For me it's season 4. I love seeing college-Willow. I love her heartbreak with Oz (well... I don't 'love' it... it's heartbreaking, but it's a good storyline), I love her meeting with Tara, her exploration of her magic etc... just all around good or interesting stuff going on with Willow in that season and yet she's still utterly adorable.

I agree with Taake, I love s4 Willow. It's a good middle ground Willow, in between her awkward highschool stage, and her later power driven self. I equally like nerdy s1 Willow and addicted s6 Willow though, but Will definitely shined in s4. I also think s4 is one of the season that gave the best opportunities for Alyson to show her acting talent, she just absolutely killed the dramatic scenes, while maintaining great comedic timing. God, I wish AH would get more credit, and I wish she went back to doing some works involving drama and not just comedy.

I still maintain that a Willow spinoff could've worked. AH is a amazingly terrific actress.

I think the 3rd season is the best Willow. It contains some very good Willow-centric episodes; episodes in which she is still a pretty likeable character. Gingerbread, The Wish, Dopplegangland. Even the small scenes especially, showcase what a good actor understated actor she is. Such as the scene in the cafeteria where the gang founds out Xander did the hibbity dibbity with Faith, and Willow in her small voice, looking down, I think fumbling with her fingers or something says 'I figured that out.' She's great in Season 3.

I picked seasons 2-4. Willow goes through a lot and changes from shy, nerdy Willow to more confident, witchy Willow. I think the only Willow I don't like is s5&s6 Willow, but there's even good moments in those seasons too. And I agree about AH's acting. She gets a lot to do on Buffy that shows how great she is. I do like her comedy stuff too though, HIMYM and American Pies movies, but I think she's great with the drama.

I picked season 4. I think she really flourishes in college, she's in her element. She's improving with magic, but she's not crazy powerful and I like her relationship arcs.

You know, this is a surprisingly difficult question 'cause Willow is always Willow but at the same time season 1 Willow is not season 5 Willow is not season 10 Willow, you know what I mean? I think I like those seasons in which Willow changes the most, that would be season 2, season 4, season 6 and season 9 in my opinion.

I put S4. This is her season to shine and change and grow- she embraces college the easiest, survives hearbreak, explores magic in a healthy-ish (apart from 'Something Blue') way, finds new love whilst discovering something new/exciting/scary about herself.
She has that cute hair style, she dresses in clothing that are neither massively nerdy or odd renaissance-fair material.

I do like high school Willow a lot though, S2 especially.

Actually Willow has a lot of great seasons. In fact she is one of the few characters that I can point to the comics and say 'this character has had a great season of character development.'
I could put Season 8, 9 or 10 down and point to actual character stuff.
So she's consistant- the only seasons she really stumbles for me are 6 and 7.

I don't have a clear favorite. S6 Willow isn't as likable obviously but her character changes are also interesting if considered from a certain light. Man, I really wish I could have been around during the S6 round table discussions between all of the writers. I really liked the general idea for S6, I wish a different angle had been chosen for it though. If S6 were done differently, effectively and believably but with the same general intent, it would have been a home-fun for me and possibly my favorite season. I loved the idea and what they were trying to do with it.

Overall I really love the character Willow and every season is a celebration of her character for me in some way or other.

Season 6 - I like all the aspects of Willow in all the seasons, and I didn't like the magic addiction but I love the way she slowly disintegrates under the pressures of so many things she has gone through. Willow never learned that it was okay to make mistakes, to admit mistakes, and she never learned to grow up because she had a tool to make everything all right.

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

It's what I like about season six - it tests everyone to their core and then pushes even harder.

I went 4 too. You really see the full range of emotions of the Willow character during that season and AH plays them all excellently. It is also Willow at maybe her most mature or at least is the introduction of a new Willow. Love her look during the season too🙂

S9 Willow.
  • She gave Angel a huge free pass while everyone else in the Scoobies would stake him on sight.
  • She flayed an Old One who rules a most terrible dimension alive. It's like flaying Glory alive x 1000.
  • She enjoyed a lot of sex and drinks and magic and got away with it.
  • Her murder count was retconned to zero. All hail to saint Willow!
  • She consumed her dark side instead of brooding and repressing it like some lame vampires.

This is such a rich life everyone else in the Scoobies can only dream of. She deserves a proper retire or more epic sagas. But no, she devolved to Buffy's non-unique spellcaster sidekick and a goddamn coder in S10. Can you believe that?
