I've been rewatching Buffy and I'm curious. Are there really clubs in the U.S. like the Bronze where high school kids can casually go to?

I know I'm biased because I had a strict upbringing but I would have had to sneak out of the house to go to a club like that when I was sixteen and so would most other people I know. I know kids that age go to clubs all the time but the Bronze seems to be fine with everyone's parents so I was just curious.

In 2011 I doubt anything like The Bronze would exist, a place where underage high school kids could go to hang out would be shut down immediately by the cops. When I was in high school the only safe place would be friends house. The Bronze, to my knowledge, is something that could only exist on television

There are a few all age clubs here in Raleigh, but for the most part, no one really goes to them. There's no place that's an all age club that's legit cool like The Bronze.

We had one called "The Hype" in my city but it changed owners and was generally regarded as pretty seedy because that's where the "troubled" high school kids would go to do their drug deals and get randy. Indie bands used to play there too and stuff, but yeah, though it was an underaged legal club, the only people I knew who went there were emo drug dealers.

I used to go to clubs in highschool. The teen nights/teen clubs generally got shut down fast though for underage drinking and stuff. But they cropped back up. But as far as I knew there werent any like the bronze they were like night clubs, party scenes.

Well when I was in middle school there was a club/dance place and I went to clubs for teen nights. By high school those weren't so popular because you know when you party you don't want to get caught. So I am with the person that would say these days a friends house is where it is at.

The clubs were pretty popular but like I said between kids wanting to party and constant fights the nights would have the cops coming early. That got old fast.

We have a few teen clubs in my city, but no one really goes to them and they're REALLY sketchy. Like, a 'people will inject you with random stuff while you're dancing' kind of sketchy. They're nothing like the Bronze. As far as I know, things like The Bronze don't exist IRL!

I've always wondered this. Especially how none of them needed ID when they clearly didn't seem old enough (i.e. Willow). In the UK we have underage club nights sometimes but they're not really regular due to licensing laws.

I didn't know underage clubs existed, I had never heard of anything like this!

I just thought it had to be so cool to live in a small town and have the cool place you can meet your friends at. When I moved, I moved quite far away from all my besties, and I have like one hour/one hour and a half to get at their home, so we can't like go to the Bronze every night after school, say "meet me there in twenty minutes". No way. And I always thought it would be awesome you know, to have like that a place to hang out with your mates and run into others classmates and occasionnal vampires. Yeah, I've grown up feeling imcomplete because I didn't have a Bronze. Don't mock me.

We have things called "Youth Clubs" in England. A few kids used to hang out there when I was around 14. It was alright, but it was no Bronze.

I know a few clubs over here in England that have nights where they're open to underage kids. Technically they're not supposed to be served alcohol or anything but apart from that it's just a regular club. Although something tells me the 'no alcohol' rule is broken alot. If they don't drink in the club the drink beforehand anyway. But yeah so, stuff like that does exist but I don't think they're as good about the alcohol as Buffy and the gang are 😛 Something tells me the Bronze and whatever it's rules would be in reality were bent to fit the storylines.

There were (and still are as far as I know) underage clubs at my area when I was 15, 16. Clubs that usually have a 18 year old limit (that's the drinking age in sweden at clubs), but that maybe once a month has something with a 16 year old limit. I used to go to them all the time. They're really strange though - they never checked if you really were 16 and it was allowed to serve alcohol on those nights too, so usually the ones that were 18 there just bought the ones that were 16 drinks. Now a days it isn't allowed to smoke inside public places in Sweden, but when I was 16 it was, and even though the age limit for buying cigarettes is 18, everyone smoked and that wasn't a problem either.

Thinking back on it, the whole thing is really strange and not something I would want my future 16 year old son or daugther to go to, but back then I of course loved it, lol

In highschool my friends and I would hang out at 24 hour restaurants like IHOP and drink coffee and smoke cigarrettes. I would have loved to have a bronze type place. dance clubs I went to in my late teens/early tweenties were nothing like the bronze either, sadly.

Yeah; in Theater when we did a show we'd all go out after and eat at Sharis.

Sometimes a couple of us would go to the lake for an overnight bonfire camp out. One time we over slept and almost missed our dance battle to save the rec center; freakin' socs man.

(Judd Nelson fist pump!)

P.S. I miss the eighties...even if I was too young to appreciate most of it.
