I saw the old, original version of it the other day (v. creepy and disturbing!) and my mate was telling me a lot about the new version cos she saw it a while ago. I was wondering if anyone had seen both of them and which one they thought was better.

The way my mate was explaining it, it sounded like the new one was full of typical hollywood horror (otherwords jumpy but no scare, and poor storyline) and has blonde bimbos in it, the sort who 'investigate strange noises' instead of running out the door.

So anyone know which one was better?
 
I never saw either, wanted too...but it sux not being 17(or having a license at the time...*shifty eyes*) seriously though, I bet both movies were probably exagerated from what really happened....but you never know for sure

but I agree about the hollywood horror, it's so lame it's funny
 
i dunno, i remeber the one with the cjeap graphics and all lol
but i wanted to see the new one.. guess its gunna wait till it comes out in my nearest video store 😀
 
Haven't seen the new one but out of respect for the classic horror movie I doubt that it could ever compare to the original. The original was just great. Of course I was also like 10 when I saw it so...
 
I love classic horror movies. The seventies produced some of the best horror ever: Dawn of the Dead, Suspiria, The Hills Have Eyes, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Jaws (hey, it scared the crap outta me!).

But I always thought that the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre kinda sucked. So at least the remake isn't exactly violating sacred text. Now, when the remake of Dawn of the Dead comes out next summer, I'm gonna be one angry horror purist! THAT is untouchable material!! 🙂
 
I haven't actually seen any of those other 70's horrors you just mentioned. Though I thought 'The Blob' was an amazingly funny and 'lame in a funny way' horror film.
 
I saw the new one and I have to say... its full of cheap scares, extra characters. etc... it has its moments where you think "Run Girl Run!!!!" and its been a while since I've been put in that situation... Think it was Eliza in Wrong Turn that had me doing that last 😀

Cannae remember the orignal but I do remember a disturbing scene involving supper time 🙂

Oh and interesting fact about one of the Producers of the new version, he's actually on the board against violence in film.. .how Ironic 😀
 
LMFAO! Are you serious First Evil?! Wow, That's so sad...what a hypocrite! LOL! Silly men will sell their souls for nothing more than a shiny nickel...and I will keep them...
 
Actually my hubby and some friends of ours just rented the original one about 2 weeks ago..they had never seen it, I hadn't seen it for about 15 years...let's just say we had a good laugh!
 
I'v only seen the newest one so I can't really compare the two. I saw the older one at best buy and I wanted to get it but I was shopping for my brothers birthday not mine 🙁

LazyDolphin: My mom bought 'the hills have eyes' and she wanted me to see it cause she said it scared her so much when she saw it so I had to see it and when i did I laugh so much.
 
Older movies are dated compared to todays gore fests but they're still enjoyable... 😛 Look at the likes of Waxwork, Childs Play, Nightmare On Elm St.... they wouldn't strike much fear into the hearts of youngsters these days but back in the day, they were indeed the dogs dangly bits 😀
