Bible vs. Buffy
by Vicki Holland

Rose Marie Berger's glib essay on hell won't do ("Damnation Will Not be Televised," November-December 2003). She concludes: "If you want to know about hell, ask someone who's been there."

No doubt she overlooked our Lord's powerful sermon on the subject (Luke 16). In a parable, the rich man begs for someone to return from the dead to warn the living of the terrors to come. Jesus said, "If they don't pay attention to Moses and the prophets, they won't be persuaded though one rose from the dead."

It's fashionable to wave aside the thought of eternal judgment with talk of hellish poverty and war. According to our Lord Jesus' clear teaching, it will be much, much worse than that. We'd be better off reading the Bible on the subject than watching Buffy.

Dumb hypocryts.

I'd better not get into detail, 'cause I hate christians. As well as jews and muslims. Can't be bother by hindoes or budhists, but that's probably just because I've never met one.

In short, not a fan of religion, so I'll shut up now.

I am a christian, but some people are so narrow minded. I hate it when people are like "oh I'm a christian (or a whatever) so everything I say is right, and none of your views are valid." So now I just don't read articles like that b/c they piss me off. 🙂

I totally agree Spikes_bitca. I'm also Christian, and that article bugged me. People who think like the lady that wrote that piss me off sometimes...

Im not a devout Christian or anything, but that article pissed me off.

I follow and quote Buffy as if it's a religion though so they can't say you learn nothing from TV!

I don't think its fair to 'hate' the people themselves, as everyone deals with their religion in their own way. As long as they don't attempt to impress their beliefs onto me I don't have a problem with them.

Well, if you're a christian like the ones that have posted after me, you're not really the type I'm poiting at. But I do have a thing against organised religion and the institutions of church. And I've had bad experiences with christians in the past.

I do not believe in organized religion either, Allycat, but there is a good way and a bad way to say anything. Please, and this goes for everyone who posts here, as I know that religious discussions can get pretty hairy, strive to always say things in the good way. Thank You.

I agree, Allycat. But, although I myself have left the church years ago, I have also met Christians whom I admire for their beliefs and conduct of life, even though I wouldn't want to share either.

But people who write and preach things like the stuff quoted above shouldn't be called Christians. I mean, Jesus was about the most revolutionary and open minded person alive at his time. He'd certainly not agree with what those people believe and preach.

I hate stuff like that. Isn't Christianity a religion of tolerance? But I always find that those religious fanatics (as we should probably call them instead of Christians) have never even heard of the word "tolerance".

People have their own opinions and their own view on life and I accept that, but someone shouldn't be going out and telling people what is right and what is wrong.

I strongly disagree with what that women in the article said. Read the Bible? What if wer'e not Christian. She makes it sound like Christianity is the only right answer. Everyone has their own opinions. I don't hate anyone for who they are, and what they believe in. But something like that article makes me angry.

Same here, lol. I told my parents as an alternative to college I might want to become a religious extremist and start my own Buffy religious cult! I was kidding of course. Sort of. But I am a Wiccan at heart.

I don't like this article either, but I think it's very strong to say that u hate christian & such Allycat. I mean, not agreeing is a thing, but to hate them coz of their convictions, it's way too much.
Everyone should be free to believe what they wanna, but I agree that this article was wrong & I'd say to this woman sod off !!!
& it's not coz u met some stupid christians that they r all like that. Some r very open minded & can be very interesting to discuss with. I even know a priest that is really really cool, lol
