Just got back from seeing it, without knowing a single thing about the movie. As a horror fan, I appreciated what they were doing and fell in love with where I thought it was going. Instead, it went a different direction which is fine but I felt there was missed opportunities. I was disappointed but hey, it wasn't terrible. It just wasn't awesome.

Where did you think it was going?

I was also less than enthralled by the movie. I really tried to like it though.

Bit of an indecisive parody, as far as I can tell.

I saw it last night, and I loved it! I thought it was so original and well done, especially one scene reminded me of the Initiative
like when all the monsters got loose which was totally awesome

I just didn't really like the very end, I thought they could have done something else... Oh well.

And I totally geeked out when Andrew made a cameo! Oh my gosh, I couldn't sit still! 😛

Seeing Red
I agree with this so much. :P
I saw it Friday night. I tricked my day into taking me, because I am not 18 yet. Arrrrgggg. I did not tell him it was horror. ^^

I LOVED it. It was so humorous but was also very scary at parts. It caused me to jump multiple times. Plus, it had amazing actors, not just the Whedonverse people did an amazing job. When certain people showed up on the big screen I freaked out a bit. The movie was good. I did not like the ending too much though, so I created a headcannon about it. 😀

Spoilers!

I am totally convinced that the underground Hell thing that came out at the end was the Hellmouth. 😀 I think it makes sense, they never really explained what it was. 😉

What would you have liked happen in the end instead?

Cause at first

Spoilers to my reaction....

I was bummed out and angry at the characters but now its so good, flipping your expectation and the horror movie norms on its head.

I'm not sure... I was half expecting them to
kill themselves maybe? Or also, I was expecting that girl with the one arm to be considered the virgin, and the ritual would be complete? But then again, I don't remember, I don't think that girl was a virgin... Meh.

No she isnt, "we work with what we have" or something like that...

none of them were what they had to be.... they did things to change all the kids.

And I gotta agree, I expected the same and thats why I was so annoyed at them.. but then like almost a week later and I'm still thinking about this movie and that's why its so good, it was opposite day in the cabin in the woods.

I'm interested to see when it gets a home release if there's an alternative ending.

I never thought of it that way! I like that also.

I saw them as Titians, for the Avengers to defeat. 😛

Oh yeah, that's so true! None of the kids were what they were supposed to be... She wasn't a virgin, she wasn't a real blonde, he wasn't a fool, etc... Very clever. 🙂

But I was confused... Where did they get "the fool's" blood? Was it from that zombie he hacked up or something?

The blood didn't come from them, I'm sorta not really pretty 100% not sure 😛 that the first time you see some sort of pot get broken with blood in, so its all symbolic not their actual blood.

Was it mentioned what made Thor dumb? Cause if not I'm gonna go with the letterman jacket... just to tie it into Buffy hehe.

I saw it Friday and enjoyed it well enough. I'd certainly watch it again, but it isn't the ground breaking cinematic experience it is selling itself as.

Personally, having seen the trailer I had a very clear idea in my mind about what this film would be, and it turned out exactly as I expected. That kind of annoyed me, because after the trailer was released all the talk we ever heard was DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GUYS YOU'LL SPOIL IT. So I was expecting a big WTF moment...and it never came. What I thought was going on, was going on. I'm not a fan of horror at all (I hide behind my hands for Scream...Scream people), I'm really a big baby about these kinds of films. But this wasn't scary in the least to me. This is a comedy, a satire. It's not a horror.

What I did enjoy was Fran Kranz, he was brilliant. But mostly I just geeked out at how wonderfully Josh Lyman Bradley Whitford's character was. I'd watch this a hundred times for that. I can't wait for the DVD to come out so I can get a gif of his little hip dance. 😀

I am of the belief that the trailer is an announcement of the release, that it is there to entice you to go and watch the film; I must have the wrong belief.
When I watched the trailer I was thinking that bit is just like 'that' film, that bit is 'such and such a film', and it kept going like that, I kept seeing parts of other films. Nigh on every scene has been done in one film or another. Strangely enough, several parts of the trailer looked like rewrites of the film "Wrong Turn" starring Eliza Dushku.
So, if the trailer is meant to get you to want to see the film, heck, I won't even bother getting the DVD.

To those of you who have seen the movie, does the trailer do the film justice, or does the trailer appear to be for another film?

I gotta confession to make....

I havent seen the trailer.

I avoided everything.

I've been saying "spoilers" in a rather angry tone to people long before River Song. hehe.

But from what I'm hearing, the trailers give it all away. But we see the initiative i mean the dharma initiative i mean... rossum corporation i mean.. you get the idea... 😉 was shown up front it wasn't a reveal, no twist, this isnt a shamalamadingdong movie... its deeper than that, more meta that his movies.

I think it'll get better and better with multiple viewings but I guess my time taken watching it again will tell. 🙂

I went to see this yesterday and i thought it was pretty good, but i think i was expecting a little more from it after all the great reviews it got.
Im a big horror fan and i really like horror movies with a twist which this has, but it wasnt twisty enough. Im never going to watch a trailer or read a review again before watching a movie haha, too many spoilers.

It does have great Joss Whedon humor and i felt it could have been linked to the whole Buffy season 4 initiative thing, almost 😉

Its defo worth a watch, Its not your typical horror but if you are a Joss Whedon fan you will like it 🙂
