'That Freaky Chruch on Sunset'

In the episode with Spike and the Gem of Amara, when Angel's talking to the girl in the abusive relationship, and tells her to have fatih. She replies by asking if he's from that freaky church.

Is the freaky church, the one from Anne at the start of Btvs Season 3?

I googled Sunset Avenue (which is what I'm assuming was meant) and church, and this came up: http://sunsetavenue.org/.

The show could be referencing that or maybe it was just a throw away comment.

I'd never noticed it before, but it does make sense, they do try and insert a few intertextual references into Angel from that episode, as made evident by the opening sequence

I always thought it was the one from "Anne", too. 🙂 That line made me laugh the first time I heard it, because that's what I immediately jumped to. It could just be a throw-away line, though, 'cause churches can be pretty freaky sometimes. LOL
