Some of these feel like absolute shoo-ins. Avatar will 100% win Visual Effects, Batman will most likely win Makeup (hint: Colin Farrell as Penguin), Spielberg will likely nab Best Director, Pinocchio will get Best Animated, etc. Michelle Yeoh is almost GUARANTEED to get that Best Actress, since the others aren’t really all that strong (especially Blonde).

Sound might be Maverick? That movie had a lot of good stuff going for it, so I wouldn’t be surprised. Best Supporting Actress…I’m thinking Angela Basset. Her part in Wakanda Forever was one of the only truly excellent things about that movie (no I don’t know why it was nominated for several Oscars). I dunno. Plenty of no-brainers but also plenty of potential surprises.

@Plasma Everything Everywhere All At Once is the best movie I've seen in years! So it better win! 🤞
However, the best movie rarely wins (or even gets nominated for) Best Picture. So I'm not holding my breath. 😏

Haven't you seen The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse? It was on BBC(?) at Christmas. It was a big hit - it's the new Snowman.

I've got The Batman in the Bluray player. I watched half - only because I saw them filming it in Liverpool. I started Banshee then got distracted by a jigsaw and a Lego gauntlet.

Nope because it was on BBC, I don't have a tv license. I'll find it online one day, but I read the book.

Everything Everywhere was good, I hope it wins stuff. Haven't seen many of the others. Babylon was decent. Batman and Glass Onion meh. Black Panther quite disappointing. Living was OK.

Maverick or Everything Everywhere should will best picture for pure spectacle or dizzying originality respectively.

Brendan Gleeson for Banshees would be my pick for best actor from what I've seen.

Michelle Yeoh or Blanchett for Tar for sure because those performances were standout


Don't have much of an opinion on the other Noms, but I wouldn't gift a film like Glass Onion with any kind of award except a Raspberry.


Another note; glad to see The Woman King is nowhere to be seen because goddamn that was a horror show to sit through. So full of historical revisionism it actually made me angry. Don't make slavers the good guys.

Also no acknowledgment for Will Smith's mea culpu movie? Good.

I've only seen 6 movies that were nominated. I haven't seen Everything Everywhere All At once, but I hope it wins. I hope that Angela Basset wins, other than that I don't care. I need to see more of these movies.

Back in the days when there were a lot of excellent films, the Oscars actually did matter. I definitely believe that the people involved with said films deserved awards and praise.
