Hello again!

Several weeks ago...a young lady posted a thread here inquiring about the movie "GREASE 2". Several members warned against her seeking out and watching this movie, as it was of the opinion that it was a TERRIBLE movie...a sheer TRAVESTY.....a crime against the original, classic masterpiece that spawned it, and also a crime against humanity and god almighty. LOL....WHEW...that movie was a stinker.

Anyhoo....that inspired me to post this thread....I was curious to know which movie sequels do you think was the absolute worst you'd ever had the misfortune of losing two hours of your life to.

Oh, and Faldor..young brother, if you're watching this, I do understand your utter hatred of movie sequels...I'm right there with ya, bud. LOL.....although, even you must admit that not all movie follow ups are bad.

Here....I'll start with my own pick for one of the absolute WORST sequels:

My favorite movie of all time, bar none, is SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER.....a classic of the era that was the 1970's. That classic was utterly SHAT upon by the creation of it's so-called sequel....STAYING ALIVE!

I mean...what the f%$^%!! were those people thinking??!!! This had absolutely NOTHING to do with the original.....didn't even bother to acknowledge it. There was no character continuity. It had the WORST acting...the WORST script....a TERRIBLE soundtrack....and mother of god WHY did they have to involve Sylvester Stallone in this project?? There are just certain movies that that man should NEVER be allowed to come near...NEVER.
I have read that the original script to the sequel...written by the same person(s) who wrote Saturday Night Fever, was BRILLIANT....entirely different.....makes me wonder why that one was never optioned, instead of this piece of shyte!

Brothers and sisters.....stay away from STAYING ALIVE....you may lose your lunch..as well as your eyesight!

Now....let's hear from the rest of ya...what are YOUR picks? We need a good laugh around here.....lol.....

wow cool thread... but a though one, cause at the moment the only ones i can remember is those disney sequels. they make a big hit movie and then, just to milk the originbal movie they make a half-butted sequel, that's not even drawed(sp?) by the same people who made the original... like look at all the little mermaid sequels... and then making a mini mermaid to take over... the lion king then the lion king 2... Pocahontas and then pocahontas goes to england.... i mean why trash your own storys like that?

oh and all those friday the 13 movies.. i have only seen half of the orginal, and i've seen 2 or 3 of the others, and they were SOOOOO bad... why make like 6 sequals to a movie? i hope they didn't do it and thought they did a good job!

thanx for the tip Old Master! i will NOT see that film!

I don't remember what the name if it was... Uh... I think it was Night of The Living Dead 3 or something like that. The plot was really weird. This one girl was a zombie and she like...stuck metal stuff in her so she was all spikey and ****ed up. It was just a ****ed up movie in general. Then they all burn to death at the end. Don't waste your time seeing it.

Polexia - I agree. I think the first Friday the 13th was a great horror movie. But, after that the others seemed to go down hill. Freddy vs Jason was horrible

Staying Alive...aaaak, aaaaak!!! Badbadbad!

Any Rocky movie except the first one, which actually won an Oscar...

Any Jaws movie, except the first...

There are more..."I'll be back"...

Any Disney Sequel except Toy Story 2! It's just terrible. They can't think of any new stuff. It's just turned into unmusical, unimaginative, unDisneyish codswallop!

Cruel Intentions 2..Why??? WHY they did it???

What annoys me is that they call it a sequel when technically its a prequel as its set before the first.

My favourite movie is The Crow, for many reasons, and then they brought out The Crow: City of Angels, different lead character but the story, acting was just bad. If that wasn't bad enough they brought out The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, which is a remake of the original movie...dire and many more words that I would never utter to anyone else.

The Fast and The Furious 2 was pretty cruddy, but Cole Hauser was a good bad guy though 😉

Mrs Pointy has come up with "Pet Sematary 2" as being a particularly bad sequel - I however tend to avoid sequels as a rule unless they've received very good reviews. This is because I've always believed that all film sequels were worse to some degree than the originals - with the honourable exceptions of Toy Story 2, Godfather 2 and the Star Wars Eps 5 and 6. It pretty much sounds like prequels follow the rule as well.

If I may twist your thread slighty OM, can anyone actually think of any other sequels which have been better or as good as the original? Actually Buffy the TV Series was a sequel to a pretty bad film so I reckon that counts as well.

Final destination 2 was great..for some even better than the 2st one..and I guess Ringu 2 was also good

theres a time and a place for everything. what really pisses me is the current climate of making sequels and every studio making a film then number two at the same time.

it basically depends on whether the studio wants a sequal or if the writer wants to do more.

a sequel should not be commitioned before the original has finished shooting. isnt that common sence?!?!

the worst is when a storie is nicely wrapped up and the studio demand they bring it back best example i can think of is planet of the apes.

first one ends, the characters have pretty much gone full circle, the worlds been explained, not much left to do.

studio want a sequel. the star dosent want to be in it so they convince him to be in two scenes, hire somone who kinda looks like him, make up some naff plot and
end it with the world exploding

ok so from there they then decided they need a Threequel.
(gawd) so they use time travel always a winner and make the most family orientated exept end it somthing very dark.

then they do a fourth one. everyones favourite family film is back, exept its about ape race riots :S

then number 5 which changed everything.

and was stupid.

it sucks

it sucks

it so sucks

personally i like kevin smiths approach, their all connected but not really.

He's my favourite director, I love how all his movies are connected through different characters and actors, its what makes them unique.

Any of the Highlander sequels were just...bah! The only one I liked after the original was the latest one, End Game, for the sole fact that Peter Wingfield was able to reprise his role as Methos, my favorite character.

Oh yea, Highlander 2 stunk big time - I'd forgotten that one (more like repressed😉). You felt embarassed for Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert - still, I suppose they got paid well enough for it...

It's not a prequel. It's an alternative version rather. But I think this thread is meant for movies that succeed succesful movies, be it prequels or sequels.

My friend ust watched a sequel the other night and this thread came to mind...Blair Witch 2. It had it's scary moment's but over all it was incredibly stupid. It wasn't the same style of filming and it was a lot more visual which totally, in my opinon, went off course with the original's point. Now, I do respect that sequels have to have their own identity and "try" their own thing, but I just think this film was a waste of time. (Whoa! Strong words for me!) The first movie itself was a bizarre movie phenomenon which I didn't entirely understand but the second was just lousy in a not-so-near creative and different approach!
