Ok, I decided to do a fanfic about Faith, pre-slayer. I figure I'll start where Mom has died, and move on up to the time she was called..

.............................................

Faith sat in the chair, a lil slumped, the Boston wind blowing through he shoulder-length brown hair, she looked at the few people who seemed to be crying, she pouted her full lips and looked at the black casket in front of her, some of the town wanted Patricia Lehane to have a "good" burial, that way she would never haunt the town, old people thought like that, Faith on the other had, being 13, neither wanted nor cared to be there. Her mother was a little less than gracious towards her only daughter, and frankly, Faith sitting there acting like she was sad that her mother had gone, was a little more than she could handle.

Faith looked around, peering at everyone through her brown eyes, she couldn't take it, no one knew her mother like she did, and yet, everyone seemed to be crying, if they had known the drunk, abusive mom like Faith had, they wouldn't be here at all, story of her life, she thought. Faith decided to skip out, no way could she sit here any longer. Faith got up, her dirty blue jeans making a swishing sound, as they were a lil on the big side, she slipped between two empty chairs and moved towards the back of the park, where the trees where put more closely together. She walked quickly over there, and sat down at the base of a very large, and old tree, she layed her head between her knees and lookd down at the ground, the smell of grass just starting to emerge calmed her down abit, Faith had alot going in her head, she wondered if she would be able to keep the 1 room apartment her and her mother had stayed in, she wondered if Steve, her mother's boyfriend would be back, she liked him alot more than the others, he stayed a good distance away from her, and had never tried to hurt her, or her mother, besides he was in the army.

She shook her head to clear her thoughts, and lifted it to the sunset sky. It was pretty, but Faith had spent many sunsets outside, she got up, wiping the dirt from her jeans, and began walking back to the place she was supposed to call home, she past by the playground, where she stopped momentarily, looking at the young kids playing, their mother's and father's playing with them. It was a new thing to her, she had never known how that felt, now she would never know. She continued walking again, just as the sky turned a darker blue. She turned onto a dark street, and rubbed her arms, she didn't particuarly like the dark, but she had to pass this street to get home, so she faced her head to the ground and kept walking, maybe because it was the poor side of Boston, or maybe it was because of Faith's bad luck, but she notcied 2 people walking towards her, immediatly her insides froze, she had heard stories about what happened to people at night, and without anyone around her to help, what would happen to her?

The 2 men stopped in front of Faith, 1 of them chuckled. Faith gulped and looked up at them, one of them was very old, maybe 65, and skinny, the other, around 30, bald and heavy-set. Faith was completely frozen to the spot, if they wanted money, she didn't have any, then what? and what if they wanted something else..she wanted to turn, start screaming and run, but she couldn't, she was rooted to the spot. The bald one spoke first "Well, now why is a little girl walking down this street at night, alone?" the other spoke up also. "Maybe she was looking for trouble, or maybe she just got lost, where's your mommy little girl?" Faith gulped looking up at them. "Just...leave me alone." The men began to laugh, Faith, finally figuring she could walk began moving away from them. The old man took out a switch knife and looked a Faith "Now hunny where might you be going?" Faith let out a shaky breath and opened her mouth to scream., but what she saw next made her mouth shut again.

A lone male figure came from the darkness, his features scrunched up, he looked like a rat. The man grabbed the old guy from behind, and bit him, bit him! Faith was confused, and that mixed in with her fear, and she finally had enough sense to run, this time she got away. She didn't stop running until she entered her apartment door. Faith slid the lock in place and sat down on the small, dirty bed, she waited till her breath returned to normal, and she bit her lip, what was that thing, was it some crazy looky-loo that had escaped from the nut-house, nearby, or was it a monster? Faith believed in the inveitable, even though her mom used to scold her, and tell her there wasn't such a thing as evil on this earth. she wiped her nose with the sleeve of her shirt. She got up and went into the bathroom. She looked at all her mother's makeup that was left on the counter, her mother had always told her not to touch it, that all her stuff was to expensive for a little girl to be touching, but her mother was dead, so how much could she be beaten now? Faith silently grabbed a tube of lipstick from the medicine cabinet, and slowly moved it over her lips.

It was a dark brown and pruple mix, a favorite of her mothers, it had looked good on her, and it looked good on Faith. She liked it and now considered it hers. Faith went to wipe it off with a small bit of tissue paper, but stopped, and looked at the assortment of eyeliners, she picked up a sharp black one, and smeared it on her eyes, just as she had seen her mother do. It worked nicely too, Faith liked the look. She set the makeup down, and went to her mother's closet, all of her clothes were still there, like her mother isn't gone, like she'd be coming back, walking through that door any minute, but it wasn't true, all these clothes and makeup were a lie, her mom was gone, she was alone, and that thought penetrated through her. She dropped to her knees on the floor, as much as she hated her mother, it was still her mother, her only support system, no matter how much her mother hurt her, her mother was the one that brought in a little bit of money, and food, which Faith would always sneak to eat, but now, it was all gone, and Faith being to young to work, wondered what she was to do now. She looked up at her mother's clothes, and back at the floor, she had never cried, no matter how bad her mother hit her when she was drunk, Faith had never cried, and now that her mom was gone, and Faith was feeling every bit as hopeless as her situation looked, she let a single tear fall onto the gray carpet, it was ironic to Faith, that after all these years of wanting to be alone, alone was what made that tear come. She climbed slowly into the bed, and made herself fall asleep.

Faith awoke to a bit of sunlight streaming in. She sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes and stood slowly, streaching. Faith looked around not knowing what to do. She was hungry, she changed into another pair of dingy jeans, and a white tank top. She reapplied the eyeliner she liked so much, pulled on a pair of torn up tennis shoes, and slowly unlocked the door. Faith stepped out into the morning sunlight, and started to walk down the street, towards the market, she didn't know how she was going to get food, but she had to get it somehow. She reached the market, and stood outside, wondering for a minute. She slowly entered the already bustling grocery store, and ,ade her way to the back of the store. Faith eyed the food, looking at it, not being able to eat it made her stomach seem to roar with hunger. Faith stopped, she could get food, if she could get away with it...Faith stopped down the snack aisle, she ticked her head left and right to make sure no one was watching, and loaded her pockets full of snacks and sweets.

Faith was nervous, and she wanted to leave right away, but because of the swishing noise her pants made, she had to walk slow, and she had to look innocent. Faith made her way back to the front of the store, and exited it cooly. Once outside she began running. Faith stopped at the playground she had passed yesterday, and sat down tearing open a small snack cake. She bit into it, and looked around. The playground was empty, and the morning mist floated over everything. She ate slowly, and sighed thinking to herself. She didn't notice an old man approaching her. The man tapped her on the shoulder, and Faith screamed, she turned to face him., it was the man who worked at the pawn shop. She eyed the man and bit her lip.

He spoke warmly to her. "You are Patricia's daughter right?" Faith nodded. "And, you are living alone now aren't you?" Faith nodded again. "Well, how would you like to work with me, I could pay you, and you could pay your rent, and your food, and maybe clothes, how does that sound?" Faith cleared her throat. "I'd like that, thank you sir." The man nodded and smiled at her. "Good, you may start tommorow." with that he turned and headed towards the dense trees of the park. Faith smiled, she was suprised at how lucky she was, she actually got to work and she was able to keep the place she called a home, hopefully, she really didn't know how much rent was, hopefully it was enough. She stood up and decided to go back home, maybe clean up abit, or get rid of some of her mom's stuff.

When she got home she emptied her pockets and put everything that she got away, and hid it. Then she started to clean up. Faith opened her mother's closet and raked through the clothes, she kept some, but threw most away. She sighed as she put the other clothes in a pile on the floor, and folded them. She stood up and went to clean the bathroom, she cleaned off the counter and replaced all the makeup back where her mother had intially put it. Faith sat on her bed and looked around at everything, the place was her's, now it was her responisbilty it take care of everything her mother had neglected, including her own self.
