How come the Scoobies never recognise Buffy when she is a robot or is actually Faith?
I always thought it was pretty obvious those two were not the real Buffy and yet, no one realised that it wasn't Buffy. The only one that felt it once was Tara...I know, I know, she's a witch, she has power...but it was the first time she met Buffy and she knew directly.

But the Scoobies?
They never recognise her!
Am I the only one who wonders "How come they never see that the person in front of them is so not their friend?"

It was made obvious to the viewers that Faith/Buffy and the Buffy Bot were not the real article, but the scoobies, for the most part, reacted the way that normal people would in that situation with what they believed to be the facts. Their eyes told them that what they were seeing was the real article. Therefore, her uncharacteristic actions were an indication that she was just acting strangely, and needed their help. Evil twins, robot doubles, or possession by another being just never occurred to them.

I think the robot incident was also mostly for laughs. Considering that the scoobies had seen characters evil twins (Doppelgangland) and split into two (The Replacement) you would kinda hope that they had learned their lesson!

On a side note, I still think an awesomely hysterical scene is when Xander says 'Oh, I get it, they're both Buffy!' looking all proud that he had got it before everyone else, and Buffy responds with 'No. That's a robot'. Cracks me up every time. Great comic timing and acting from both of them!

Although the signs may have been obvious its kinda hard to jump to the conclusion that there's a robot replica of your friend or your friend switched bodies with someone. Plus Buffy at the time had been kinda out of the picture friendship wise. She was all involved with the whole initiative and Riley thing. I think Riley should have noticed he had been spending time with her the most

Its also kinda weird how Faith noticed that Willow and Tara were together before anyone else too.

Well Faith was the first person to meet Tara, so it makes more sense that Faith would notice. Also, Faith is probably a little more open to same sex relationships.

But none of her friends noticed until Willow said it. Even when they had all already met Tara

Perhaps after the initial encounter Willow and Tara became a little more reserved in how they were acting around each other?

I just want to point out that Tara did know that it really wasn't Buffy. She read her aura or something like that and told Willow about it.

They didnt try to hide it at all. Tara didnt even mention that Faith had said anything when she spoke to Willow about it. Whedon wanted them to be a regular couple. Everyone just assumed they were friends. Except if you notice anytime someone joined the scoobies it was cause they were dating an original scooby. They should have noticed. The majority of my friends noticed before i told them and i was trying to hide it.

Since we, the viewers, know at once that Buffy is not Buffy in either of those circumstances we somehow expect the characters to know too. But they don't know all the things we do. Buffy has acted strange before, why not now? Do you really think, when a friend is acting strange, the first thing you're going to think is 'Now, I wonder if Faith has taken over her body...'. It's never going to occur to you, is it?

I've acted strange. I've had friends act strange. I've never once thought about them being robots or switching bodies.

Besides, Faith actually did a pretty good job being Buffy. She acted the part pretty well, except for how she was with Riley.

The robot, that was a stretch. Didn't really act like Buffy at all. Too peppy.

Guys, I'm talking about the fiction, not the reality. If my friends were acting strange, I wouldn't think "robot". But this is Sunnydale. Possession, Doppelganger, robots...It happens in their world. A lot.
