This has been mentioned b various people in other threads, but to my knowledge hasn't ever been the subject of an official poll, so...

How do you prefer Spike? The Big Bad? The Champion? Both? Neither?

Feel free to elaborate on your choice, simply vote and walk away muttering about another silly post, or anything in between.

No surprise but I picked both. Each side of his character has something to love about it.

I chose him as the Big Bad. Always and forever.

It's no secret that I despised the direction they had taken him. Honestly, he may have been extremely popular at the start but in my opinion, I would've much rather have seen him die. And by die, I mean die while he was still bad.

Still, though, I will freely admit that in S5 of Angel, he did bring something to the show.

But I much rather prefer him as the Big Bad.

Totally agree!
I chose both. I love the character.

Though, there are times in season 4 and 5 that I'm just embarrassed FOR him. Like, it makes me a little uncomfortable even.

But that's part of his development and I love where it leads him.

I agree, I think the awkward transitional phase is important, surely something most of us have experienced at 1 time or another
I prefer his champion days, considering he annoyed me too much until he got a soul. Don't get me wrong, I started to unvolountarly like him around season 4, but he was such a big annoying self-centered pain in the butt until he got his soul. I really hated him in season 6. Now though, after seeing him being good, I really enjoy the earlier seasons with him, specially season 2 and 4. Still have a hard time with season 6 spike though. Now I don't just hate him that season, I feel sorry for him though. He's so ignorant and lost among good people.

I read this in Spike's voice and it was perfect

Followed GumGnome's suggestion, and laughed like crazy.

Haha! Extremely true! Specially in season 5, around Spike.
I love Spike both ways, but I voted for Evil Spike because I love him the most. His self-serving attitude as a big bad was interesting to me.

Really interested to see zobothehobo respond to this. I prefer spike all sexy evil. Still a spuffy though!

ahahahahahahah this made me laugh. 🙂

It should be no surprise to everyone, I clicked both. Spike is amazing. He's amazing as a villain, and he's amazing as a champion. The most amazing thing about him as a villain is he's not that much different from him as a champion. He didn't change his core of who he is... A lot of times people think he did because he changed sides of the fight... but he's the same guy in the core. And he's amazing.. Always has been, always will be.

Perfect post :)
I chose both. I just love the character of Spike, whether he's the big bad, the comic relief or the *champion*. He's simply great. 🙂

I chose champion. Yes spike is awesome in all of his forms but I think he really is a champion at heart. 🙂 So, he's being his most full and authentic....the purest form of who he really is when he is that.

🙂

awesome post!
I'm another both vote. I think both sides are equally important to Spikes character and story. Without being a champion, he's just another villain and without being a villain he's just another champion. I love that Spike is multi faceted. It makes for an interesting character.

The Big Bad for sure, he was so awesome in Season 2. I did enjoy him as a Champion though, seeing him and Angel compete was awesome. Vote goes to "Big Bad" though

I voted both, for me Spikes arc is one of the more interesting aspects of the show. Take away any one aspect of this and the character kind of falls apart.

^That. Completely.

*grumbles incoherently to make this 20 characters or more*

I choose Big Bad. He was much better when kicking ass and not giving a damn than kicking ass and tricking Buffy into going on dates with him.
