The Anomaly

Hmmmm I think perhaps the anomaly that Willow was talking about is Fray and her brother Harth (I think that's his name) because this will be the first time in history that a slayer was born as a twin, so instead of Fray getting her full slayer powers some of it was transferred to another, and not just any other but transferred to a male child. Just like Buffy created the first time there were two slayers in the world at once, and also created thousands of slayers in the world at once, which is also an anomaly, Fray and her brother are anomaly's as well because she is the first slayer not to get her full powers and Harth is the first male to get even the slightest bit of slayer powers even if it is just the visions.


Which makes me wonder can a male actually become a slayer? Like could it have happened another way where Fray just got the visions and her brother got the strength, speed, agility, cause I thought slayer abilities wasn't in the blood, cause if that's the case wouldn't Robin and Dawn have slayer powers? So how exactly did Harth get her visions?

I've always thought that the idea of Fray and her brother sharing the Slayer powers was a nice plot twist, but contrary to the very idea of the Slayer. Fraternal twins, twins born of opposite sexes, come from two separate eggs being simultaneously fertilized in the mother's womb, so they would be no different, genetically speaking, as siblings born separately. There would be, of course, an argument for IDENTICAL twins, the result of a single egg splitting after conception, producing either two Slayers or two sisters each having only a part of the Slayer's power. Basically, I think Joss just didn't think this through when he first came up with the idea, or Fray's twin brother would have actually been her twin sister.

Of course there's always the possibility that by Fray's time, the technology exists to actually alter the gender of an unborn fetus, and Fray's parents, upon learning that they were going to have twins, decided that instead of two girls, they wanted a girl and a boy, so... Nah, that's grasping at straws. Joss just screwed up, pure and simple. All hail the imperfection of Joss!

I dont think magic cares which egg you and your twin brother come from. remember the slayers powers are not genetic but magical so it can bypass any scientific problems.

as for a guy slayer..... i doubt joss would ever make one but it could be possible. i mean angel and darla had a child while they were vamps so i dont see why a male slayer is mot possible.

As far as that goes, we actually have no idea whatsoever what qualifies a particular girl to be a Potential or how a Potential is Called to be the Slayer, or even just how the Watchers were able to identify and locate either one. We don't even know for sure is that Buffy upset the entire apple cart by activating all of the Potentials in the world and or that her actions in doing so might, just MIGHT, have set into motion the events which will lead to the entire process of Calling a Slayer being suspended until Fray is called a couple of hundred years in the future. What we don't know about the girl to Potential to Slayer process would fill volumes. Maybe Joss has all of the process worked out somewhere, but if he does, he hasn't mentioned it as far as I know.

So, yeah, maybe in the future ther process of determining just who is a Potential has changed to the point that the Slayer isn't determined by gender or age. Ultimately, it's all in the hands and at the whim fo the All Powerful Joss, and we can only stand in blind wonder, awe, and amazement at his wisdom.

I don't know if Buffy truly upset any balance or anything, because technically a slayer isn't suppose to exist in the first place. It wasn't the Powers That Be that created the slayer it was a group of men, and those men are the ones that decided the rules and lore of what a slayer is and how she would be called. It's just that Willow came along and changed those rules, however there is still a hell of a lot more evil in the world than good, so I don't think any balance was tipped, and I still dont' understand how there is a First Evil, but there is no First Good. I think that would have been a perfect ending to Season Seven, they figured out how to summon The First Good and it was the only thing that could hurt The First Evil, but not kill it of course.

I agree, there are hundreds of year between buffy and fray so anything can happen

Now, you might have something there. If the Watchers, as descendants of the Shadow Men, were somehow controlling how each new Potential was created and how each Slayer was called, maybe when Caleb destroyed the Council he also altered or negated the original spell altogether. (in fact, that might have been his objective in doing it in the first place: eliminate the possibility of new Potentials being born after all of the current ones were all killed. Otherwise, the Slayer line would still be intact, the next Slayer to be Called would just be delayed until she came of age) Then when Willow activated all of the Potentials, it was a different process altogether, and because she didn't specify that everyone called in the future would be female, from that point on, the Slayer could be either sex. The difference wouldn't show up for several years, since male Potentials would only start being born after the events of Chosen.

Joss, if you're reading this, Andrewcutter just pulled your chestnuts out of the fire. You owe him at least gratitude if not actual cash.
