I'm about to embark on an interesting life choice.
I am going to write and perform a stand-up routine for local clubs and I need a name.

Now, my real name is Alister Jack Cooling.
Its a good strong name and I like it - plus I am known by it.

My Facebook name is Philatious Winthrope Soggybottom III.
Its a good, fun name and its a character I can play with.

I have an MSN name Jeremiah Bobcat Thistlethwaite III.
This is also a fun name that I can create a character with.

So, assistance - what do you think works well with a stand up routine that will have a male 'Glamourous Assistant' who will wear womens clothing.
 
I think your real name is the easiest to pronounce. And you'd better put clips on YouTube when you get out there.
 
I voted for Philatious Winthrope Soggybottom III. It's the hardest to pronounce and has "bottom" in it, therefore, win.

Can i be the male glamourous assistant in women's clothes?
 
I think you should spend less time focusing on your name and more time focusing on your act.
If you really must choose a name though, i say go with your real name.

And i hope you'll end up putting several very short vids of your performance on here for us. 🙂
 
My suggestion which just came to me out of the blue - a 100% show biz comedian name.

Apple Jack Coolwaite. (no offense meant by playing with your real name)

You're real name...the other two are ridiculous. If I was in a club an either one of those names were annouced as the next act I would leave.
 
Abreviate your real name, A J Cool is so a stand up's name. Or a DJ's.

No matter how tempted I was to go for the 'bottom'-one, I agree with Kean in so far that those two names are more fit for a troupe of clowns than someone standing up in a comedy club.😀
 
I'd go with your full name or better yet, just your real first and last name, I'm not sure but most of the good comedians I've enjoyed did not have a seperate stagename...least not a real obvious one. (maybe they did and I'm just unaware of it.)

Good comedy for me is taken from life experiences, things you can relate to. A funny sounding, unrealistic name kinda takes that away from me if I'm in your audience.

I knew you'd love that, but you're a FB friend so you're used to it!
All of the ones I really enjoy, Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Dan Akyroyd, the list goes on....all have pretty normal names, even if they might not use their real ones. It wasn't the name that brought them recognition, but rather their act.

This one sounds off to me, but English and American humor can be very different at times. I don't find it hard to believe that the practice of stand up comedy might be different as well. Monty Python for instance (and yes I know it is a group, not an individual...but it does have a kinda odd sounding stage name ring to it.)

I'm relatively sure the name will gain you recognition though, maybe as the funny fellow with the odd name!

I think it does sound a little to wordy (going to be hard to fit that name 'in lights') and I don't want to sound mean but.... pretentious(?)

Maybe thats what you were going for in your acts character? Is it a self depreciating act making fun of those who don't think their crap stinks by playing a role of a la-de-da doof? Thats what I get from it as a first impression by name alone.
