What's the best book for you???Which one is your favourite???

I have to go with Jonathan Carroll's 'The Land of Laughs' and Agatha Christe's 'Ten Little Niggers'.What about you??

*cough cough* Um...ana8, I think the Agatha Christie book you're talking about is called Ten Little Indians. The title you gave is pretty offensive (just a quirk of translation, I'm sure - I know english isn't your first language). 🙂

Any of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books but I found that the BBC's "Big Read" survey included many of my favourites in the top 100. I was surprised to find how many I'd read.

LD - I thought that Christie's book was re-named in the light of sensitivity about the word "nigger" and that was the original title. Could be wrong...

You're right, Mr. Pointy. I just did a little web-research. That was the original title. Weird. Ten Little Indians was also ditched, apparently it is now going by "And Then There Were None".

Good call on Discworld, too. Especially his more recent ones like "The Truth" and "Thief of Time"....Pratchet has (in my opinion anyway) gotten much much stonger as he's gotten older.

Plus he is very funny even though the books seem to be tackling more serious themes - I think that's what you meant by getting stronger. And he is responsible for my favourite pun - at the end of "Soul Music" - which was telegraphed all the way through the book and I still didn't see it coming...it probably didn't mean much to non-Brits in hindsight.

BTW how do you get quotes to say "originally posted by..."?

And you're right about what I meant - he continues to be hilarious - funnier (pardon my blasphemy) than Douglas Adams if you ask me - but it's his ability to be hilarious and make pointed commentary that really dazzles me. Well, that and things like the ancient fighting art of "Deja Fu"....hehehe

My favorite book would have to be The Master of Black Tower by Barbara Michaels. Its definatly not for everyone but its kind of like your tipical beauty and the beast story but I just love it.

Also Dark Guardian by Christine Feehan is really good plus the guy on the cover is not to bad looking himself lol.

I don't think you're being blasphemous. Douglas was very funny but was nowhere near as prolific as Terry. So I think Terry wins on sheer quantity of quality humour 😉
But hey, it's all good. Just a shame that Douglas's career was cut short by his untimely death...
 
Haha! I just was talking of this subject with a friend!

The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss. It is my fav book of all time and I have reread more times than I can count. I can open the book up on any page and start reading, I know the story so well....
