The Best Buffy/Giles Moments

Buffy and Giles have had so many moments - touching, dramatic, comedic.... what are your favourite? Considering the Watcher and Slayer relationship, and the father-daughter dynamic that builds up there are literally hundreds of scenes to choose from - but which ones do you personally love?

Ill start the ball rolling ......

"¢ That moment in S2's Passion when Buffy takes Giles outside the burning factory. Giles says, "Why did you come here? This wasn't your fight." Buffy then punches him and shouts "Are you trying to get yourself killed?" They both then collapse onto the ground and she embraces him in her arms, and Giles just sobs as Buffy says to him "You can't leave me...I can't do this alone." This is a heartbreaking scene and one which gives me chills everytime I watch it!!

"¢ In S3's Faith, Hope and Trick, when Giles creates this fallacy about a binding spell on Acathla to get Buffy to share her pain and anguish about the situation. Its the final scene when Willow turns to him and says she wants to help and Giles simply says, "there is no spell" - the way he says it and the understanding that comes - classic scene.

"¢ In S5's Spiral when Giles is seriously hurt:

BUFFY I'm sorry.
GILES For what?
BUFFY We should have stayed. If we had, none of this --
GILES Don't. You did... what was necessary. What I've always admired.
BUFFY Running away?
GILES Being able to place your heart above all else. I'm so proud of you. How far you've come. You're everything a Watcher - everything I could have hoped for ...

That moment when he hesitates after saying "Watcher," and then changing it to the more personal "I" shows just how far their relationship has come, it is a father's love coming through here.

"¢ In S6's Flooded, that moment when Giles sees Buffy for the first time since coming back from the dead. Its that simple look between Buffy and Giles as she stops mid sentence - both of their faces!!!! It just gets me... and then they approach eachother and hug! WOW.

Ok, I could go on forever, but Ill stop there.

I think you listed the best ones.

I would add, and some of these are small moments that are nonetheless satisfying:

In "The Harvest" when Buffy is leaving to try to find Jesse, and Giles says, "Do I have to tell you to be careful?" And Buffy gives him a long, meaningful look. It's the first moment in the series when you can see that there is going to be a special bond between them.

In "The Witch" when Giles picks up the ailing Buffy to take her to the school to reverse the spell. It's really touching.

"Prophecy Girl," when Giles says he won't change his mind about facing the Master and Buffy says, "I know." He gives her a startled look and then she slugs him. It's a turning point for Buffy - when she comes to fully accept her role as Slayer.

In "Some Assembly Required" where Buffy gives Giles tips on how to ask Jenny out. "Speak English, not whatever they speak in --" "England?"

In "Halloween" when she's pranking him in the library while Willow gets the information from his office. He's such a sucker for her there. "A burning hunk of what?"

The end of "Lie to Me."

Two scenes in "The Dark Age" - the one where Giles confesses that he created the demon and doesn't know how to save Jenny, and the one at the end where they talk about what happened. Slowly, their relationship is evolving into one where they understand each other as human beings and friends.

The moment in Innocence when Giles realizes that Buffy has had sex with Angel.

The scene in Dead Man's Party when, after Buffy returns and comes to his house, Giles is making tea and the look of relief on his face .... (Also one of many, many sensational bits of acting from ASH.)

The way he cleans her wounds in Helpless. That makes me melt every time.

One of my favorites of all is in The Zeppo, at the end, when Buffy tells Giles that his fighting the demon was "the bravest thing I've ever seen." The loving way she looked at him, coming right after Helpless, told the viewer that she had forgiven him for what happened in Helpless.

The silent look they exchange in The Prom after she dispatches the devil dogs.

In "Bad Girls" when Wesley first shows up. I LOVE how they sit right next to each other on the table. It strikes me as a signal from Buffy that she will remain loyal to Giles, not to this new watcher.

The final scene in Graduation Day Pt. II when he gives Buffy her diploma.

The end of "Buffy vs. Dracula," where she asks him to be her watcher again.

In "Checkpoint," when she says, "I can't lose you."

When he gives her the check in "Life Serial."

The helpless laughter in "Grave."

And finally, in Chosen, when he praises her idea and says "It's bloody brilliant. If you want my opinion." And she says, "Really do," and they exchange another one of those looks that tells you that, no matter what went before, they're okay and their bond is still strong and deep.

There's many great moments. The first one that comes to my mind is towards the end of Innocence.

Giles: If it's guilt you're looking for, Buffy, I'm, I'm not your man. All you will get from me is, is my support. And my respect.

I love this scene too, that look says it all - the relief, the happiness - its a private moment we get to share with him and I just love it!!

This is a huge moment in their relationship, when Buffy tell Giles she needs him, and Giles is delighted to hear it. I love their renewed closeness over the season.

Key Buffy/Giles moments for me...

- Giles trying to comfort Buffy at the end of 'Never Kill a Boy on the First Date'.
- ''I'm 16, I don't want to die'' scene in 'Prophecy Girl'.
- The scene at the end of 'Lie To Me' when Buffy ask Giles to lie to her.
- One of the best Buffy/Giles scene... In 'Innocence' when he tells her in the car that she will only get respect from him. 🙂
- The alley scene in 'Passion'. Gripping.
- Dramatic scene in 'Helpless' when Buffy finds out Giles had been injecting her something.
- At the end of 'Buffy vs Dracula' when Buffy tell Giles she still need him.
- When they sit at the table in the Magic Box in 'Checkpoint' and Giles says he should have let Buffy kick Quentin's ass(lmao!). 😀

I won't even put any from S6 and S7 'cause Giles went down from the beginning of S6.

I loved this one too.

- Dramatic scene in 'Helpless' when Buffy finds out Giles had been injecting her something.

I found this scene very painful to watch. It seemed so out of character for Giles to be betraying Buffy like that.

Another dramatic scene between them, which is not a positive scene but is fun to watch because it's so well acted, is when he scolds her in his office after he first found out Angel was alive. "But sadly I must remind you that Angel tortured me ... for hours ... for pleasure. You should have told me he was alive. You didn't. You have no respect for me, or the job I perform." And then he turns his back on her. Very dramatic.

I also love in A New Man when Buffy finally recognises Giles in the eyes. When Giles asks her how she knew it was him Buffy says, "Your eyes.You're the only person in the world that can looked *that* annoyed with me." And then when the roles are reversed in Who Are You?

GILES: (startled) Gaah!

BUFFY: (cautiously) Don't move. Okay. Giles, y-you have to listen to me very carefully. I'm not Faith.

GILES: Really?

BUFFY: Really.

GILES: 'Cause the resemblance is striking.

BUFFY: I know. Giles, you just have to-- Stop inching! You were inching!

GILES: Look, I-I know what you're going to say, and-and, uh--

BUFFY: I'm Buffy.

GILES: All right, I didn't know what you were going to say. But that doesn't make you any less crazy.

BUFFY: Faith switched. I mean, she had some device. She switched our bodies. Giles, I swear. It's me.

GILES: W--um, if-if you are Buffy, then, uh, then you'll let me tie you up, w-without killing me. Until we find out whether you're telling the truth.

BUFFY: Giles, Faith has taken my body, and for all I know, she's taken it to Mexico by now. I-I don't have time for bondage fun. Ask me a question. Ask me anything.

GILES: Who's president?

BUFFY: We're checking for Buffy, not a concussion.

GILES: Oh, yes. Right. Um--

BUFFY: This is-- Giles, you turned into a demon and I knew it was you! I mean, can't you just look in my eyes and be all . . intuitive?

GILES: (pointedly) How did I turn into a demon?

BUFFY: Oh! 'Cause, uh, Ethan Rayne. And-and you have a girlfriend named Olivia. And you haven't had a job since we blew up the school --which is valid, lifestyle wise. GILES: Actually, I beg you to stop.

BUFFY: What's a stevedore?

Such a great moment - I love how Giles says this. It means so much to Buffy and really cements their relationship.

PRetty much all the ones have been mentioned, but I've ALWAYS loved the one in "A New Man". It shows what a bond the two have with each other. Also notable are the scenes in "Passion", "Prophecy Girl", and "Spiral".

I also love the scene in "The Gift" when they are talking in the training room. Buffy has hit her wall and Giles is doing what he can to help her. Once again, he sees her going through the worst, but is powerless to stop it.

Ooo, and all their interactions in "Band Candy", because it's just hilarious. Another funny one I love: end of "Earshot". "...if you're not too busy having SEX WITH MY MOTHER". *Giles walks into a tree* Heehee.

Ooh, I love Buffy aned Giles! I made a vid for their relationship to put on youtube, but I can't figure out how to render it properly...damn...

Most of the best ones have been mentioned, so I'll just mention a couple.

The scene in "Intervention" where Buffy tells Giles she loves him during her desperate rant about not being able to love and Giles pauses for a moment slightly thrown after she says it. It's such a beautiful moment.

Also, I'm not sure if it was mentioned but, the end of "Innocence" when Giles tells Buffy that she has nothing but his support and his respect.

But my favourite moment would have to be one that's already been mentioned, when Giles tells Buffy he's proud of her in "Spiral".

I love two moments.
1) Buffy found out that giles gave her toxins to take her strong slayerside for the trial. Afterwards she says something like "
I don't know who yo are!! Cordi please can you drive me home."
THis is a real sad scene but I think that it is one of the most importent one for the Bffy/Giles relationship.

2) When Giles gave her the check with the money and the moment when he comes to protect her befor the concil of watchers!
