The absolute worst season of Buffy

See, that's the beautiful thing about Buffy. There's never an ultimate, end-all judgement about the show because it was so layered and it meant different things to different people. I for one think season 6 was the greatest season, and every time I rewatch season 7, I feel like I'm watching this epic, long movie. But that's the beauty of it all.

I hardly see season 4 as the weakest (it did of course spawn my favorite episode ever, "Restless".) But I can understand why. The Initiative plot was a little sloppy, and Adam was a interesting concept, yet an ineffective Big Bad. Now if Maggie Walsh was the Big Bad of season 4, with Adam coming in near the end of the season to unleash all chaos, then THAT would be a good season.

If I were to pick a least favorite season it would be 1. Mainly to do with it being a mid season replacement and more of a "monster of the week" feel to it( I prefer story arcs)
 
No, Season 4 is definitely not the worst. This particular badge went to Season 7. Until S8 came along and beat S7 in badness over the head. True, even S7 had two or three good episodes, but it was overall a painful and disjointed experience. But at least it had Chosen for ending.
 
I'd probably say I think season 1 is worse than season 4. I don't mind season 4. It seems to get better the more I watch it. I wish Walsh hadn't been killed when she was, though. Adam was a little lame. But as others have said, season 4 has some great episodes.
 
I love season 4. So much. It was the first season I watched, so maybe that's why 😉 season 7 is the worst for me. Which doesn't mean that I don't enjoy it...because I totally do. I love every single season of Buffy, but if I HAD to rank them, 7 would probably be at the bottom.
 
Season 4 is my least favorite season, but I don't think it's terrible. One thing I didn't have a problem with was the military involvement, it makes sense to me that the government would want to experiment with supernatural beings. I'm sure if demons were real they'd do it. I also didn't mind Riley although he's far from a favorite character. Tara I liked right away and is one of my favorites.

That being said, Adam is an incredibly lame villain. The season also suffers from by far the weakest finale in the series. And, has others have said, the jarring change from high school to college and the drop in quality from the greatness that is season 3 makes season 4 look pretty bad in comparison to the series as a whole.
