is celebrating it's birthday today. This is the one day of the year where Americans must pretend to be patriotic and all that stuff so they can enjoy some beer and fireworks. So, Americans, take a hint from our hillbilly friends and wave your flags. And non-Americans, laugh at us, join us, mock us, or whatever you feel like doing because I love ya.

Happy birthday America!
My stepdad was american so we always did 4th of July stuff when I was growing up, always involved pinyatas but I never knew why. Actually I never asked questions, I just ate the free cake and danced around with sparklers. Do you get a long weekend for it? Im having a beer right now specially for the 4th of July (or maybe for lunch, I havent decided yet).

Aussie - if you want to celebrate July 4th go into the city. There are thousands of American Sailors in town and all the pubs have American flags up for them.

(Australia kisses Americas arse?! NEVER!)

Oh jesus, the soilders did cross my mind. Glad I stayed out of freo tonight!!
Happy Fourth of July to all our American friends...I hope you all have a great day :usa2:

Happy We're Not British Day, my fellow Americans! XD To quote Neil Gaiman: "Now off to bed on this, We Made The Colonies Independent and Let Them Spell Colour, Axe and Aluminium with Missing Letters Day."

colour, axe, and aluminium... you ordered the missing letters in rising degrees of annoyingness. *pretends never to have heard of a different way to write ALUMINIUM*
I'll celebrate while working my ass off for 8 and a half hours at Starbucks today.

And if anyone so much as complains about waiting for their drink, I am so inclined to tell them "Let me put it this way, sir. As soon as you get your drink, you can leave and go celebrate and do whatever you want to. Me, on the other hand, I'm stuck here until we close. So don't complain."

I love the Fourth, I really do. I just am not looking forward to this afternoon/evening. 😛

P.S. Happy Independence Day!

I find the first post kind of disrespectful, but HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Revolver disagrees: Sure, you were laughing at Michael Jackson the very day he died but I'm disrespectful for goofing around about a day on a calendar.

I have friends and family and MANY of us do, fighting for our country. I respect this country and what it stands for. People who make fun of it are ridiculous. I laughed when Michael Jackson died because I really have no respect for child molesters.
(Please don't try to tell me he wasn't, I'm almost positive he was and regardless of if he was or wasn't, it's what I believe and why I think he got what he deserved.)

Why don't you speak for yourself. A lot of us ARE patriotic. People fight for this country every day of their lives and it really isn't a joke.

People make fun of it every single day. THAT was the entire point of the joke I made in the first thread. For this one day, people who normally would merely talk about how they hate the government and would like to live somewhere else suddenly are flag wavers because they want to see fireworks and get drunk with their buddies.

And key phrase on Michael Jackson, you BELIEVE he was a child molester. One of the key foundations of the legal system of this country you apparently have so much respectful for is innocent until proven guilty. Michael Jackson was cleared twice, and the evidence against him is mixed at best. You don't know he was a child molester any more than I do, or anyone here does. Your opinion on the subject is colored by media coverage, and years of hearing jokes. Way worse than me making an America joke. After all, I'm American. If you can't make fun of yourself, you're probably taking yourself too seriously.

Oh, get off your high horse. I'm a vet, I'm married to a vet, both my parents and various other relatives are/were vets and I STILL think Revolver's post was funny. Part of being AMERICAN is that we're allowed to voice our opinions/poke fun at being American. You don't agree, that's fine...but don't say Revolver is ridiculous because he voiced an opinion that you don't agree with.

The holiday, after all, IS called Independance Day.

I read your post and when you said Vet, I though you meant animal doctor, and was like ???, then it clicked!

I'm not on a high horse so don't go telling me to get off one. I don't care how many of your family members are vets. I found it offensive.

Kean agrees: You'll melt!!!

Happy Independence Americans!!! I want to be having a mass party today...booo!! Have fun, and I want ALL of you to have a drink for me, so in theory I should be pretty merry later! 😛
