The Annointed One?

Alright, I'm currently watching Buffy for the second time (first time was over the summer) and I'm about halfway through season 2. I was wondering, what was the point of the Annointed One? Did I miss something in the 1 episode I skipped or something, because he didn't really do anything. He just hung out with the master until Spike came and killed him off. Well, he lead Buffy to the master, but that was unnecessary. Did the writers bring him in and then decided it was a stupid idea so they killed him, or was he there to try and show how badass Spike was?

If I remember correctly, he was gonna be an important part(well, not as much as Spike,Dru and Angelus) of season 2, but the boy actor grew up too fast over a year. Vampires don't grow up. So they killed him off. 😛

Well his purpose was to bring Buffy to the Master. It was clearly said "The Slayer will not know him, will not stop him and he will lead her into Hell". In "Never Kill a Boy on a First Date" they thought they killed the Annointed one, but later they found out that he's not dead and when Buffy went to fight the Master he was there waiting for her with his "lost boy" scenario, but Buffy knew who he was and he lead her. That was his purpose, to bring the Slayer, because Master can't get out without her, and she wouldn't trust any vampires, but she would trust little, innocente kid. In the season 2 other vampires belived that he can kill the Slayer, that he can figure out how to kill her, but I don't know how would that go because Buffy knew who he is, but that is some other story because Spike dusted him 😀

Yeah I know that, but he wasn't needed. She was going out to kill the master either way, I'm sure she could find him without the Anointed one. And I don't see her trusting a random little boy taking her to the sewers anyway, she just went with him cause she knew he was taking her to the master.

For the evil side he was needed, because they belived they are going to win. And Buffy couldn't find him because until the last episode they didn't knew where the Hellmouth is, they find out when it opened, and we saw that Sunnydale sewers is tricky, so I don't know how Buffy would find him, because as we saw when she wanted to save Jesse that she was pretty much lost.

And the reason why he was out of the show is yeah, because he grew up.

I used to be really disapointed that he was just killed off, because I he seemed to have so much potential, story wise, and so many vampires feared/followed him, and then we was just dusted. But on the other hand, we got Spike&Dru goodness instead.

Regarding the Anointed One and his place in season two, obviously in the first episode it demonstrates just how powerful he was. The other vampires did his bidding once the Master was gone and I think it just reinforced that for a young boy, he was highly regarded by the Master and maybe the only one capable or bringing him back?

As for Spike and Dru and what they did? Could be several reasons: they wanted to be the leaders of the pack and weren't going to stand for a 'little boy' having more control of their cronies than them, or they also realised he could have bought the Master back and they wanted to be the big bads, despite whatever strange relation they might have had to the Master through Darla and Angelus.

I also think that he was a child to maybe trick Buffy into believing facing the Master wouldn't be that bad. He was an illusion IMO. But regardless, I'm glad he was killed off cuz I couldn't stand him.

So the annointed was written out of the story, several reasons have been stated.
He grew to much, he could have kept sitting down which he was when Spike first went to meet him. His voice broke, give him a special vampire outfit.
Maybe though someone saw the definitions of the word anoint. The verb to anoint, one of the meanings is,' to smear or rub with grease'.

My guess has always been that after the end of S1 The Anointed One really had no part in the show. His character in S2 was used only as a transition to the Spike-Dru-Angel arc.

The vampires had two sets of teeth in the show, one set for a non speaking role and another set if they had to do some speaking. So by giving the mini-me vampire the wrong set of teeth his voice would definitely be impaired.

My only thought when Spike killed him was...why didn't he do that sooner?

Hm, i guess i never really thought about the fact that the annointed was not in much to make it worthwhile but then again i agree that kids his age seem to age quickly so yeah wouldn't have worked him being a vampire for any longer than he was.
