeeze onto a mainline train service to Wembley. It was an amazing experience on that train. You had white, black, brown, English, Scottish, Indian, Russian, Pakistani, Polish, American, Nigerian, German all trying to get home. It really does show that an attack on London is an attack on the world.

And rather than stay in on Friday, I got up early and I went in to work. I was a little nervous taking the tube, but I'm not going to let those bastards make me cower in fear.

Assuming the bombers did what they did in the name of Islam - Islam forbids the the spilling of innocent blood, irrespective of creed, and these men are not Muslims in any recognisable interpretation. Cowards, hiding their intentions behind somebody else's banner.

Incredible reaction by the people of London. As said above, humanity at it's best.

At my workplace we observed a two minutes silence in respect of the people who died (as did many others throughout the UK). As requested by Ken Livingstone (Mayor of London) we took it outside to the street. What I couldn't believe was the be-suited arsehole who walked passed our office, stopped for a beat to look at the 100 or so people gathered to pay their respects and then continued yakking away (very loudly) to his bloody mobile phone...if I hadn't been in the middle of a two minute silence I would've cursed him soundly...some people have no respect or manners...grrrr!

Disgusting

It's such a load of Nonsense isn't it. How people try to justify the Killing of people. It's sick and disgusting. There is no religion in the world, that says killing innocent people is right. So I just don't understand how people can say it's fine to do this.Okay so it's is disgusting what is happening is Iraq. Women and Children are being killed. But two wrongs don't make a right somehow. The people who get most affect from this are the common everyday moderate Muslims who simply want to get on with life and not think about such rubbish deeds. They get blamed for this when it's no there fault. You can't blame the Germans for what they did to the Jews. Coz it wasn't the Germans. It was the Nazi's. Completley different.
So a little Paragraph to the Terrorists.

So you think your brave and Courageous by doing this. You think you are helping all you Muslim brothers and sisters in the world. Your not your making it worse. It was going so well before September the 11th the world was getting together and before the London Bombing. Everybody was waiting to see what would happen to the G8 summit. But you have to ruin it. The Prophet of Islam Muhammad (Peace be upon him) once said that there will be people like this. They will be the dogs of hell, they will start chaos and panic and make life worse for the Muslims instead of making it better. Looks like they are here. However they think that they are going to Paradise. BIG MISTAKE. You are going to hell. You think your going to get away with that never.

i dont think we have, in fact I think there is a possivbility that they may increase rapidly due to copycat type attacks, I think its disgusting as charisma said no religion justifies killing, so for these people to try and justify there acts by doing them in the name of their religion is an insult to muslims accross the world.

I just hope some people dont react out of fear ad turn of muslims generally for revenge and although I faith that we are a more or less intelligent society, it still worries me that if we have people who wish to commit these crimes then there may be other people in our society who will want to retalliate and cause the suffering of more innocent people, leading us into an infinite regress of suffering

That'll probably happen though, I mean at least some people will react like that, I really hope I'm wrong but yea...

Twice doesn't really make it worse I guess, but it definitely makes it scarier.. A lot scarier in my opinion...
