So thoughts on this list?

I think there are a number of good songs on here, but it's hard to believe some of them would be the absolute best of the entire decade. The Beyonce song is a perfectly okay pop song, but am I really to believe only three songs in the last decade have been better than that one? And clearly the good people at Pitchfork have a thing for Outkast and LCD Soundsystem, both of whom have multiple songs in the top 20....though as far as mainstream rap goes in the 2000s, hard to think of a more worthy candidate than Outkast. R. Kelly is not talented though, and shouldn't be on the list at all. I like "My Girls" but it's not a very old song. I don't know that in a few years people will think back on it as anything particularly special. Glad to see Arcade Fire made the list. Hadn't thought about Missy Elliott in several years, probably.

Wow, for me that is mind blowing. How did Radioheads brilliantly masterful 'Idioteque' make a list like this?

I don't get it.
 
I've only heard like, 7 of these songs. They're not very good. This pitchfork character should get their ears checked 😀
 
Well, Pitchfork is a publication that tends to focus on independent music so it isn't surprising you haven't heard every song on their list. It is pretty surprising that they chose to put Beyonce in their top five.
 
That list makes me want to vomit a little. And not just cause it was posted by the King of Vomit.
Seriously?! I like alternative, independent music a lot. And still... Not a single song from that list would make it onto any Top List of mine.
 
Does anyone remember the amount of time and effort that went into my Top 10 Songs of all time for the Triple J hottest 100 songs of all time? It took me 3 weeks to narrow it down in a complicated process. I like being a geek.
 
The only two songs from that list that I love are Hey Ya - Outkast & Idioteque - Radiohead... there are quite a few I've never even heard of though.

Probably heard some on the radio though, but I wouldn't now.... *shrugs*

Hm...I know 5 songs on that list! Well, tbh independent is not my style, but still, if it's the greatest songs of the last 10 years, shouldn't almost everyone in our age group have at least heard something about them?
 
I know like only five songs of that list 😛. And btw putting Beyoncé in a list of songs that are the best... no... she's just entertaining.
 
Hey Ya is an AWESOME song. Always me happy to hear it.

However, Crazy in Love? Seriously?! I skimmed the list, saw that and now have no intention to look at it properly. 😛
 
Now that stupid R. Kelly song will be stuck in my head all night. Really, someone who doesn't know it, YouTube it and tell me you don't know all the words by the time it's over....grr.

Anyway, unfortunately I know most of those songs. Lame.

Hey now, Crazy in Love's a very fine pop song.

I like what Pitchfork is aiming for with nods like that. They are trying to acknowledge pop as a valid genre, which is certainly is, amongst their more indie stuff. And they make some fine pop selections too. But then again, I can't help thinking that the order and high placement of those token poppy tracks is a bit arbitrary, a slightly misjudged attempt to escape their own reputation as hipsterier than thou. Get Ur Freak On's a good song, but there's no way it's better than Gnarl's Barkley's Crazy.

Some interesting omissions, as always. One genuinely surprising one being Radiohead's There There, which I thought was a shoe-in. I have to confess, I expected to see Arcade Fire chart a little bit higher, and I was surprised not to see Rebellion up there. I've heard some people grumbling about Wake Up being left out, but I think maybe Pitchfork has finally made itself bored with talking about them, although the Tunnels write-up was really nice.

LCD Soundsystem was a surprise to see in second place - and I expected Losing My Edge to come in higher, given it's subject matter - but All My Friends is very nearly a perfect song, so I won't complain. I would have been quite happy to see it at #1, too. James Murphy is a morose, slightly-cuddly wonderman and everything he touches turns to funky world-weary gold.

Radiohead, M.I.A., and Beyonce are all visionaries in my opinion for seperate reasons entirely so seeing them up there isn't a surprise. There really are some songs that I'm shocked they left out, however...
